  1. Haha...actually only around 13% :-0
  2. You're welcome! I'll give more detailed responses to your initial reactions later today when I have more time, but for now I can indeed say that a good chunk of this BFT is from the 70s but certainly not all of it! Oh, and it's entirely sourced from vinyl which may be another helpful clue
  3. I need that Carter Jefferson album too...totally unaware of it myself!
  4. Hi all...here is where you can comment on and discuss the BFT for October. The download link and online listening link were both posted by Thom Keith in the BFT #127 sign up thread.
  5. Guy Warren "the African sounds of" (fiesta, USA). A surprise find today for $10 in pretty nice shape on my first visit to a local record store in maybe half a year. A Denis Preston Lansdowne production with Amancio D'Silva, Dick Heckstall-Smith, etc released in the USA on this seemingly budget label entitled "Fiesta". Anyway a nice companion to his "Afro Jazz" LP.
  6. Wow that's a band I havnt heard in ages! Used to have their first 3 records and saw them live around 1990!
  7. I am playing my very first Mosaic Vinyl box - "the complete Horace Parlan sessions on Blue Note". Bought recently on eBay for $99 in mint condition. Had the chance to also buy the complete Andrew Hill blue note Mosaic from the same seller for $225 but passed since I have all the Andrew Hill Blue Note LPs...even though I realize $225 was a steal it would have been a bit redundant. However I do not own anything by Horace Parlan on Blue Note so this purchase was a no-brainer! I love the liner notes. Does the music sound better then the original Blue Notes? I'm not so sure...sound is great but I'm not blown away like I am by some of my original "plastylite" blue notes. I think I will be happy with this set at this good price...it also helps that I have an audiophile friend who has a complete collection of all the Mosaic vinyl boxes releases so far!
  8. My loss!? Yeah sorry man...Coleman was my first big jazz love when I first heard his music as a 16 year old almost 25 years ago. I *love* Ornette Coleman...the size of my record and CD shelf space given to him will attest to that but yeah - I don't dig his trumpet and violin playing! I don't hate it, but time is limited so when I want to hear him I'll skip that stuff.
  9. Huh. Have not heard that Shandar album...what's it like? Two classical guitars? Right now: Ornette Coleman "at the golden circle, vol.2" (NY USA mono with ear blue note) I skipped the track with trumpet and violin...doesn't do anything for me, but the rest is prime Coleman!
  10. Mine has the "ear" as well on both sides. One side also has a "bell sound" stamp in the dead wax. Also one side has a deep groove. The innersleeve has pictures and interviews with Cecil Taylor, Albert Ayler, etc regarding the new music. Also the former owner of mine enclosed a NY Times newspaper clipping about the new music that dates from 1965. Sadly no Paul Haines booklet but i can always open my Revenant box if I want to read it!
  11. Recommended ! Alas re: community fairs, about the only credible offerings at the ones around here are home-made cakes etc. I've had a few lucky finds in terms of blue notes in local shops but not many. Best for me was finding an early 2nd issue of "something else" (has the little "r" under the Blue Note logo otherwise has all first press indicators) for $5.99 Canadian in a local college rock music store..was in mint condition too...maybe they thought it was a reissue?
  12. Haha...I think in places like London or New York one can still find the occasional deal in local record shops...sadly not the case where I live.
  13. Never heard of that Bill Russo lp? What's it like? The rendell/Carr "live" lp is fantastic.,.have a mint stereo copy myself.
  14. Hi, I am presenting this edition of the Blindfold test...download and online listening links will be posted shortly. I assume with the online listening link that nobody will need a hard copy but let me know if you do need one. Hope everyone enjoys this one!
  15. I had to return 2 titles so far but only bought 7 thus far. Both were for some tics and pops but I haven't had any with warps? Maybe I've just been lucky.
  16. Eero Koivistien "wahoo" (RCA, Finland) killer sounding Finnish original with Edward Vesala, Juhani Aaltonen, etc
  17. Can "Tago Mago" (united artists, Germany). Original German press and killer fidelity
  18. I hear that title will be presented next year in the music matters 33rpm reissue series in mono..can't wait for that! That series has been really excellent so far and it's nice to hear some of these titles in pristine/quiet condition. Nothing annoys me more then spending 3 figures on an original blue note only to hear some crackles and pops..even if there's only a few..
  19. I used to own that LP because of Wheeler's presence many years ago but got rid of it because I hardly played it and when I did the music did not really grab me. However I'd be curious to hear it again as it's been 10-15 years since I trimmed it from the collection...
  20. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Bill Evan's solo on "flamenco sketches"...it's the one that immediately jumps to my mind. When I first heard it I was startled by the slowness and staggering sense of space and restraint. So simplistic yet it hit me like a brick!
  21. Classic album; bought the cassette when it was first released way back as I already had the Tweez LP and was a big fan of the Lousville scene eg.squirrelbait, bastro... I just bought the more standard LP/DVD reissue set...it's a pretty funny documentary! Love the interviews with the parents haha
  22. Don Cherry "complete communion" (blue note, NY USA mono) Jackie McLean "let freedom ring" (blue note, NY USA mono) Jackie McLean "destination out" (blue note, NY USA mono) Asmus Tietchens "in die nacht" (sky, Germany). Just for a change of pace
  23. Neil Young "on the beach" (reprise, USA). My second favorite Neil young album after "tonight's the night"
  24. Thanks for posting
  25. Steve Lacy "spiritual moments" (paddlewheel, Japan). Love this album...for some reason his Japanese LPs resonate deeply with me but then again it's no coincidence I have a ton of Masahiko Togashi albums as well...
