Just noticed that Dusty Groove has a used copy of this CD now at least, for just $6.99 — a wonderful near total remake of Don Cherry’s “Complete Communion” with Varner’s French horn(!) replacing Cherry’s pocket trumpet — with other Don Cherry tunes. Same instrumentation basically otherwise, with an added guitar. Really a fine date, and not one I’ve seen used too often… https://www.dustygroove.com/item/662939 Can anyone else vouch for this date? You can say that again. I just got the Konitz/Marsh/Evans discs in the mail yesterday — and although I’ve only been through disc #1 — I think Evans was practically laying out half the time, maybe more even. Looking forward to spending more time with it this week.

I’ve got a few CD’s I had inquiries about thru PM’s, which I’m gonna have people pay via donation to the board. May total close to $100, but I should probably list some more in the “offering” forum, and do the same — i.e. don’t pay me, pay Jim. Might even offer a couple Mosaics the same way, with me covering the postage too.

That was in pretty poor taste.

Arriving later today, which is good since my Tristano Mosaic won’t be here for another 7-10 days I’m guessing.

We are in the process of shipping the new release, Lennie Tristano as well as other sets. Our outside warehouse is working thru them but there are issues that have slowed the process, labor shortage and Covid. They expect to get up to date by end of next week. Apologies for the delay. The detailed Tristano discography seems to suggest perhaps about an hour of ‘wire’ sources, not all on the same CD. I didn’t do the exact math, but that’s my recollection when I last took a gander at specifically which parts of the set came from wire recordings (a couple weeks ago). PS: My copy hasn’t shipped yet, so I can’t comment on the SQ directly.

The new Tristano Mosaic — at 6 CD’s and something approaching 6 hours of all previously unreleased material — would surely have to qualify. I know it’s only just shipping this week, but a few board members have gotten theirs, so it’s still a 2021 release technically. (Suggested in the spirit of it not getting lost in the shuffle.) Unless it turns out to “ought to be” at the very top of the list next year too, once it’s been properly assessed.

Check the weather forecast carefully. I just looked, and I’m seeing a 30° high temperature differential between Saturday (81° high), and Sunday (only 51° high). The Hill Country also has a lot to offer, though it’s not immediately in Austin. The LBJ Presidential Library and LBJ’s ranch are both quite interesting — and you couldn’t ask for a more gripping time-period anytime in the last 75 years to learn more about.
