Granted, but he was part of a band for this record. [As on some other recordings, but it really feels like in on this live disc.] IMO.

Who says an artist has to perform in public? -
It is worth the price of admission based on the burning take on the live disc of "In a Silent Way." Awesome -- they should have played it longer...

At least 21 dead at Virginia Tech

Not only awful, but highly incorrect as others have already pointed out. Name another civilized country where you or I can purchase an assault weapon for our private use. Who needs an assault weapon to kill somebody? If the guy had his mind set on it as much as he obviously did, he would have found a way to carry out his plan no matter what kind of weapons he would have had to resort to. C'mon, BM. At one point he lined people up and shot them all down, execution style. You can't do that with a bolt action rifle. Nope, but you can do it with a shotgun or a pistol. You can do it with any of the above. A skilled operator can fire a lever-action quicker than a semi-auto. Same goes with a revolver. -
I would go se Rowe if you haven't seen him before, especially in that lineup. I think the discussion before would be illuminating, too.

and it is on emusic.com

Damn, and I was all excited about that list for a minute.

I am thinking about joining back up with yourmusic again. I quit when the price went to 6.99, but I haven't bought a single disc from my regular BMG membership since. It was nice-n-easy not to have to wait for a deal--I could order a single disc and be done with it.

I haven't even seen a boot of that...

I am all about that one. Have to wait until May 2nd. -
NPR distributes Fresh Air. I could go on for days... Just heard the new Bjork single featuring one Chris Corsano on drums, produced by Timbaland. Electric Likembes provided by Konono No. 1. Nice groove!

I can add nothing to the above, but that NPR does not distribute This American Life. That would be PRI, Public Radio International.

IIRC, you are a King Crimson fan? You might enjoy Tool, then.

I heard it several years ago, but was not yet in tune with Graves' thing. Can't remember much of it.
-
There is a boot floating around of an even better performance out there with this duo as well. I listened to both of these, as sax/drum duos are a weak spot for me. Zorn occasionally gets on my nerves, but not so much on these sides. I even enjoy Graves' vocal contributions. Makes me curious about those solo Graves discs on Tzadik...

Is that Vinnie Paul on the left? From Pantera?

I am a big fan of Callier's album "Live at Mother Blues 1964." Callier is on vocals and guitar as usual, but is accompanied by two acoustic bass players. He is in strong voice, working mostly traditional material on this set. Word is that he had two bass players at the time because he was under the influence of Coltrane. [not that trane used two bass players all that often, but like I say, that is the word.] He has had a bit of a resurgence in the last decade, moreso in the UK than here. Verve Forcast put out a date in 98 or so that had a real 70s Pharoah Sanders vibe to it. Perhaps because Pharoah played on it... There has been a lot of material released in between there that I am not familiar with.

My folks have black walnut trees on the farm. Last fall, we harvested 10 gallons of the suckers. I have been cracking them in the garage this winter. Love them raw, or candied on a salad. Nice-n-earthy. Big almond fan as well!

The first time I saw Brotzmann play, I arrived early to hear him warming up by playing "blessing in disguise from Sonny Rollins' East Broadway Rundown. It indicated to me that he certainly does have a deeper love for the history of the music than I had earlier thought. Putting him in the same group as Flaherty does them both a disservice. Two different backgrounds and approaches to improvisation. Equally enjoyable, maybe. I got The Beloved Music from eMusic and I was blown away. I must say I like the approach Corsano takes. Based on the comments here, I may have to d/l the Flaherty solo album next month! A Rock in the Snow just showed up in my mailbox today--can't wait to hear it. Funny thing is that it came from Important Records -- I won an eBay auction for a Brotzmann LP which was lost in the mail. The Flaherty/Corsano/Yeh disc was the replacement!

Gonna see em on the 23rd for the third time. I skipped the last studio LP, but thisone has gotten stong recs all around, so I might spring for it. Wife loves those records. When I saw them last the bari player /semi-leader came out and played Ayler's Ghosts for a few seconds solo. Then the whole band kicked in on one of the bulletproof toons.

The version of it on the second disc of this release is BURNING! Ornette is on fire. Too bad the basses are buried.

Will do - thanks for the tip! Same here!
