We’ll goodness, gracious — lookee, lookee! And “Isotope” starts at 11:28 (that isn’t the song length). Joe Henderson & Kenny Drew trio, Molde Jazz Festival, Norway, August 1968 (colorized) Titles 1. Chelsea bridge 00:00 2. Isotope 11:28 Joe Henderson (tenor sax), Kenny Drew (piano), Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (bass), Albert "Tootie" Heath (drums).

I “like” them both quite a bit, though the absence of any of Joe’s originals is always an obvious detraction — which is what keeps me from really loving either of them. The live document with Nat Adderly from Oct 1966 has some fiery-er playing from Joe than either of the two Left Banks with Wynton Kelly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_at_Memory_Lane But it’s a damn shame there’s nearly NO examples of Joe playing any of his own stuff in the 60’s — save for this one and ONLY example, at least that I’m aware of… “Isotope” Monterey, 1966

My wife and I just saw a local production of Assassins about 3 years ago — which I had long wanted to see, simply because the idea behind it seemed so incredibly and utterly unconventional. It was fascinating, and quite thought-provoking — and I might even like to go see it again in another decade.

Via Media Mail: Ordered from Dusty Groove on Monday evening, and got a shipping notice on Tue, 11/23. The initial USPS estimated delivery date was supposed to be 11/30 (Tue next week), by 9pm… But I just got word that it was delivered about 10 minutes ago — fully 4½ days EARLY!! Again, via Media Mail.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
Rooster_Ties replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I understand only the Moderna booster is 50% of the ‘regular’ dose for the 1st and 2nd shots. BUT that Moderna may actually still be stronger. From a Reddit thread I saw on Nov 17 (I know the date, because I txt-msg’d this to my cousin on that day)… In the comments on a Reddit thread, two different Reddit posters cited these particular figures about Moderna vs Pfizer: “A Pfizer full shot is 30 micrograms of mRNA, whereas a full shot of Moderna is 100 micrograms. So a half shot (booster) of Moderna (at 50 micrograms) is still more mRNA than a full shot of Pfizer.” …and nobody else on Reddit refuted these figures. So (yes) I don’t have a source, but I think this is more than likely accurate. (But whether that’s really “apples to apples” or not, I guess I’m not sure.) FWIW, I went with Moderna for my booster anyway, despite the “50% dose” thing — which I knew before making my decision. Oh, also, my wife’s doctor of ~6 years said she felt strongly that Moderna booster was the best of all the options — although I didn’t hear this until after I’d already gotten my Moderna booster (and after my wife had gotten her Pfizer booster). -

My arm was very sore for 36 hours, but I’d get the Moderna again if I had it to do over. I’m sure Pfizer is good too — and I’m not trying to talk it down — but there was no way in heck I’d get J&J again. That said, J&J was deemed “effective” at the time — and in defense of all these drug manufacturers, they were all doing their damnedest at the time to develop a vaccine under the gun, with no way to know the various longterm effectiveness of each one. We are all lucky there were multiple “good” options developed so quickly, including J&J (even if it doesn’t appear to last as long). It’s too easy to Monday-morning quarterback all this, and I’m trying not to be hyperbolic about my not wanting J&J again — especially since theirs could have just as easily been the best one as far as anyone knew… …but ESPECIALLY since so many people around the world haven’t even been vaccinated yet (some of whom will yet die of Covid), while so many of us here in the US and other parts of the “western world” have the privilege to be debating 3rd booster shots. In other words, I’m trying to be mindful of how lucky most of us are — I’m assuming practically all of us on this board — to have such easy and free access to multiple vaccines and boosters on top of that. -

From what I’ve read, Moderna is the longest acting immuno-response. Even if you get a strong reaction to the vaccine, personally I think it may well be worth it. -

My Moderna booster last week (after my J&J, 6 months ago) — made my arm sore as hell… But other than being a little tired, both of my Shingrix shingles shots earlier in the year were way worse — chills all night and overnight, shivering, and my teeth were even chattering after my first Shingrix shot (even bungled up under 2-3 layers covers). -
For whatever reason(s), I seem to vaguely remember they didn’t do preorders for the last 2-3 or even 4 sets they released. I’m half sure that the Joe Henderson and Hank Mobley 60’s sets dropped as live orders, with no presale period. This is in contrast with whatever earlier sets in the recent (but not as recent) past, where they tried to get so many pre-orders as they could in order to bring the set to final fruition — I’m thinking the most recent Woody Herman set was maybe like that? I forget all the specifics, but all that’s what’s rattling around in my head, if anyone happened to also remember any of that.

