  1. Looks like serious literature. Does it come with a pack of razor blades?
  2. Don't the drums bother you? Too up front? Generally, no room to breath? I know I'm on headphones, but on Amazon.com there are similar complaints.
  3. Portugal will probably further self-destruct. Hopefully for the Yanks the mayhem will be unrelenting.
  4. That Pepe is also a first class asshole.
  5. There were other 4th Dimension live releases before Boston Record. The Belgrade DVD has a bad reputation (production quality issues), but the band's contribution to the double CD Abstract Logix Live: The New Universe Music Festival 2010 is outstanding. Unfortunately Now Here This was almost unlistenable due to the lousy mix.
  6. 4-0 already. What an embarrassment for the Portugese. Well done Germany.
  7. 'Juichen' for England, tonight. Good luck!
  8. I believe referees can give a yellow card, but basically it's part of the culture, especially in Southern Europe and Latin America. All these grown macho men crying like babies and begging for penalties and cards for opponents. It's called a Schwalbe in German.
  9. http://youtu.be/eE_IUPInEuc Is it Holland or The Netherlands?
  10. Yes, pretty pedestrian stuff. Already at $1125 with three days to go!
  11. When a set like the Jamal approaches end of licence will it first be added to Last Chance or will it simply disappear unannounced overnight?
  12. Bulgakov -- what a joy, and this one is a favorite. 20 or so years ago Harvey Pekar's review of "The Master and Margarita" in the Chicago Tribune book section, edited by Larry Kart, was what introduced me to Bulgakov. I learned about Bulgakov and A Dog's Heart from a footnote in Orlando Figes's A People's Tragedy: The Russian Revolution 1891-1924. I've since read both that book and The Master and Margaritain their Penguin Classics translations. Now reading: Alaistar Reynolds - Blue Remembered Earth (2012, Gollancz)
  13. Breaking Bad marathon. Season one, now.
  14. That could be so, Lon. What other way is there for the Japanese to use the original master tapes? Perhaps these late Coltrane SHMs from October 2011 were mastered in the US for the Japanese market like the Prestige 7000 SHMs?
  15. Just avoid 1q84 for the time being. It starts out fine, but even in the abridged English translation it would be a chore to finish.
  16. It is a Japanese repressing of the 2008 US Originals remaster. I verified this by making a secure rip and comparing CRC32 hash codes. Of course if you are of the opinion that the Super High Material (SHM) produces a difference in sound quality, it might sound different to you. It did not to me on my Sennheiser HD650 headphones system. I would advise against purchasing that disc. The reason a lot of SHMs sound good are the new masterings. SHMs that copy US masterings are only of interest to people who are convinced they can hear the difference on their high end system.
  17. Sure, late Coltrane is immortal. People in the sixties might have had trouble accepting that music given what came before, but I'm sure that for later generations there will be no such controversy.
  18. I found an Australian jazz record store (Sydney) that had a copy of Archie Shepp's Attica Blues in stock (confirmed by e-mail). Unfortunately, he didn't have that Coltrane title (Seattle) you were after, Lon.
  19. Crystal Disc? I took a screenshot because this must be a mistake. Look at the price.
  20. What's the best place to get (older) Nessa CDs for people in Europe? Do they go out of print quickly?
  21. Loud and manipulated. Just compare Oliver Nelson's Blues and the Abstract Truth to the Kevin Gray mastered Hybrid SACD.
