  1. Both the 90s and 00s digipaks are horrible. The 90s has a repulsively bloated, distorted bass, and the 00s is LOUD on top of that. You won't regret getting this for $8. I'll place an order for the following six titles soon. Max Roach - Percussion Bitter Sweet, It's Time, Elvin Jones & Jimmy Garrison - Illumination!, Oliver Nelson - More Blues And The Abstract Truth, Marion Brown - Three For Shepp, & Ahmad Jamal - The Awakening.
  2. Listening to UCCI 9248 right now. I think this may be the SHM-CD remaster. Liner notes have a 2011 date, the album's separated into five tracks (my 1989 MCA copy has only two), and the sound is very good — especially beginning with track 3 (which is the LP's B-side). UCCI 9263 also has 2011 liner notes, which leads me to believe that it too may come from the SHM-CD remaster. UCCI 9255, in contrast, is labeled UCCI 9167 on the spine, back cover, and inserts, so this one comes from the 2010 edition. I haven't listened to it yet. "Low-priced edition" essentially guarantees no new remaster, but sometimes you get a superior (earlier) remaster for a better price ... and then sometimes not. The Meditations SHM-CD did indeed have new Japanese liner notes from July 2011. Others like Stellar Regions reproduced the US digipak booklet and had the new liner notes as an insert. But no new masterings for any of the other titles not released on SHM-CD in 2011 I presume. I'll proceed with caution, then.
  3. What about the tiresome serial cheating? Especially the earlier seasons. In the end, I'm glad I continued watching.
  4. The track times on these two Japanese LPs correspond closely to the times of the FLAC tracks from the BN box I have on my hard drive, unlike the Japanese CD I own. Japanese LP 1 Japanese LP 2 The Japanese CD from 2006 is also too loud for my taste. It highlights the deficiencies of the original recording.
  5. I ended up cancelling the above order: a couple of weeks in the listing on the main site changed to that status where it looks like it'll never be back in stock and there were other things that i needed the money for anyway. Was pleasantly surprised to see it back in stock while browsing last night: re-ordered, so stoked. I believe it's not speed corrected unlike the BN box that was. Dang. I actually have a lossless copy of the BN box that i ripped from the library years ago so it'll be interesting to compare. I have a Japanese disc from 2006 (TOCJ-6806) and the track times do not correspond with those of the BN box. I think the sound is pretty off-putting. Here's a link to the one i'm getting, not sure if you can tell anything from it. Looks to have been released in 2010: http://www.amazon.co.jp/バド・パウエルの芸術-バド・パウエル/dp/B003VPMF18/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1431814450&sr=8-14&keywords=Bud+powell I believe your copy is TOCJ-50040.

  8. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. But Creole Gardens is fantastic. I listened earlier this week. Will need to grab the Brice you showed. And erwbol, the Braxton is top notch! Great Gerry Hemingway on there, and I love Brax's notes. Yes, and that is on top of the payed vacation off-time US citizens sadly don't get either. PS Even the unemployed and disabled get this "vacation money" (a fixed percentage of their income).
  9. No doubt in the same retarded digipaks that completely scratch up the discs. Do you store your Hat CDs inside those foldouts? If so, take a few out, inspect under direct lamplight, and weep, or moan if you prefer. Years of promises without an actual reissue of said albums seeing the light of day is a fact. A tentative start to deliver on old promises is what we are seeing here. Swift reissues of Garden and Santa Cruz parts 2 would go a long way towards building confidence.
  10. Sonny Clark Deep Night from Cool Struttin'. Sonny is outstanding.
  11. Sonny Clark - Cool Struttin' (TYCJ-81003) Unlike the XRCD, which has the two bonus tracks in mono, the SHM-CD contains the complete session in stereo. The two bonus tracks can also be found on Sonny Clark Quintets (UCCQ-5001) along with Cool Struttin' as a bonus track (all in mono).
  12. Wayward Pines M. Night Shyamalan's piss-poor Twin Peaks substitute.
  13. I placed an order for the Mobile Fidelity Hybrid SACD of Sorcerer. (Original Teo Macero mix.)
  14. A fine book, David. The only Philip K. Dick novel I truly enjoyed. I've even read it twice. So have I! Me three! and I'm not a big Philip Dick fan by any means.... I used to own the three volume Philip K. Dick Library of America hardcover collection, but my copy got water damaged before I got to the later novels in the third volume. Oh well.
  15. I sold one of two copies of Andrew Hill's Mosaic Select 16 I own on eBay. I might buy Cecil Taylor's Alms/Tiergarten (Spree) with the remuneration.

  17. It's also out on blu-ray and is supposed to be region free.
  18. Ken MacLeod - The Night Sessions (Orbit, 2008) A bishop is dead. As Detective Inspector Adam Ferguson picks through the rubble of the tiny church, he discovers that it was deliberately bombed. That it's a terrorist act is soon beyond doubt. It's been a long time since anyone saw anything like this. Terrorism is history . . . After the Middle East wars and the rising sea levels - after Armageddon and the Flood - came the Great Rejection. The first Enlightenment separated church from state. The Second Enlightenment has separated religion from politics. In this enlightened age there's no persecution, but the millions who still believe and worship are a marginal and mistrusted minority. Now someone is killing them. At first, suspicion falls on atheists more militant than the secular authorities. But when the target list expands to include the godless, it becomes evident that something very old has risen from the ashes. Old and very, very dangerous . . .
  19. A case of too lazy to look that up yourself? Chuck's web address is in his signature.

    Anthony Braxton

[upcoming album releases] We are aiming to release three box sets in the fall of 2015, with advance purchase options for website members (more information coming soon). Deluxe multi-media Trillium J box set containing live performance video on Blu-ray disc and studio recording on 4-CD set (New Braxton House Records). 3 Compositions (EEMHM) 2011, first studio recording of Braxton's Echo Echo Mirror House Music as 3-CD set or surround sound Blu-ray disc from our partners at Firehouse 12 Records. Quintet (Tristano) 2014, a 7-CD set of Braxton's interpretation of the complete music of Lennie Tristano and associated colleagues including Billy Bauer, Connie Crothers, Warne Marsh, Sal Mosca among others (New Braxton House Records). So the new Echo Echo Mirror House set is a studio recording. That seems a new bit of information.
  21. Not me, I'm kinda like, "too bad for you if you can't even find some teenaged nephew/niece to steal it off of a bit-torrent site instead of paying some stranger to do it for you". Because when you go off into these deeply nasty EuroMusiPornbox collections, that's pretty much all you're doing and that's pretty much all you're getting. Ace, btw, rocks. Totally. You do not need a minor to do your dirty work for you. You need a VPN that supports bittorrent traffic and does not keep logs.
