Yeah is see what you mean. I dived into the ECM disco on Spotify a few months ago listening to albums that were rated highly on RYM. Lots of those more unknown Scandinavian names. I didn’t run into any records that I truly disliked but also not into one I wanted to listen to again. Well just one record by guitarist Jakob Bro. The only Tord Gustavsen I like is with singer Simin Tander. I like it more for here presence than for Tords who I find a pretty dull pianist to be honest.
Yeah that whole period is my favorite Don Cherry. The Blue Notes plus the ESP's and the BYG. Lovely side appereances with Albert Heath on Kawaida en with Clifford Jordan on 'In the World'. Mostly recorded between 1965 and 1970.
Haha it was hard. So many interesting and rare records. That Jefferson is on my radar! Your recommendation brings back my memory: I saw it a few months ago on the Sam website and it sparked my interest
No Cecil Taylor on that one it’s actually Jimmy Lyons and Sunny Murray with John Lindberg on bass. Intense and highly recommended music!
Saved up monthly for the big record fair in Den Bosch and I did manage to pick up some great records. Prices seem to get a little more reasonable too. These items were all on my 64 piece wantlist so I felt very lucky. And I didn’t make even one impulsive buy. The discipline of me. I’m getting better at these things.
This might be the best sounding recording I have. It’s the Tone Poet version. The clarity, detail, seperation: it’s amazing. Plus this is one hell of a record. My number one Chick for sure
It’s great. This is one of the best of the series so far (5 more to listen to) Up till now none of the releases in these series has disappointed but it’s a lot of music to digest. RYM gives a pretty accurate rating of the separate releases so you could use that to decide which volume you might pick if you don’t want all the volumes.
