  1. I saw Bouton pitch for the Portland Mavericks (the subject of the documentary, "The Battered Bastards Of Baseball") in the 70's. By then, he was a knuckleballer. He went 4-1 with a 2.20 ERA. "Ball Four" along with Jim Brosnan's book, "The Long Season" both put baseball under a microscope that was not particularly flattering.
  2. You ain't seen nothin' yet. Wait until they start selling alcohol at SEC football games.
  3. Jim Morrison died 48 years today, so I'm spinning some Doors LP's.
  4. Agreed. If this one doesn't hold your attention, check your pulse. Hanks is terrific.
  5. Rara avis. There's one LP on Discogs going for $168 and change.
  6. Listened to some samples yesterday. Not impressed. It almost seems like he's trying too hard. All things considered, Santana is easily one of my all-time Top 10 bands, but every dog has its day.
  7. The past is like a foreign country. Things are different there. As to the band America, I have only one thing to say. MAGA. Shitty lyrics and all, I love those guys.
  8. Thought some long time posters might enjoy this walk down memory lane.
  9. Here's the latest from a story on CNN: https://us.cnn.com/2019/06/03/tech/itunes-apple-wwdc/index.html
  10. Great "little" movie with Peter Dinklage, Patricia Clarkson and Bobby Cannavale.
  11. One of the greats from an entirely different era. https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/05/26/bart-starr-death-obit-green-bay-packers-dynasty-quarterback
  12. An album called "Friends of Extinction" from an early 80's band called The Dinosaurs. Their line-up included Peter Albin of Big Brother and the Holding Company, John Cipollina of Quicksilver Messenger Service, Spencer Dryden of Jefferson Airplane, Robert Hunter of the Grateful Dead, Barry Melton of Country Joe and the Fish and keyboardist Merl Saunders from the Saunders-Garcia Band. Interesting music from sort of a who's who of late 60's San Francisco rock.

  14. Just curious. How long do you guys give a book before you give up and move on? When there are so many good books out there just waiting to be read, I find that I'm giving them pretty short shrift if I don't connect with them fairly quickly.
  15. Interesting stat I just stumbled across. During one two year period mid-career, Havlicek played in 163 out of 164 games and averaged over 45 minutes per game.
  16. John Havlicek passed away today at age 79. If you never saw him play, you missed one of the all-time greats. He was on eight championship teams with the Celtics, he was a league MVP and an all-star 13 times. How good was he? He and Dave Winfield are the only two athletes who were drafted by teams in the NBA, The NFL and Major League Baseball.
  17. I was thinking about the beginning of the CD era and all that came with it reissue-wise.
  18. I wanna go back to 1975 when Blue Note was still relevant.
  19. I'm not sure you'll see anything quite like that soon...if ever. Tiger always looks so buttoned down on the course, but, inside, he had to be churning. And it's not like he didn't make it interesting. The way he's been putting from ten feet and in of late, everything has been an adventure. Remember how Tiger used to make his playing partners wilt by just being Tiger? I thought there was a little of that mojo at work today on the back nine....just ask Finau and Molinari. 15th major and a 5th green jacket. It kind of feels like order has been restored and that everything is a little more right with the world.
  20. Nothing quite compares with this version:
  21. I'm beginning to wonder about that conversation with Lou Donaldson.
  22. Yankee batters struck out 18 times yesterday and the Mariners are 7-1. I feel like I'm living in some sort of alternate universe.
  23. It's being reported that Jagger will be having heart valve replacement surgery within the next few days.
