  1. Awful news, even in a world of constant awfulness. A great and unrecoverable cultural loss.
  2. Oliver Nelson - Skull Session
  3. Finished the Beeb drama in one sitting. Powerful display of thespian talent.
  4. Oliver Nelson - Stolen Moments ( East West ) 1975
  5. Despite the numerous rave reviews, I gave up on this after 170 pages. I could perhaps have followed the 'plot' if I'd taken copious notes and treated it like a very difficult and perplexing examination. I don't have the time or will to do that. Indeed. Currently there are no second hand book shops for English language books in the whole of this giant megalopolis. I kid you not.
  6. Great, I've never heard this before.
  7. Inversion - Behnam Behzadi (2016) An interesting family drama which is also a sharp statement about the role of women in Iran. Inversion refers to a cloud of pollution ( male entitlement) hanging over the city throughout the film.
  8. Engrossing political thriller.
  9. Discs 1-4 Both discs
  10. Breaking Bad Currently working through the entire series for the third time. Up to season three, Jesse is discharged and Hank meets the twins.
  11. Your post caught my attention. I'd assumed this was just another book about The Beatles and was prepared to leave it at that. However, on further investigation, and especially after listening to the lengthy Youtube interview with the author, I'm now eager to read the book, all be it the regular length version. Here's the link if you're interested.
  12. I saw Shoplifters too, but Burning was much better imo. Korea is making more films of interest to me than Japan these days. They have a boldness and willingness to push things that is quite different from here, although the geographical difference is small, the outlook is hugely different. I've see all the films you mention . The Wailing really blew me away, as did the zombie epic Train To Busan. That really impressed me with how a talented and creative team could take something as worn out as a zombie theme and turn it into something Hitchcock would have approved of.
  13. Many happy returns, Jeff.
  14. Discs 6 & 1 Discs 1,2 & 3
