How the heck did I miss this topic? I don't care if Keanu is in it; I will be interested in how the film is executed. I think the semi animation is a smart move; it does lend that dream like "reality" that is so uncertain in Dick's novels. I still think someone has to have the guts to do either UBIK, or my perswonal favorite Phillip Dick novel, Flow My Tears the Policeman Said.

Couldn't you talk to someone at Concord/Fantasy and see what they can do for you?

Sam played in Baltimore a month or so ago, in the Peabody Institute. He was a guest instructor or something for a week there, along with his longtime drummer and bass player. They held a concert with the Peabody Jazz Orchestra, playing tunes from his two big band RCA cds for the second session, and just the trio for the first. Two hours of non stop Rivers, and it was brilliant. No breathing problem here -- he was just amazing.

I traded the Joe Pass and Jimmy Smith Mosaic sets for an Ellington set. I am a happy man.

I had a couple of Classics, then sold them. Overall I am not happy with current vinyl production, no matter how much effort has been put into them. I look at Hoffman's forums and read them with a grain of salt. I think he's all right, but there has developed a culture of audiophiles who have become to obsessed with the "purity" of sound, rather than listening to the music. Noise factor is one. How dead quiet can one expect these to be? I can still find old records, still sealed, open them, clean them (does any one clean their records before playing? In distilled water?) and have the faintest of noise. I am not putting down anyone who is buying the stuff -- I think it is reasonable to purchase a Classics lp rather than hunting for a 1st pressing. But talking about 180 vs 200 g, where they are pressed, etc. Yikes! Plus, I fail to see how people can dismiss Chuck's insights -- who has been in the business for 30+ years.

Man it has been insane here in DC. Yeah, they'll probably get swept by the Heat, but we're talking about an organization that has defined futility for 20+ years, and to not only be in the playoffs, but to win a series, is awesome. I'll even go out on a limb and say that they'll even win one game against the Heat!

Snagged 40 lps for $20. Some spoken word -- how could I pass up mint copies of Just So Stories read by Boris Karloff? An Andre Previn on Contemporary, Leiber and Stoller band on Atlantic, first pressing London and RCA Living Stereo.... yadda yadda.

Gretch Drum Night at Birdland, on Roulette. Paid a dollar for it, a total fluke, but the vinyl is in terriffic shape. Epogee - w/ Warne Marsh and I forget the other sax player, on Warner Bros. A promo copy, in unuaually thick vinyl for the time - late 70's. Fantastic playing!

I just discovered flickr.com, and am trying to work with it to publicly show my art work. I live in DC, and really, most of the art venues strive to be like the New York art galleries -- just without the NYC caliber. As a result, it's hard for me to find places to show. So, here goes: Stefan's art Check it out! I still have to figure out orginizational stuff, and a way if I can to put my artists' statement up. I was previously working on Adobe Go Live to build my website, but this is much easier and quicker to show.

I had cancelled my cduniverse order after the "backorder" became too long for my liking. Did J&R Music World, for a couple of buck less, and while there was a backorder, I finally got word that the 8 cds I orderes are shipping! So they replenished -- I was worried that this was really limited.

I believe this was mentioned elsewhere, but on the Fantasy site they mention in June there will be a new batch of OJC reissues and K2 reissues. I can't find the page in the Fantasy site -- looks like Sonny Rollins will have a powerful new live album coming this September.

I picked it up when it came out. It didn't grab me the same way as that amazing 3 cd set of Nigerian funk music that Strut release a couple of years ago. Maybe it is because I was expecting something Fela like, or even something similar to the Ethiopiques series. I'll have to give it a closer listen......
