Don Cherry and Other People Who Have Played with Everyone
Rooster_Ties replied to ep1str0phy's topic in Artists
Herbie and Wayne come to mind. Inside, outside, in between, you name it (and lots of all it) -- plus quite a number of pop contexts (both R&B and "jazz-lite" oriented stuff (like Steely Dan), and even more dance or "adult contemporary" stuff, i.e. with Duran Duran (Herbie), and Don Hendley (Wayne)), studio work on pop 60's pop dates (Herbie at least, probably not Wayne), and even advertising (at least some by Herbie that's undocumented, or at least way under-documented). Can't begin to name all the people they've worked with, but if I'm understanding the comparison with specifically with Cherry, then I think both Herbie and Wayne kinda come pretty close. -

Maybe. Could be interesting. (Not to all, but to some.) -
Damn, got hit by a nasty virus on the home PC. When you bring up the computer (even in safe mode), it won't let you run any executable that is a virus checker (and it appears to know the names of most of them). Renaming your virus checker(s) before you run them is supposed to be part of the solution, but I haven't been able to get that to work. Damn thing makes it look like you don't have access to files on your own hard drive (though you can run other .exe files just fine, like Adobe and MS Word). Makes your CD-ROM drive invisible, and/or non-functional. Scrambles your browser. NASTY, NASTY creature. I was running Malwarebytes, Avast, and SUPERAntiSpyware -- all three of them -- and it still got me. Keeps trying to run some phantom (rogue) anti-virus software, which I'm just sure is really malicious (something I've never installed, or heard of). Keeps trying to install, over and over, claims it's finding some other virus, tries to get you to press "OK" buttons to kill the other (phantom) virus, when I’m just sure doing so will as likely wipe my hard-drive as anything -- brings up windows with limited options (neither one sounding good), with no red 'x' to close the window, so you're forced to take one of their bad options (time to reboot). The PC is going into a specialist just as soon as I can find my original Win XP discs to boot from (maybe tomorrow, probably this week). UGLY, UGLY, UGLY. I’ve recovered from other viruses before (viri?), but this son of a bitch is the worst one yet, by far. Limited to e-mail and browsing from work for the moment (yeah, I ran by work this late, just to check e-mail). Will probably be off-line a lot more often than not for (hopefully only) a little while, knock on wood. It's called chin09.win -- avoid it like the plague.

How about Grant Green's, "Am I Blue" from 1963. Grant Green (ldr), Joe Henderson (ts), Johnny Coles (t), Grant Green (g), John Patton (org), Ben Dixon (d), Duke Pearson (arr) I've never made it past the first two cuts -- knocks me out cold, every time.
-
Depends on the artist. I've got 80% of Joe Henderson's official releases. But barely 15% of Coltrane's. (But I *do* have 80% of Ornette's) Go figure. It all depends on who speaks to me.

Doing my best to keep this on the front page, if anybody knows anything about this phantom Joe release (above), thanks!! See ??? two posts above this one.

Any board members were at the orignal Woodstock?
Rooster_Ties replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Now there's a motion worth seconding! Ditto here!! Always dug Hendrix at Monterey '76 a BUNCH more than Woodstock. (For one, The Experience in ’67 were a MUCH tighter band than Gypsy Sun and Rainbows in ‘69 -- though both have their moments.) Of course, with Monterey, there's always the commemorative action figure... -

Organ dates with SIDEMEN who rarely did Organ dates

Here's some 45-second clips of the previously mentioned organ date with Joe Henderon (from 1987). Click on the Japanese text/link, just to the right of each song title. >> CLICK << -
ANYTHING jazz related, in a NON-JAZZ context...
Rooster_Ties replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
And another Joe Henderson thing that I just stumbled on quite by accident. Yeah, it's jazz, but jazz by big vocal/vocalese groups is like some wholly 'nother kinda of thing -- both jazz and 'not-jazz' at the same time (at least in my mind). In any case, THIS seemed like the thread to post this in... >> << -

Any opinions of this one?? >> << -
I was lookin' for someplace to post these around here, and THIS thread is probably as good a place as any... You must see these -- this is NOT optional.

You know, I could totally see some kids (which is anybody under 30 at this point), discovering this -- kinda getting off on it (somewhat) -- and then checking out the original. Stranger things have happened. Hell, worst case, it might even be better than a few of the less inspired Miles tributes I've heard over the years.

??? OK, so what's up with this (supposed, below) release of MORE material from Joe from this 1966 Monterey date, plus some from 1994. This disc is listed in quite a few on-line stores, but none of them have it in stock, and most have it "discontinued" or some similar designation. I'd about kill for more live Joe from '66. >> Amazon<< ...or... >> Tower<< (now Caiman, not really Tower), or even >>Half.com<< There are others too (just search on "B0011Z692G" or "888072303867" - some of which also refer to some Grover Washington release with the same (or nearly the same) title). Of those that have to do with Joe, several also have this as a product description (I pulled this one from half.com)... Did this ever really come out?? Is it just delayed?? Or did it get cancelled?? If so, did at least some promo's get out?? I'd buy this in a heartbeat, but if it ain't available, does it 'circulate'?? I've bought the 'various artists' release from the 90's (a legit copy, even) just for that one cut ("Isotope"), and I want more!! Can anybody even come up with a track-listing?? ???
-
Well, I didn't care that much for it... ...so, do I get to keep my AEC box??

Good times. (Re-read this thread from the very beginning. Stumbled on it, looking for something else.)
