  1. Have the Nelson, Tapscott, Hines, and Young/Hawkins on the way along with iapetus, Pure Dynamite, Hal Galper Inner Journey and Johnny Coles Katumbo from the Mainstream releases on the way to me. All of it new music to these ears!
  2. Thanks Jim and John. I'm really digging the previous Mainstream batches, and looking forward to the next one. I'll add your recommendations to my want list. This is all new stuff to me. Although I'm a child of the 80s, I'm quite fond of the 70s 'sound' on these Mainstream releases.
  3. Thanks for posting these. It seems that Solid has ventured into the Flying Dutchman catalog. Any recommendations for someone who has nothing from them?
  4. Thanks for continuing to post these. I find them to be useful.
  5. Thanks for all the discussion on these Mainstream releases. I was yet to be born during this label's existence, but am enjoying the sessions I've ordered and listened to quite a bit. I have listened to the Curtis Fuller, Sonny Red, Charles McPherson, Maynard Ferguson, and one of the Blue Mitchell dates from the first batch, and am eager to continue to amass these. Might venture into adding a sessions from a lesser known (for me) vocalist to my next order--either Alice Clark or Gloria Coleman.
  6. LOL. I enjoy those sessions musically, however. I like the Venus straight-ahead "style," if you want to call it that. They do a great job recording pianists. I can heartily recommend all the Eric Alexander (often with Hazeltine or LeDonne), Harold Mabern, Cedar Walton, Bill Charlap, Eddie Higgins, Steve Kuhn, and David Hazeltine discs for sure. The Stanley Cowell, Richie Beirach, and Pharoah Sanders (subversively inside playing) discs are also gems. Some of their covers aren't bad, but I personally place the OBI strips to obscure some of the more risque covers.
  7. Thank you for all the recommendations in this thread. 8. Yes - sound is fantastic on these. But it has to have been a few years now since the last batch of these were released? I, too, have my doubts that scheduling issues are the only thing holding up completion of the series. It is also odd that that last batch included releases that were out of numerical order, given that the previous releases had been following an (arbitrary) numerical order.
  9. Bought this on iTunes. Sound is very good on my system. I'd be surprised if this was an audience recording. Cedar is in fine form, as is Steve Turre. I haven't heard of Manny Boyd before, and he didn't stand out one way or other. Cedar spends a fair amount of time on the electric piano. I like what he does on that, so it is not an issue to me. All in all, recommended for Cedar fans and anyone who likes advanced but inside hard bop.
  10. Thanks for the comments. Looks like I'll have to check out at least the Three Sounds and Sarah Vaughan (thanks king ubu for the recommendation) releases.
  11. Any impressions yet? I saw both this and a new Sarah Vaughan release from Resonance on iTunes and my curiosity is piqued, especially for this release. I've been greatly enjoying the recent spate of Three Sounds Blue Note releases from Japan (my first time hearing the material), and I'm guessing I will enjoy this. But any recommendations would be welcome.
  12. That is good to know about the organ. In the sound samples, that the organ, as you aptly said, is not greasy, is quite the understatement. Not sure I could handle five discs worth of that. BUT the briefness of the songs is not an issue to me and lends itself well to Clooney's conception of them, at least in the samples. I am definitely on the fence about this one. I wouldn't ordinarily consider it, but the Peggy Lee / June Christy Mosaic was such a welcome surprise to me on how much I enjoyed it, that I am considering the Clooney because her conception seems at least somewhat similar to June Christy's in spirit. The Lunceford will be a definite purchase.
  13. I have all the released Blue Note XRCDs (it seems unlikely they will finish the 25 CD run, unfortunately) and they are all my go-to editions.
  14. In for the CD + bonus video material. Love the intro video!
  15. Thanks Lon - that's definitely a disappointment, but a wallet-saver in the end, I guess. I might still order a few of the Blue Note and Prestige releases I missed the first time around to see what the packaging says.
  16. Has anyone purchased any of these yet? I am wondering whether they are the same remasters as the 2013-2014 SHM series, where applicable (the "HR Cutting," whatever that means). Those, at least on my system, sounded very good, and were worth the purchase.
  17. I'l echo and say that this disc one worth searching for. It led me to acquire quite a bit of Teagarden, but this remains by far my favorite.
  18. Thank you for the kind words. I have been a daily reader (but seldom participant) in this community since the BNBB days. I wish I didn't have minimize due to lack of physical space in our new home, but I am happy everything is going to appreciative homes. There will be much more to come in the coming months (at similar low prices to my Organissimo friends) as I move things out of storage.
  19. Posting a few CDs to see if these might find a good new home before we move. All CDs guaranteed to play perfectly. Assume all CDs have minor scuffing from storage in Univenture sleeves. Most of my CDs are currently stored in a Univenture sleeve + Bags Unlimited polyvinyl sleeve combination. I have a limited number of extra jewel cases I can also use if you are so inclined. See attached pictures: Shipping is $3 regardless of the size of the order. International shipping is probably out of the question after the recent rate hikes. Large orders (5+) will receive some sort of discount. I've tried to price fairly, but if anything seems out of line, and you are interested, let me know. I'm a reasonable man. 20. Those are four great songs! Sunflowers is my absolute favorite Marsalis tune. Songbook by Kenny Garrett is a VERY strong record and still gets consistent airplay here, and the Infinite, while indisputably derivative of late 60's Miles, is also an excellent record in its own right.
  21. Pulled the trigger on the second volume of the Leonard Bernstein Collection: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LL4U1TE 80 CDs for $85 shipped to the US. I had no Lenny until now, so I am probably among the target audience for this set. Volume 1 is a bit more expensive, but still cheaper than what I've seen it in the past. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HRJVNVW
  22. It always sucks when your audio gear cannot play sounds that you cannot hear anyway. I think Jay is talking about the well-documented issue that Sonos systems have with the size of your music library, not the wavelength of frequencies the speakers it can play. Apparently, Sonos systems are hardcoded to limit your music library to 65,000 songs. This arbitrary (and in my case, probably actually limiting) music library has always prevented me from even trying out Sonos systems. I'm just hoping that my old Squeezebox Touch never dies.
