  1. How about this one?
  2. Despite all the cynicism and scepticism that I have for this project I wouldn't mind playing this if someone gave it to me. How about - Another Blue Train More Sketches of Spain Wynton Marsalis plays Louis Armstrong Plays W. C. Handy A Love even more Supreme ? Or this -
  3. Spain got what they deserved for playing like that. With so many star players they should've easily overtaken a weaker Portugal. Why did they put in Morientes only in the last 10 minutes? Is he injured? Odds are Portugal won't progress out of the next round; they don't have an essential necessity, a reliable dispatcher, like Zidane, Nedved or Beckham. Figo is just not what he used to be. With the sloppy passing they have no chance in the quarter finals, no matter how good their defence is. Nevertheless, they persevered against a stronger Spanish side, so good for them!
  4. I'd do that, along with a bottle of something non-transparent. He'll probably appreciate the gesture. If you ever decide to go for it, I have a couple of questions about Newborn for him... Agree about RVG and piano and will take this a step further: There were easily 5 or 10 guys in the booth who were way over RVG's head, imo. DuNann is one of them. Do you have the original pressing? Yellow label or green? I got this one on cd only.
  5. Who's Keith Williams? Huh?
  6. Another guy I knew had a name Feliks Fuks [pronounced Fooks, or so he wished]. I wouldn't have believed the spelling if he hadn't showed me his driver licence.
  7. He must be Russian. Semen [or Semyon] is the Russian equivalent of Simon. I knew a Russian kid in college whose last name was Yurin. A perfectly normal Russian name, but I'd change it if I were him.
  8. I'll relay your message to the proctologist next door.
  9. Update - RAMONES Guitarist Is Not Dying [Hot Flashes - 04.06.16 21:44:44] Further to today's earlier report about RAMONES guitarist Johnny Ramone suffering from prostate cancer, Kurt Loder of MTV.com has filed the following: Johnny Ramone is not dying, according to his doctor. The Ramones guitarist, who has been living with prostate cancer for the past several years, was recently admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with what his physician, Dr. David Agus, told MTV News was a "complication from the cancer. But he got through it, and he's now on a new, experimental therapy. He's fighting courageously, and I think he will be going home in the near term." Johnny's admission to Cedars-Sinai set off a nationwide — maybe worldwide — media death watch. He was said to be in an intensive-care unit, and very near the end. Characteristically, the 55-year-old guitarist, a stubbornly private man, refused to issue a corrective press statement. His wife, Linda, however, was appalled by the funereal headlines, and authorized Dr. Agus to explain Johnny's condition. "He's not dying," Linda said on Wednesday afternoon (June 16). "He was okay for years, and he's fine now. He's in the hospital, but he's not in ICU. And I think he may be leaving by tomorrow."
  10. The key is to call them. If you use the web-site it gives you tickets at random. At first I wanted to get a seat through their on-line box office, but it would only give me the ones on the sides. Once I called the clerk found a seat dead center in the "Prime Parquet" section. If you're interested in going, you got to call now. Last year Ornette sold out Carnegie Hall. This time he's appearing with two basses [Greg Cohen is one] and Denardo. I must give due to my buddy Mandrill for pretty much making me buy the damn ticket today. I was going to wait till the last moment, as usually, but these are going like hot cakes. Hope to see you there.
  11. On the double bill with Abby Lincoln. I just ordered my ticket, dead center, baby. At $80 a pop they're pretty expensive, but we're talking Ornette here! Yippie.
  12. Anyone going tonight? Last of her 4 performances in New York. She's a rara avis in these parts.
  13. Kay is at the Hunter College on the Upper East Side. If nothing drastic happens, I'll be attending. Any other NY posters have interest in this?
  14. Absence of Mulgrew Miller is surprising.
  15. I envy all of you with emerald green envy. Looks like I won't see any of the matches [i don't have the souped-up 300 channel cable/satellite package]. Does anyone know if maybe the Spanish language channels broadcast any of the games in the US? ESPN can just go to hell.
  16. Mark, you may be disappointed, but either of these 2 LP sets is not what you would call a heirloom. I haven't checked ebay in a few weeks, but if my memory serves me right the Brooks rarely goes above a hundred dollars, perhaps $120 or so. It has been out of print for a while, but the price on this set has been surprisingly low for at least a couple of years. Miles usually sells in the $150 range, and rarely if ever goes above $200. The perpetual availability of its cd counterpart no doubt plays a role. I have a feeling it will appreciate in value with time, moreso than the Brooks. My advice is, if you are not strapped for cash, hold on to both of them for another couple of years. If you just want to unload them, it's your call.
  17. Mark, do an ebay completed items search. That should give you an idea of the value.
  18. Very simple. Buy a bunch of clear mylar lp jacket sleeves and store records outside the jackets.
  19. Luther Wright & The Wrongs - "Another Brick in the Wall" Dub Side of the Moon Enjoy with your morning coffee and a buttered roll.
  20. 1. With Johnny Sac under indictement Tony is bound to have aspirations of taking New York under his control. 2. Why didn't the feds chase after an overweight guy in oxford shoes, running through half a foot of snow?
  21. Since we're on the subject of Elmer Snowden, here's his calling card from my [rather slim] collection of jazz stuff. My guess it's circa 1930s. On the back there's a note in pencil, I am at the Powelton.
  22. Definitely a good closer. To be honest I was getting a little tired with marginalizing of the characters that used to occupy central positions in the previous years. But I'll be tuning back in next year for sure! I hope there'll be some real action!
  23. re:Wynton. I'm not a convert, but his recent playing at the Ornette Coleman tribute at Merkin Hall was very good. I think if he adhered more to the New Orleans music he'd be express himself to the fullest.
