  1. I'm sure they could keep raiding the Argo/Cadet vaults for a few more years (Complete Ahmad Jamal, anyone?), and perhaps try to target more Strata East titles. I would wish they could do Mainstream titles as well -- there is a wealth of material that should be reissued. But it would be harder to do more 80's and 90's stuff, if for the reason that the big name labels that supported jazz from the 20's up to the 70's, began dumping artists left and right. So you have labels like Steeplechase, Timeless, Red, Black Saint/Soul Note, Muse, Landmark, etc., who filled the void, but most of them still exist and probably have a desire to keep investing in their back catalogs. I'm wondering if Mosaic's future could lie in material like the Beirah/Leibmann Mosaic Select set -- unissued or live material.
  2. Up, I added more images. Having trouble putting paintings on, as I can't get nice enough images.
  3. Harold Land's "Damisi" was issued in 1991 on cd, a compilation(?) dating from 1971, 1972, 1974 sessions. Tracks: Step Right Up to the Bottom In the Dark, In the Corner, In the Dark Pakistan Chocolate Mess Damisi Up and Down
  4. Didn't he do an album called Scheherajazz?
  5. I remember reading about some similar issue in classical recordings. London "bluebacks" which are highly collectable, apparently sound worse than the later pressings (post 1970) because of the inferior quality of the proces that went into the pressings. They made a change (stampers, or I forget specifically which), and the reissue sound quality improved.
  6. Usually the quality of sound, and how many were printed of that pressing.
  7. Got both of them yesterday. Enjoying the first discs to both sets........ The Rowles is very nice!
  8. I wish his concert at the Library of Congress would be issued on cd. That was phenomenal!
  9. I have "Hot Buttered Soul" SACD and it SMOKES!!!!
  10. This is pretty damn dark:
  11. Odd, isn't it? It helps me paint, though. Chaos is fine, but I like the experimenting on Roots -- use of Brazilian tribal beats, carnival, etc. And the most ear splitting vocals..... From Anthrax, I actually like the Greater of Two Evils cd that came out last year. Not too many bands have a chance to revisit old tunes from years past and actually better them. This is one FINE metal cd. Sound is amazing as well! Oh yes, sometimes I wind down to Larry Young's Unity.
  12. I kid you not, but I listen to Sepultura (especially ROOTS), and Anthrax to settle down. Or charge up, whichever. Jazz nor classical can do it for me during stress. I need the noise. The neighbors don't, but they haven't complained.....yet!
  13. It's not like the kids are going out to the hardware store and buying the ingredients like the bomb that exploded in Oaklahoma City.
  14. No, not tinny at all.
  15. Always reboot after installing. And just as important, you need to run Disc Utility to Verify Permissions. Preventive maintenance.
  16. I can see it now -- laws created so that no one can play offensive or adult material on the ipods in public.... I'm sure 80 GB drives will be available eventually -- but c'mon, you really have the need to put the Blue Note library on one ipod?
  17. "Woman in the Window" should be reissued on dvd. I had a VHS copy some time ago, and I think I wore it our from playing it many times. Scarlet Street needs to have a definitive remastering job, as it is public domain and all the copies I have seen are washed out and too much contrast.
  18. Barbara Donald also plays on the Smiley Winters cd, on Arhoolie. Check it out, especially the first track, where Winters, who plays drums, basically goes insane.
  19. Thanks! Well then it is a shame it isn't complete.
  20. Well where did the more complete recordings come from? FM broadcasts or ?
  21. Got mine. Will pop in the cd player STAT.............
  22. Sepultura "Roots" deluxe edition -- I had to reorder it because it had been backordered for so long. Same with the Miles Davis deluxe edition.
  23. Both -- but really, the Itunes update should suffice.
  24. Happy birthday Marcus!
