organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN
Rooster_Ties replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Sure thing. I'll PM you my snail-address shortly. -- Tom Edit: If you have any 'live' material you could include too (even just a couple tracks), that would maybe also help. (Couldn't hurt!!) -
organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN
Rooster_Ties replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Spontoonious, Free For All, and I --- we all know the guy who does the booking at this club. Great guy (and a good tenor player!), and we all know him pretty well. We'd be glad to put in a good word, or give him a burn of your CD (and make sure he listens to it!), whatever you need!! -
Man, that would suck. Anybody else have this problem too?? (Been a while since I've ordered from CD Universe.)

Maker of Twinkies Delays Filing Annual Report
Rooster_Ties replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
According to the Yellow Pages at Yahoo.com, the headquarters of Interstate Bakeries Corp. is barely one mile from where I live (as the crow flies). -
Anybody else here have the BN watch?
Rooster_Ties replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've got one. Wore it as my 'daily watch' for about three or four years. Then a friend gave me his 'much-more-expensive' BN watch (I think those things sold for like $60 ), cuz he decided he never wears watches (never!!), so he'd rather somebody else had it -- somebody that would actually get some use out of it. I couldn't say 'no', so I've got both now. Don't wear either one all the time, but I do break them out for particular occasions. -
Having just ordered "The Max Roach Trio, Featuring The Legendary Hasaan" -- I thought it might be fun to start a thread about sessions where the real leader of the date (however you want to define the term "leader"), wasn't the name that got on the session when it was released. (In the case of the Roach album, every tune was by Hasaan, so by any definition, Hasaan was the real leader on this date.) And even dates that only fit this definition about 75% of the way, count for the purposes of this thread. So, for instance, Bobby Hutcherson's "Dialog" is arguably really an Andrew Hill album (or nearly so) --- and I've occasionally even filed it in with the rest of Hill's BN output. What are some of your favorites?? And in each case (or at least where it's interesting to discuss), why didn't the real leader's name get on the spine of the record jacket?? (Yes, I know there are probably hundreds of such albums. Still probably a good topic for a thread, no??)

Max Roach Trio, Featuring The Legendary Hasaan
Rooster_Ties replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Re-issues
Thanks for the help, guys!!! Was just about to pull the trigger on the older "complete" CD issue (the one from 1992), and wanted to be sure I was getting the whole session. (Or more importantly, to be sure that the session was incomplete on the "Collectables" version). So, from half.com, I just now picked up Featuring The Legendary Hasaan Max Roach (CD, 1992) for only $5.00 plus $2.50 postage, and I also got Now's The Time Richard Davis (CD, 1989) from the same seller, for only $2.50 more (plus an extra $1.50 postage). Total for both discs, including postage: $11.48 Such a deal!!!!!! B-) -
There appear to be two CD issues of this title (or at least two, that I'm aware of). The more recent one is on Collectables, from 1999... But as best I can tell, the Collectables leaves a track off the "Trio, Featuring The Legendary Hasaan" album, in order to fit two albums on one CD. Can anyone confirm if the Collectables version is missing a track?? Then it appears that there was an earlier CD issue too, from 1992... Which I'm assuming has all the tracks from the session, although I haven't been able to confirm this one way or another. What's the best way to get this session on CD?? Both in terms of completeness, and (to a lesser extent), in terms of sound-quality?? Thanks a bunch!! -- Rooster

Or maybe this is the Organissimo hamster, which would explain a lot. -

New board error?? Board looks down...
Rooster_Ties replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Forums Discussion
On the AAJ thread, couw says you can't start new threads. Might be the case now, but I was able to start this thread earlier this morning (a little over an hour ago). I'll try to start another thread, and see if that works... -- Tom -
Would have voted for Dizzy Reece, given the chance. Yeah, I know there's not a lot of recordings out there with Reece on congas -- but what there is, really works for me.

Hey all, When I tried to get into the board this morning, I got the following error... And the same error comes up when you try to get into the front-page of the forums. The "Today's active topics" button does work, but the page that lists all of the forums is dead. Just thought I'd mention it, in case the powers that be didn't happen to run across this error through the normal course of their surfing on the board. -- Tom

Crap, the board won't let me upload the other images. Oh well, I'll have to e-mail them to couw. Here's what the back cover says... If anybody else owns this album (the actual LP), could you verify the spelling of everything, and the timings of the tunes?? (Or at least the times printed on the LP.) The source image I'm typing from is a bit fuzzy. Also, if anybody owns this album, can you provide the catalog number?? EDIT: Managed to change the format of the picture from a .bmp to a .gif -- so here it is after all.

Howdy everyone. I'm bringing up this thread again, cuz I layed a burn of Tyrone's 2nd LP as a leader, on couw -- and he wanted me to provide some session info for the date for him. Since I'm going to have to upload a couple images from the LP (copped from an e-bay auction), I figured the easiest way to do that was through a thread. (Yeah, I could have e-mailed them to him -- but where's the fun in that?) First, here's the best quality version of the cover I've ever seen on-line. I'm gonna include it as an upload, just so we have some place to keep it (even after the seller gets a buyer)... Tyrone Washington - "Roots" (Perception) And here's another image of the cover, though I suspect it's maybe not as useful (for CD-cover making purposes), despite the fact that it's a bit bigger. (Your call, couw. Maybe this bigger one is better, even with the glare. You're the Photoshop wizard. I know you can stretch the bigger one back into a square image, but maybe the glare isn't worth the effort. Again, your call, couw.) And here's the uploaded image...

Looking for some rare grooooooves!!!
Rooster_Ties replied to sheldonm's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I might have an extra one of these. (That, or else I gave it to Spontoonious -- can't remember which.) I'll look and/or check with him, and get back to you about it next week. Found my copy of "I Don't Care Who Knows It', and sent you a PM about it. Would be happy to trade it to you, or sell it outright. -
Looking for: Marcus Belgrave "Gemini II"
Rooster_Ties replied to rockefeller center's topic in Offering and Looking For...
By the way, I might mention that this new CD issue is a transfer from vinyl. (Sounds perfectly decent to my ears.) -
