  1. I got the set when I came home, popped them in my Mac, and put them in my ipod, and listened to it as I was driving south to Williamsburg to visit my folks. I only listened to the first disc, cause I forgot to bunch them in one folder -- long story. Some of the music on the first disc appeared in the two fer 70's reissue (One for One?). Let me tell you, Malcolm Addey does a knock out job with remastering! But the music is great --- not every track is a "hit" -- I thought there were a couple of tunes wandered aimlesslessly, but for the killer material are the sessions with string quartet -- WOW!! Having peeked at the liner notes, written by Cuscuna, it is very interesting reading, as he give a brief synopsis of his own career in the record industry, how his relationship with Hill came about, and his early diggings into the vaults. Very nice! There is also a "complete" (always have to be cautious with this) discography of Andrew Hill's Blue Note sessions. So far, a big thumbs up!
  2. What I don't understand is given the stalemate at Blue Note, how come they have been reissued in England?
  3. They rang, but did they leave a box? You know Airbourne........
  4. I am dying to get the Starker 2 disc set that they reissued, but for $36............ I will wait. And RCA is cranking more SACD Living Stereos -- I just saw a new batch -- Berlioz's Requiem (or was it Bach's?) and others.
  5. A number of companies make tower speakers -- they haven't disappeared at all. Smaller speakers, or bookshelf speakers, sound really good as well, depending on the manufacturer. I have a pair of Mirage speakers that I have hooked up to my tube amp and they sound great. You have to consider the space that they are going into -- big tower speakers may not be the right solution if they are going into a small or even medium sized room. What places like Best Buy or Circuit City are selling now are surround sound systems for home movie stuff. They're not into the quality audio hi fi set up.
  6. heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh.................
  7. I recently bought the Byron Janis plays Rachmaninoff SACD on Mercury. Reading the notes, it states that while they did remaster for two channel and three channel SACD playback, the regular cd playback has the same audio that appeared on the original cd release. Basically, if you only have a standard cd player, you are playing a lot more money for the same sound. It's kind of a rip off, only if you don't have a SACD machine. Otherwise you are better off going to broinc.com and picking up the Mercurys there for a lot less....
  8. I like the Starker as well. But the Casals is the best -- look for the 2 cd Naxos remastering job, which surpasses all, even the prior EMI remasterings.
  9. Ca'Purange and Tangerine. Oh yeah!
  10. I haven't been to it, though i will before the summer comes along. I have had co owrkers who have seen it before it opened, and they said it will take a couple of days to digest everything. It's that extensive a renovation. And the layout of the permanent collection is all new -- so you might be wandering around a bit, trying to orient yourself. But you should have a good time.
  11. It isn't Jimmy Smith's greatest achievment, but I have always liked the Peter and the Wolf album. I just keep going back to it when I want to listen to his music and I find it enjoyable. Nothing more, nothing less. But for grease it is either Prayer Meeting or Back at the Chicken Shack.
  12. The Scorpio lps are a mixed bag. The Vanguard reissues sound great -- some latin jazz stuff sound shallow, but in a few cases it sounds like the mastering was from another lp.
  13. It is definitely the weak dollar. Most of my ebay sellings go straight to Europe or Japan.
  14. I listed items on Sunday and no problems. I do have to upload some images tonight though. Are the pics you are loading jpegs, or ?
  15. Their Taiyo Yudens are just as good (made by klone as well) -- offered on the same site.
  16. An amp, a cd player, or both?
  17. I've never had a problem with them. Good service.
  18. I'd be careful with a site like this. It could be a way for them to grab personal info, especially your credit card number. If it is too good to be true............
  19. Hold on, I thought they were also going to be reissued in the States by a US label? $30 is too much, even for these titles.

    1. You could go to Radio Shack and get one of those "Y" connectors that go from the mike output to the left right inputs of the Bose. 2. How big is your hard drive storage space? 40 is okay, but you will need to get more storage space. 3 & 4. Belt clip? Sleeve for the ipod? Check out ipodlounge for reviews of all those products.
  21. I work in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, as an "exhibits specialist," meaning I work on production and design of all the exhibitions in the museum. Been there for 10 years (!!!!), but I am now looking at what else I can do in the world......
  22. Yes, found it on Jazzmatazz.
  23. Preordered. That and the Art Pepper. I may be poor, but I will have these guys lifting my spirits......
  24. What be this? Various Artists - Detroit Jazz Before Motown, 1945-53 (Uptown) Aug 1 — rare and previously unissued recordings featuring Wardell Gray, Barry Harris, Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Burrell, Willie Anderson and others; compiled by Jim Gallert and Lars Bjorn, authors of Before Motown: A History of Jazz in Detroit, 1920-1960 (University of Michigan Press)
  25. Listened to this one last night. A complete knockout!
