  1. The Braxton is too 'spensive to buy right now ($136, youch!). There's a good chance I'll get it eventually, though. Not planning to miss the Moncur (see first post -- that's the whole reason for me ordering now). I've already got all of it on CD (except for that one "Hipnosis" date), but it'd be nice to have it all in one set. (Yeah, I know, the "Bout Soul" isn't complete on the Select.)
  2. Looking to get two or three things from Mosaic between now and Christmas (maybe even by the end of THIS week). What should I get??? Also, I am planning to get the Denny Zeitlin 'Select' -- and they say it'll be available in February. Somebody remind me -- does Mosaic do pre-orders?? If I called them now (or later this week) with an order for two or three things now, and also wanted to pre-order the Zeitlin (NOW), could they do that (and charge my card (now) for the whole deal), but then have them NOT send anything to me until the Zeitlin becomes available?? The push here is that I really want to get a Moncur 'Select' before they're gone for good (I think they'll only be available for another month or so, give or take). But I also want the Zeitlin, and I kinda don't want to wait another year or two to get it (probably it'd take that long before I'd want to put in another order). You see, my usual Mosaic habit is to wait and put it a BIG order about once every two or three years, so I can combine shipping costs (and save some $$). I'm really cheap that way, what can I say.
  3. Not perfect, but a darn good price for a date that's kinda hard to find these days... half.com Edit: Not what you were looking for, but FWIW, I just found an extra copy of Patton's "Accent on the Blues" in my pile of duplicates. (The other half of the 'bonus' date from "Memphis to New York Spirit" is on "Accent on the Blues".)
  4. С днем рождения!!!
  5. Link: It was a dead heat. General Motors sold 9.37 million vehicles worldwide in 2007 and LOST $38.7 billion. Toyota sold 9.37 million vehicles in 2007 and MADE $17.1 billion.
  6. In total agreement here. That first session on Vertigo is definitely a keeper!! Hey, what do people think of Horace Silver's "You Gotta Take A Little Love"?? I wasn't even aware it was out on CD. I like Horace, but he's not in my top tier of leaders. I do like 27th Man -- should I spring for this one too?? On a side note, though, isn't this about the worst BN cover ever??
  7. And she still is... Loretta Lynn -- accepting a Grammy (and keeping Jack White in line)
  8. Just a quick mention that before getting Wilkerson's BN recordings (CD-R or not), check out this non-BN Wilkerson date -- which I find to be far superior.... The Texas Twister (And Newbury Comics appears to have one for only $5, plus S&H.)
  9. If I absolutely had to limit it to three (no surprises here)... Andrew Hill (big box) Larry Young Andrew Hill Select (Blue Note) Honorable Mention... Sam Rivers Jackie McLean Can't not mention these too... Gerald Wilson Carmell Jones Charles Tolliver John Patton Dizzy Reece
  10. Vernon Reid - Sidewinder
  11. Am I really the only person here who's heard Gary Thomas on flute?? (Or, I guess, the only one who has, and taken notice of it.) Check my post near the beginning of this thread.
  12. No idea, but FWIW -- it is a pretty nice date.
  13. All four Brooks albums are essential. Yup, sure are.
  14. For me, THE killer track on 27th Man is the title track (all nearly 10 minutes of it). Reminds me of Stanley Cowell more than just a bit.

    Nimbus records

These three are all VERY good. The Billie Harris might be the deepest in terms of the quality of the soloist, but don't overlook the other two. My favorite Nimbus is probably that Creative Arts Ensemble disc , which has some really spectacular group interplay, and has one hell of a good vibe to it (and the female vocalist reminds me a lot of June Tyson from Sun Ra's Arkestra). One of the best discs I've picked up over the last few years (and one I would replace rather damn quickly if ever I lost it).
  16. This project is fast becoming a reality. Probably gonna go with Stairway, and Dazed & Confused, but still need one more. Open to more suggestions.
  17. Took 5 minutes for the site to come up Sunday, but I did get my address in (at least I think I did). Not even the biggest fan of Dr. Pepper (nor G'n'R) -- but free, is FREE!!! (The site was up for free coupons on Sunday ONLY.)
  18. Interesting to see Moby's name in there. I'm certainly no particular fan of G'n'R (have never owned even one of their CD's), but I'm found them to occasionally be interesting on the radio from time to time, and have been known to listen to some live clips of them on Youtube and such, now and then.
  19. Me too, if anybody can send me a copy (or a link to where we can all hear it). ( I'm at: buck_crim (at) msn (dot) com. )
  20. Saw this quote buried in an article about Honda... Full article (on two pages, the 2nd one you have to click to get to).
  21. Thanks for the info. This kind of enthusiast report makes me buy a record !! I don't know this one. Just ordered it @mazon.fr Sure thing! And let us know what you think of it too.
  22. Report back on the packaging as well, if you don't mind. I'd be curious about the quality and contents of that on these 'CDR' type reissues.
  23. Mothership is da bomb, totally!! Some of the most amazing and eye-opening Lee Morgan ever. Must have, must own, must hear material -- if ever there was. And the 27th Man is pretty darn good too. Just gave it a spin a few weeks ago myself, and found myself liking it a LOT more than I had remembered. A couple of the cuts with vibes (sans horns) were really quite progressive -- a lot more so than I've ever typically heard from Horace. Made me wish there was a whole album of that 'vibes' group all by itself -- though the cuts with horns were good too.
