The heat wave is now entering the 5th week. Every day it's H33-35C L26-27C. I've started using an umbrella after feeling rather wobbly a few times. The crickets are deafening in the trees outside.
The first episode of the new BBC Sherlock Holmes, ' A Study In Pink'. I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope the following episodes can maintain the high standard of the opener.
I entered -
"Verily I sayeth unto thee, thou shalt take thyself to Diane Keaton's Academy, there to dwelleth in perpetuity "
which comes out as David Foster Wallace.
Eenie, meenie miney moe equals Margaret Atwood.
Houston we have a problem.
Few things on tv startle me, but the clips of the toddler smoking with smiling parents looking on was repellent and hard to believe. Hopefully the poor kid can get some professional help but I very much doubt it as his parents seemed to be enjoying their celebrity freak show status.
The last real medical emergency, a broken wrist, was attended to after a wait of about ten minutes, about the time it took to fill out the forms, check my national health insurance details and get an appointment schedule card.
Yes, Quatermass was riveting stuff for adolescents (which I presume you were at the time). I used to make a nuisance of myself going to a neighbour's house (not yet having a television set in my own home) in 1953 at the age of 13 to see the original six episodes - and I'm still with science fiction today!
I was 12 in 1958. I'd tried to watch the previous Quatermass 2 but I think my dad decided it was too scary for me and sent me to bed ! Also remember that the Sheffield Star ran a front page recap of the last episode of 'The Pit' for ' our readers who were unable to watch'.
The original BBC version of Quatermass And The Pit, the scene where the engineer forgets his tool box and goes back into the object alone. Scared the life out of me.
Me too, the flashback at the funeral was brilliant, as was the second line with LaDonna. I'm already psyched for a second season even though it may not be for awhile.
Right, the funeral flashback sequence was unexpected and very well executed. I'm also looking forward to the 2nd season. Just a pity we won't be seeing John Goodman again.
Eh?? Are they taking about the same Tokyo that I live in ? Just for the record, lunch ranges from $6.00 to $11.00, a cinema ticket is $16,$14 if bought beforehand from the local convenience store and a kilo of best quality rice costs $5.00 or so.
A can of beer from the grocer 0.80 cents, a dozen eggs $2.20 and a basic washing machine about $450 although you can get them for half that if you look around.
Vegetable masala south Indian style, made from bok choy, red peppers and new potatoes. Cooked in onion, ginger garlic paste, tomatoes with fennel, fenugreek and other spices. Ate with rice, Greek yoghurt and Indian hot pickles.
