  1. Ron Pittner "the indigo mirror and the ivory dot" (angelus, USA) Kent Carter on bass!
  2. Soooo..do tell...what vinyl treats did you find!?
  3. It's just self-titled. Krakatau were amazing and I bought these two Takamaki trio Lps around 15 years ago based on the strength of those Krakatau albums myself...
  4. It's actually over 40 years old!
  5. I have that LP; it's incredible but their first one is even better! Was that reissued as well?
  6. Some interesting impressions/comments again! Thanks for participating!
  7. It's not Ken McIntyre, Sonny Fortune, nor Jackie McLean...but good guesses...can hear why you would guess these!
  8. Anne Briggs "s/t" (topic, UK)
  9. Grachan Moncur III "evolution" (blue note, NY stereo w/ear) Eric Dolphy "out to lunch" (blue note, NY mono w/ear). Pulling out a few of my small stash of actually dead silent originals...I don't have many but hearing these clean originals makes me wish all my original blue notes were this quiet!
  10. He was a memorable bass player. He did some great things with Derek Bailey. He's an absolute monster on Steve Lacy's "stalks" album. This thread is almost futile in that there are so many great bass players out there both past and present. I'm a fan of many of the bass players already mentioned but if I had to choose a personal favorite I would lean towards Barre Phillips. I've seen him live at least 6-7 times over the last 20 years as well as a brilliant workshop session by him. He has big ears..a very versatile player with excellent tone and feel.
  11. Wayne Shorter "night dreamer" (blue note, King Japan). Until I win the lottery I think I'll focus on King pressings and Music Matters 33rpm pressings of Blue Note titles. I'm sick and tired of "VG++" and "ex" originals with audible crackles, clicks and pops. Why listen to vinyl if there's audible surface noise?
  12. Well Evan told me that particular issue sounds quite nice as it was pressed at Nimbus...he feels the Japanese press is equally great. According to him the second issue on the light blue label does not sound so hot... Anyway it deserves a vinyl reissue for sure!
  13. The extra tracks are good but not revelatory in any way. I think I had about 3 different copies of this over the years until I finally found a true 1st pressing with both original inserts!
  14. I have an old issue of it somewhere...LaDonna Smith and Davey Williams were involved. They released a number of LPs of free improv on their Trans Museq label...I have the first LP on that label but nothing more.
  15. What could possibly be more important then a BFT on an internet jazz forum!?!?
  16. Thanks for the kind words and glad you are enjoying it! Looking forward to your comments on the rest of the tracks...
  17. I have both of these albums, and they are both brilliant in their own special way..
  18. I have both of these albums, and they are both brilliant in their own special way..
  19. All my Fontanas in this series are the Japanese ones save for Brown's "Juba-lee" which is a mint dutch original. I think I got it for around $60 over 15 years ago...no idea what these go for now as I'm happy with my Japanese issues...
  20. Those Miles sets are my favorite boxes too...only missing the "seven steps" box but I'll fix that one day. I personally love the "on the corner" box as I find that a neglected period...
  21. Miles Davis "Seven steps to heaven" (Columbia 2-eye stereo, USA) John Coltrane "giant steps" (Atlantic maroon mono, Canada)....the "Canadian" original pressing...just like the American black label Atlantic but maroon in colour. Found last year for $10 in great shape...sounds excellent
  22. Paul Gonsalves "boom-Jackie-boom-chick" (vocalion, Japan). A very nice album indeed..
  23. The Jazz Messengers "s/t" (Columbia mono 6-eye, USA) finally landed a mint copy of this classic with Byrd, Watkins, Mobley and Silver.
  24. Pierre Henry "prismes" (Philips, France)