LF Eddie Henderson Anthology 2
Rooster_Ties replied to Tom 1960's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Can’t remember if I have an extra copy of this (vol 2, both Capricorn albums) — but I might. Am about 1,000 miles from home/DC at the moment, visiting my Dad in St. Louis. I can check when I’m back on Saturday or Sunday. Agree with Jim 100% that both these albums are even more more Mwandichichi than even Herbie’s own. Top drawer material, both of them, but especially the first one. -
I’m putting NO faith whatsoever in getindianews.com’s assessment of a jazz musician’s net worth. I only quoted the number here because it was so jaw-dropping.

Got my Moderna booster on Wednesday (11/7), and other than a really sore shoulder, no other significant side effects. I’d gotten J&J originally, so I’m very glad to have gotten another jab, especially with something other than J&J. My wife and father both got 3rd Pfizer shots a couple weeks ago, and I think my wife’s folks both got theirs too around then. -
This seems to still be the only link I can find online, which I find kind of surprising. Maybe he wasn’t a household name, but he certainly was known pretty well among jazz fans, I would think? Also, just looking at that “article” again, how in the heck did Slide amass such an incredible fortune as a jazz trombonist??!! Quoting directly from the article… Slide Hampton Net Worth The net worth of Slide Hampton has been reported to be approximately $10 Million, he is a well-known musician, he must have amassed a sizable fortune throughout his life, working with numerous bands…

Ah, I’m not on Facebook — never have been, I have to confess.

Album Cover Fails from Budget Labels
Rooster_Ties replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Perhaps a little generic, but those are all reasonably nice! — well, most of them anyway. Honesty, many of those are nicer than some other original Muse covers I’ve seen (assuming what I was seeing were in fact the original Muse cover designs). -
I don’t particularly doubt the news, but I’ve looked for some sort of an obit and perhaps some confirmation. Virtually nothing out there, at least that my Google skills can come up with. Really just this — from Get India News(!) — only posted 4 hours ago… https://getindianews.com/who-was-slide-hampton-and-what-was-his-cause-of-death-american-jazz-trombonist-died-at-89/

There was also a Lee Morgan too, now that I’m thinking of it. -

Now I’m vaguely remembering a Three Sounds title too, iirc. I only saw about 6-8 unique titles over the few years they were ‘available’ — maybe 10 tops. About half of them had already had legit US reissues here, McMasters — half of them were the first time I’d ever seen those particular titles here in the US anyway. At the time, the only place I ever saw any Japanese BN imports in any actual brick ‘n’ mortars was at Jazz Record Mart, which I only got to about once a year. Oh, and maybe Tower Records (or was it still Rose Records?) also in Chicago, around the same time (and just yearly). The thing was, they all sounded great! Better than the legit US issues. But I never A/B’ed any of the same title in both releases. -

What about those all those Japanese(!) Blue Note cheapos with the generic blue and white covers (maybe a little black in there too). I want to say they all said “Best Selection” or something similar — but the weren’t compilations, but rather full albums, in GREAT sound quality too (iirc) — or at least LIGHT YEARS better than the Applause CD issues of similar Blue Note stuff. I had an Ornette one (maybe one or both of the Golden Circles?), and Jackie McClean too (maybe one of the pianoless titles with Grachan Moncur and Bobby Hutcherson?). Maybe a couple more, I can’t remember. Circa early 90’s, iirc. I only ever saw them at Euclid Records and/or Vintage Vinyl in St. Louis. Anybody else remember these?? Not that the cover art was ‘bad’ — it was just generic, and all the same for every album — except the text. Might not have even had tray-card inserts, iirc. But the sound quality was damn good, pretty similar to full-blown TOCJ’s, iirc. Anybody? Were these legit? I know the Applause were supposedly legit, at least on LP and cassettes (then subject to a later lawsuit in the CD era, which BN somehow won and got Applause shut down from issuing more CD’s) — iirc. But no idea about the origin and legal status of the Japanese “Best Selection” BN titles. Always wondered about them, especially given the sound quality. Was this one of them?? https://www.amazon.com/Ornette-Coleman-Trio-Best-Selection/dp/B000OV33CW Edit: I seem to remember one of the other titles I had in this cheap series was a Blue Mitchel BN (maybe the one (or one of the ones?) with Joe Henderson?) Forgot to mention I rarely paid more than $7-$8 for them back then, iirc.
