  1. Well, at first I wasn't even gonna bother. But then when I discovered that I couldn't open it, I simply had to figure out how to!! PS: I probably will save it, and use to send some discs to somebody some time. It looks like it would hold about 3 or maybe 4 CDR's (without jewelboxes, of course).
  2. Waitin' for a bargain price, on a 'used' one, something more in the $70-$80 range. Just not excited enough about this material (most of which I've heard before), to fork over the $$$ now. (I'll get one some day, sure, but I'm in no rush on this one.) But I got the "Jack Johnson" set the very day it came out!! Of course that was with a "40%-off" coupon from Borders.
  3. Maybe Dmitry or The Red Menace™ can explain this one... Link: МС УUЯI - "IИ DД СДБ!" And, do I get a gold star for figuring out how to get the Cyrilic characters into the link?? I think the answer is ДА!!!
  4. Did you get one too, Scott?? Can't tell what the hell it's made out of. It looks like cardboard, but it's as heavy and solid as wood. I could maybe see making this stuff for things that were actually being sold. But for promotional products??? Stuff that's designed to be thrown away???????? Who's bright idea was THAT!!!!!! Yeah, that's right, I'm...
  5. What about The Dakota in St. Paul?? I have some musician friends in the twin-cities who could maybe put in a good word, or who might have some advice. Would be a great venue for you guys, me thinks. I've only been there once or twice (and that was years ago), but I remember it being a seriously hip place. Edit: Where's Vibes?? Isn't that his neck of the woods???
  6. Got two AOL CD's yesterday (both of them in some sort of damn "masonite/cardboard-on-steroids"-type box (very thick, very heavy), that took me like two minutes to figure out how to open), and then another one today -- this time in a damn "DVD-like" box. And I've gotten them before in tin-cans (at least three or four last time, like 6 or 8 months ago, if I remember right). How can I stop this shit???? I can't imagine anybody buying AOL when they send you dozens of CD's in the mail, in ever more environmentally-fucked-up packaging. Burn in hell, AOL!!! ( Whew, that felt good. ) Seriously, how can I stop getting this stuff?? How many trees and petroleum products were used to create the millions of CD's and packaging that AOL uses whenever they upgrade or decide to do some mega-promotion?? Can't pick up a free weekly newspaper any more without an AOL CD falling out either. What the fuck?????
  7. And actually, the same seller has a few other non-BN LP's listed in the same catagory... click here too or look at what the user "pop-a-licious" has for sale. -- Rooster
  8. Don't know anything about the seller, but it appears s/he listed a number of BN LP's, many (most?) with NY labels --- but they're under the catagory chain: "Home > All Categories > Collectibles > Advertising > Other Advertising" ...which means they aren't likely to get as many on them, so perhaps the bidding won't go up very high?? Who knows??? click here Or do a search on "Blue Note" in the main 'title' (never mind 'descriptions'), in the catagory "Collectibles".
  9. Don't you have any graphic-design people at that paper of yours?? Come on, Joe. Have one of 'em whip-out a floor-plan for us - chop, chop!!!
  10. Just bumpin' this up, in case anybody missed it. Amounts to a full 25% discount, if you buy four discs that all are priced exactly the same. Time to catch up on some of the recent RVG's, me thinks!!
  11. Sure thing. I'll PM you my snail-address shortly. -- Tom Edit: If you have any 'live' material you could include too (even just a couple tracks), that would maybe also help. (Couldn't hurt!!)
  12. Spontoonious, Free For All, and I --- we all know the guy who does the booking at this club. Great guy (and a good tenor player!), and we all know him pretty well. We'd be glad to put in a good word, or give him a burn of your CD (and make sure he listens to it!), whatever you need!!
  13. Man, that would suck. Anybody else have this problem too?? (Been a while since I've ordered from CD Universe.)
  14. Now through September 26, buy any 3 CDs and get the 4th free!* *Least expensive item is free. Multiple-disc CD sets count as one item. Offer not valid online. Some titles may not be available at Borders Express stores. See your local Borders Express for details.
  15. According to the Yellow Pages at Yahoo.com, the headquarters of Interstate Bakeries Corp. is barely one mile from where I live (as the crow flies).
  16. I've got one. Wore it as my 'daily watch' for about three or four years. Then a friend gave me his 'much-more-expensive' BN watch (I think those things sold for like $60 ), cuz he decided he never wears watches (never!!), so he'd rather somebody else had it -- somebody that would actually get some use out of it. I couldn't say 'no', so I've got both now. Don't wear either one all the time, but I do break them out for particular occasions.
  17. Having just ordered "The Max Roach Trio, Featuring The Legendary Hasaan" -- I thought it might be fun to start a thread about sessions where the real leader of the date (however you want to define the term "leader"), wasn't the name that got on the session when it was released. (In the case of the Roach album, every tune was by Hasaan, so by any definition, Hasaan was the real leader on this date.) And even dates that only fit this definition about 75% of the way, count for the purposes of this thread. So, for instance, Bobby Hutcherson's "Dialog" is arguably really an Andrew Hill album (or nearly so) --- and I've occasionally even filed it in with the rest of Hill's BN output. What are some of your favorites?? And in each case (or at least where it's interesting to discuss), why didn't the real leader's name get on the spine of the record jacket?? (Yes, I know there are probably hundreds of such albums. Still probably a good topic for a thread, no??)
  18. Never heard it, but I'm sure looking forward to!!
  19. Thanks for the help, guys!!! Was just about to pull the trigger on the older "complete" CD issue (the one from 1992), and wanted to be sure I was getting the whole session. (Or more importantly, to be sure that the session was incomplete on the "Collectables" version). So, from half.com, I just now picked up Featuring The Legendary Hasaan Max Roach (CD, 1992) for only $5.00 plus $2.50 postage, and I also got Now's The Time Richard Davis (CD, 1989) from the same seller, for only $2.50 more (plus an extra $1.50 postage). Total for both discs, including postage: $11.48 Such a deal!!!!!! B-)
  20. There appear to be two CD issues of this title (or at least two, that I'm aware of). The more recent one is on Collectables, from 1999... But as best I can tell, the Collectables leaves a track off the "Trio, Featuring The Legendary Hasaan" album, in order to fit two albums on one CD. Can anyone confirm if the Collectables version is missing a track?? Then it appears that there was an earlier CD issue too, from 1992... Which I'm assuming has all the tracks from the session, although I haven't been able to confirm this one way or another. What's the best way to get this session on CD?? Both in terms of completeness, and (to a lesser extent), in terms of sound-quality?? Thanks a bunch!! -- Rooster
  21. Or maybe this is the Organissimo hamster, which would explain a lot.
  22. Might just be having a "sick" day...
  23. 'nother ... Hell, make that .
