  1. i'm not sold on this label, but gospeed to them! Interesting bit of information in the NYT article - Jazz accounted for just 1 percent of all record sales in the United States in 2015, according to Nielsen’s year-end report. But jazz buyers do purchase actual albums: Almost half of those jazz records were bought in physical form. I couldn't find the source for this quote in their link, but assuming it's true, only 1% of music sold in the US is jazz?! What percentage was it 10 years ago, anyone knows?
  2. Yes, it does. I compared it to the Music Matters 45 RPM edition, and while not as refined at the top end of the 45RPM, this one is definitely no slouch. Considering my price is a fraction of the 45rpm.. Boy, that 45RPM business is a pita. Getting up every 7 or 8 minutes to changes sides, I'm not sure I like it...
  3. Is that Nelson in the back...swingin'?
  4. ...or half-closed. Preferably with a pensive, probing expression, like"...I dig it SO much".
  5. Importcds.com has 14 of these titles at $21.95. http://www.importcds.com/advancedsearch?aar=&aal=&aso=&ala=audio+wave+music&agn=&afrom=&ato=&afmt_cd=true&afmt_mdvd=true&afmt_lp=true&afmt_sacd=true&afmt_dd=true&afmt_other=true&mod=AM&r=1 I just placed an order for Doin' Allright and LD+3. The latter is listed as back ordered, let's see if I'll get lucky..
  6. Wow, I've never seen these of decorated cameras. They sort of remind me of Art Deco cigarette cases. Unique. The b&w strped camera looks like a Packard radiator grill. Very 1930s. Thanks for showing!
  7. I know you're not a vinyl guy, and coming from RVGs, If you haven't heard another digital incarnation of this music, you have no idea how good it can sound. So far, I'm very impressed with these xrcds.
  8. They must be very low on the remaining stock then? Unless I'm mistaken, at this juncture, 19 titles have been released, 5 more are announced as 'preorder', and the following are oop- Lee Morgan - Tom Cat Sonny Clark - Cool Struttin' Tina Brooks - True Blue Horace Parlan - Speakin' My Piece Well, so far I've compared the XRCD of Bluesnik to my 2000 JRVG and mid-1970s BN vinyl reissue. JRVG is, characteristically, pretty much mono, with little of lower frequencies, and way much of high end. The 1970s blue label with white B vinyl has boomy bass, and sounds better than the JRVG. XRCD easily tops them both, in every aspect, except perhaps I wouldn't mind more low end, but that can be easily remedied by the equalizer on my preamp. Interestingly, the 1970s vinyl's stereo spread is the same as the XRCD, and it was pressed from an original RVG stamper, as is evidenced by the markings on the dead-wax. Tonight, the ultimate test - XRCD vs. Music Matters 45 rpm vinyl.
  9. SOLD Jackie McLean - BLUESNIK BST-84067, mid-1970s pressing, blue label with white B. VAN GELDER STEREO stamp on both sides of dead-wax, indicating that the record was pressed from an original BN pre-1966 stamper, retained by the new label owners, first the Liberty Records, then the United Artists. Record VG+, plays nice and clean. Cover VG+, small cut lower corner. Cleaned with a record cleaning machine, in new poly sleeve. $25 post paid.
  10. I don't need to, I want to. It's a fun way to spend time.
  11. Not to thread crap, but another one that astounded me in terms of keeping his chops in great shape is Tom Jones. Almost as powerful as 50 years ago. I have the record in question on the Jazz Hour label cd. Is this the same variant as what you have?
  12. 91 is a great run. He was writing on constitutional issues until the very recent months. RIP.
  13. Don't mind spending this snowy day and night doing the side-by-side comparisons of these.
  14. Thanks, RPF1990. Can you point me to the 28 sept 2016 releases? Does this duplicate the BN Masterworks roster? Also, how do you think these shm cds stack up against the 50 AP sacds? I missed this whole shm-cd series, when it originally came out....
  15. So are these still available in retail? cdjapan lists them all as 'sold out'.
  16. It says in plain English that they will ship only to US addresses...
  17. 11 BN xrcds on the USPS delivery truck now.
  18. How do you embed COUB videos here? Like this one - coub.com/view/f2e8a
  19. Well, I got my first two XRCDs - Back to the Tracks and Bluesnik. Also I was lucky to buy the oop disc from the series - True Blue, which sounded so phenomenally good, that I turned around and ordered the 11 titles they have on sale at the Elusive Disc. Pretty much all of them I already have on other sources, but these sound so great, that I won't mind AB'ing them with my existing cds, because these XRCDs could just be the definitive edition.
  20. These are messed up times. I don't like it. Too few people control what too many consume. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abZlWqVeLzg
  21. Yes, sounds like it's an awesome wine you had. Visconde de Borba Reserva 2011 , Southern Portugal. $18/ 750 ml. I play soccer with a lot of Portuguese guys, so I decided to get a better Portuguese wine. Yesterday night I got a bottle of this, and had some of it with a taco ground beef that I mixed with barley kasha. Was good. Finished it off today, without any food. On its own though, not a great drinking wine. Too intense. Would be nice with a rack of lamb.
  22. Good work, senator! Mine are scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
  23. I still don't know what he meant. I guess if the LGBT community puts a huge emphasis on overt sexual activity, then he was an important figure. Then again, I'm not gay, so I don't know what matters in that community.
  24. No idea. All i know if that all XRCDs I have sound remarkably good. However, the packaging of the US XRCDs from the late 1990s-early 2000s sucks ass. The Japanese ones are impeccable.
