A little late, I know, but I grabbed this one on Lp a few days ago. I plan on a first spin today or tommorow. Excited to hear this one - great line-up!

I've been listening a lot to LUSH LIFE after a musician friend of mine commented that "this one should be in everyone's collection". It really is incredible. I like the varied contexts too; Late is right about that trio blues track, very cool. B-) I'm going to try and find at least a couple of these sessions today, hopefully SOULTRANE and one other.

There is an Ike Quebec. See above, a few posts before yours. Looks like a nice batch, BTW. I'm liking the inclusion of the Quebec (first RVG), Brooks (ditto), and the LaRoca date I've heard rave reviews about. Always nice to see a Mobley title in there as well, especially as it's one I don't have.

That's a good one, eh? I'll have to grab a copy for myself. Although maybe Aric has a copy I can "borrow".

Yeah, that HIPNOSIS date could be my favorite off of the Moncur Mosaic Select. Especially the title track. Some smokin' Jackie on that set as well. Grab it Al, it's a good set.

MINGUS AT ANTIBES, is the last Mingus album that I picked up. It's pretty damn good, IMO. W/ Dolphy tearing it up, as well as Booker Ervin and others (Jaki Byard, perhaps). Bud Powell also sits in on a couple of tunes, including I'll Remember April. From the '64 European Tour, I believe.

Paul Chambers - Select #5 -- Ridiculous.

I taped it from the "Cool TV" jazz channel. It's excellent, don't hesitate to grab the DVD.

I second (or is it third) the LEAPIN' AND LOPIN' recommendation - or any other Sonny Clark albums for that matter. A SLICE OF THE TOP would be sweet too, as would a re-mastered version of THE GIGOLO, regardless of current selling numbers (I'm sure RVG could clean up the sound a bit; plus we'd get some new liners from everyone's favorite, Bob Blumenthal). Just my 2 cents.

I only have vol. 5, but it is indeed excellent. Bill Harris guests on the latter half of the disc. Superb stuff.

Sonny Rollins - NEXT ALBUM

J.J.'s playing really does move me. I don't think his virtuosity gets in the way of conveying an enormous amount of feeling. Heavy shit he played. Teagarden ranks right up there, too.
