    Mary Halvorson

Has anybody had the chance to see Mary Halvorson's new project Mary Halvorson's Code Girl live yet? There are only two short 1 minute clips available on YouTube. There must be a new CD coming soon. Mary Halvorson's Code Girl: Mary Halvorson (guitar), Amirtha Kidambi (voice), Ambrose Akinmusire (trumpet), Michael Formanek (bass), Tomas Fujiwara (drums)
  3. I'm not a fan either. They look ugly on most people. Was the original Black Saint label ever used on CD releases?
  4. How many tracks does the Solid reissue of the Time trio album have?
  5. Dave Holland - Ones All (Intuition Music) Another favourite.
  6. Mary Halvorson - Meltframe (Firehouse 12)
  7. Anthony Braxton - Solo (Pisa) 1982 (Golden Years, Leo) Insanely good and better sound quality then the other two Braxton solo live recordings on Golden Years. For Alto is the classic, of course, but the Pisa album deserves to be counted among his best as well.
  8. So I cancelled my Amazon (pre-)order of the new Monk and Horace Tapscott's The Dark Tree to get these rare Threadgill beauties on CD instead: The Henry Threadgill Sextet - When Was That? (About Time Recrords) The Henry Threadgill Sextet - Just the Facts and Pass the Bucket (About Time Records) Henry Threadgill - Too Much Sugar for a Dime (Axiom)
  9. If you read the English translation it was substantially abridged! Not that you were missing out on much of value imo.
  10. Well, he is retired after all.
  11. I noticed A Lark Ascending does not post at Organissimo anymore. Is he alright?
  12. Thanks, Chuck. I will just have to exercise a little patience then.

  14. A lot of Nessa titles are on backorder at Importcds and WowHD. Is this a temporary matter or are certain titles going OOP? (Or is it perhaps your aim to keep all titles in print?)
  15. Miles Davis - Jack Johnson (MFSL, hybrid SACD)
  16. As a principle I do not pay money for sampling albums. Streaming services are nothing but glorified sampling services to me. I know they are something else for others here, and for Millennials, well .. the less said the better. When I bought my €1100 Dali Ikon 5 MK2 speakers two years ago, the twenty-something idiot in the store would only let me listen to a streaming service he controlled through his fucking phone, because (his words) it would be too much trouble for him to hook up a CD player for me. Needless to say, I ended up buying the speakers someplace else. In the end I ended up listening more closely to the Threadgill Mosaic over the last month as it is available on bittorrent, which to me is nothing more than a sampling service for music I am considering buying on disc. I do not equate (temporarily) having a FLAC or MP3 file on my harddrive with owning music, and neither with stealing for that matter.
  17. Yes, thanks. I can't believe I almost missed out on it. It was the high price that was keeping me from taking a chance. I listened to online samples over the years and the music never completely clicked with me. There were the high ratings for the later albums in the Penguin Guides, but the instrumentation seemed strange (accordion). Turns out Threadgill's music is actually quite addictive.
  18. It's been almost eleven years since the last post, but what a story about Julius Hemphill being forced out of the WSQ. And after all that they had the gall to record a tribute album.
  19. The Threadgill arrived from Barcelona! Next day delivery with TNT.
  20. It's from Mosaic's Jazz Icons DVD Live in France 1969.
