  1. This week's Fringe. Couldn't quite make out what happened to the alternate Agent Broyles, was he killed ?
  2. After the rainstorm. Blade Runner minus the flying thingies.
  3. The Tony Blair-Christopher Hitchens debate. Brilliant stuff from Hitchens.
  4. Nah! The real Wallender lies on the printed page and in our brains. Haven't seen the Swedish series but have read consistently good things. Didn't care for the Branagh series based on a couple of episodes. The usual British thing these days of trying to polish off a 400 page novel in 90 minutes. The perpetual worry that we might switch channels if they don't keep things moving. I agree to a degree but it's a bit like saying that the real Inspector Morse is the one conjured up in our imagination as we turn the pages. I would suggest that John Thaw's characterization has, for the most part, replaced that imaginary character with a flesh and blood one, whose face many readers cannot erase from their minds eye as they read Dexter's books. Branagh's misjudged and overwrought portrayal never came close to approaching that kind of characterization but, in my opinion, Henricsson does. Besides having read all the books, I've seen almost all the Swedish series and strongly recommend them to you.
  5. Many happy returns, Elissa.
  6. Many happy returns, Bill.
  7. Wallander Season two, the original. First and second episodes. Krister Henriksson is the Wallander, forget Kenneth Branagh.
  8. Accused BBC Episode one Terrific piece of Noir. There are five more to come. Written by the guy who did 'Cracker', Jimmy McGovern.
  9. Mona Diddley Daddy Willie & Lillie
  10. I'm very sorry to hear this. My deepest sympathy and condolences to you.

  12. Chuck in the emperor and his parasite clan for good measure.
  13. Currently using Hello Kitty memo pads picked up free from the local bank, Mizuho Ginko. My grand daughter is a big Kitty fan.
  14. Da Vinci's Inquest Season 3 I love this highly addictive series, great stories and acting. Sad to hear that 'Rubicon' has been cancelled.
  15. Da Vinci's Inquest Season two.
  16. Thanks for taking the time to post that succinct synopsis. I had the impression it was about post apocalyptic biker gangs, ala Mad Max. Way off base !
  17. You're not missing much Lon. What's 'Sons Of Anarchy' like? I've never watched it.
  18. Detroit 187 and The Good Wife. Michael J Fox was great, His final lines were the ultimate party killer ! Also watched The Event which is becoming very silly indeed.
  19. Dixie Cups Dixie Hummingbirds Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks
  20. Finished watching the backlog of Fringe episodes and am now up to date. I like the impending war between the two realities theme but hope the conflict between the two Olivia's is resolved soon. It will be interesting to see how it works out. I think it's an excellent hard SF show, much more satisfactory than the lamentable excesses and plot cop outs of 'Lost'. The fact that even the most outlandish ideas are presented as scientific, technological concepts is appealing, especially after the pseudo mystic mumbo-jumbo of Lost.
  21. I did. It wasn't. Either that or my previous attempts were so much more of a disaster that this disaster was a shining success by comparison. In any event, I'll follow the above advice more closely next time. Thanks. Also try adding a small amount of diced ham and a few green peas, you don't need a lot but it adds extra flavour. If you have the chance to drop in at a Chinese grocery shop, get some Chinese chicken stock powder and and a bit, it makes a difference.
  22. Fried up some rice tonight using a red hot pan (no wok), with an egg mixed in, some chopped green onions and a splash of soya sauce (no oyster sauce on hand). I fried it separately from the other stuff I was throwing in with it, and I kept it moving as it fried. Worked beautifully! Thanks for the tip. I think my mistake earlier was frying it too slowly at too low a temperature. I was married to a Korean woman who was raised in Tokyo and the rice cooker was in pretty steady use back then. She would get care packages of rice and other 'necessities' from home pretty regularly. We visited Tokyo some years ago and the variety and quality of food 'experiences' there was amazing. I forgot something important that is obvious to me but probably not to you . The beaten egg is fried first, then put in the rice and chopped scallions, then the salt, pepper and soy last. If you put the beaten egg and rice in together it will be a disaster. One of the vital points I've picked up in the kitchen is that nearly all Chinese dishes call for the ingredients to be cooked separately then combined with the seasonings for a final 'stir fry'. For a luxury touch add some fried shrimp or, better still, crab meat.Put them in last.
  23. Looks interesting, thanks.
  24. I've always liked the show, but for me it really picked up and caused me more enjoyment towards the end of last season and with this new season; I love the "war between the worlds" storyline, and they way they've handled it. Hate that it has been pushed away for a spell by baseball! (I'm not a follower of sports). It was a mistake to stop watching this. I picked up again from episode five of the first season, and have watched through to the last episode. I am impressed and will continue catching up.
