  1. Hopefully they will have some better artwork for Soothsayer -- always hated that cover. I am all about the JOS sides!
  2. How about when the cigarettes are removed?
  3. SuperMegaVisaBill?
  4. I love Extract Now. That sucker is lean and mean.
  5. just for the heck of it, i did a search of all the best buy stores in more than ten states. not one of them has this listed as "available," so it will be interesting if you (and i'm sure there are others here) actually receive it. good luck. Even their big stores no longer seem to stock ANY jazz. I remember picking up the Dragon 4CD set of Miles in Europe 1960 at one in the neighborhood. That disc was flanked by a complete selection of the mini-LP Miles reissues of a few years back. Now nothing at all.
  6. I bought a DVD with three sketches for $0.50. That doesn't help, though.
  7. Re: sealed LPs -- in the shop where I used to work, the boss wouldn't shell out major $ for sealed LPs because of the potential fraud factor. Shrinkwrapping isn't so hard to duplicate. We had a machine in the back of the store! [it wasn't used for LPs, but for used CDs. They stopped using it when everyone wanted to check the condition or listen to them.]
  8. Those Lester Young sides are my favorite of his. Definitive Records has reissued them.
  9. Will listen to Stimmung in memory this weekend. Bummer.
  10. I don't know what kind of traffic the site provides from a strictly analytic POV, but I am willing to guess that you could make some easy bread by putting some Google AdSense adverts at the bottom of pages. Down below, they would be unobtrusive. They only need to be served, not clicked upon, to get credit. Slap in the code, and the money will start to come in. The page's traffic is similar to one that I deal with, and there is about $15/month worth of income. Not a lot, but it would cover 10% of server costs each month.
  11. Bummer. Perhaps we could start a Facebook 'group' -- they have discussion board features in the groups section. It is free.
  12. CD: Dare Devil For Adolph Sax From Valley to Valley Live at Bottle Fest Live in Beiruit Machine Gun Never Too Soon, Always Too Late Pica Pica The Dried Rat-Dog Total Music Meeting 1977 mp3: The Nearer the Bone, the Sweeter the Meat Ein Halber Hund Kann Nicht Pinkeln Fuck de Boere Live in Okiyama 1987 Nipples More Nipples Berlin Djungle Brotzmann/Sabu Duo Alarm Headfirst Into the Flames The Noise of Trouble LP: Still Quite Popular... The Ink is Gone The Atlanta Concert There is a willingness to play at a less-than-full throttle setting now than in, say, 1968. I have sold a few things in the past that didn't catch my ear, but I am almost always in awe and enjoyment when listening. Seen him twice, had brief conversations with him about his instruments and graphic designs. I have his book "The Inexplicable Flyswatter" featuring his early works, published a few years back. Here are three video clips I took from a concert last year:
  13. There is a distinct grassiness in one of my favorite Scotches, Glenkinchie. Never noticed in in wine, though...
  14. Happy Birthday, good sir!
  15. Sound like an interesting book- I'd also like to read Anthony Boudrain's book "Kitchen Confidential". Edit: I heard an interview w/Boudrain on NPR today. Really a fascinating person who's had quite a life. On a side note, Bourdain and Batali are good friends. Mario is one of the few chefs on Food Network, Bourdain does not make fun of and actually considers him among the best in the world. WD, thanks for that recommendation. I've never met Batali but have met his partner Joe Bastianich whose mother Lidia does not live far from me. Lidia is also true master in the kitchen. If I recall, there is a good bit of Joe in the book as well. It's a fun read, but not for the squeamish. The section of the author's apprenticeship in a butcher shop is quite frank!
  16. Sorry to say, I've seen enough of her as well. I'd rather watch big Mario Batali work his magic. If you dig Batali, you should read Bill Buford's book 'Heat.' Interesting window into his world. Batali is larger than life in more than his physical appearance!
  17. Two copies of that CCR box now snagged; one for me, one for gift.
  18. Congrats, and the name is delightful! We'll be doing the same in May...
  19. I see they have reissued King Crimson's The Great Deceiver boxed set as two double-disc sets. Wooo! I traded that for some unknown reason some time ago. Can't wait to have it back!
  20. I just started watching this on DVD from Netflix, and I am through one and one-half of the discs. This is the best writing! Tina Fey has a gift. She is what made the movie Mean Girls worth watching. I dunno, just something about her humor that gets me everytime.
  21. Damn! This was at the Mpls Sound Unseen festival already. Hope they release a DVD...
  22. Yeah, the ones that say jazz all sounds the same?
  23. For my house fix, I subscribe to four podcasts, all available in iTunes. Plug this address into your podcast subscription for two 30 minute shows that come out of France a couple of times each month: http://www.freedomrecord.info/podcast_rss/feed.xml . This is superb stuff, deep and soulful, and sure to get things moving. The second is one that I have plugged many times here because this DJ plays all kinds of things, from Japanese 'Club Jazz', house, broken beat, soul jazz and classic jazz. [He seamlessly mixed a cut from Roy Haynes' Cracklin' album into a set. Michael Rutten has been at it for some time, and this two-hour show is consistently rewarding. Soul Searching Radio Show. The other two are from The Netherlands. One is by DJ Tiesto titled Club Life and the other is by Dennis Ruyer titled Dance Department. Search in iTunes for them. You will get new episodes every couple of weeks.
  24. That is nuts -- I pulled this off of the shelf last night to spin without knowing that it was the anniversary. Wilbur Ware, man. Damn!
  25. I say that the Shorter has an added level of profundity / relevance due to the album's title.
