  1. I personally love John Fahey and Davy Graham for acoustic blues playing...and I'll second Clifford's recommendation of the "pre-war gospel" CD on Revenant...great stuff. I'm a guitar player myself for 30 years now and for me nothing quite matches Fahey's taste, emotion, and sensitivity....
  2. Wooooo!!!! I think I just woke up my neighborhood with my cheers haha
  3. Costa Rica is playing for PK; they know they have a good goalkeeper and that's their only chance to win.
  4. I should dust off my "joggers and smoggers" 2LP! Have not played the EX in ages...I remember I had some of their earlier stuff as a young man but at the time I preferred the Dog Faced Hermans. Now playing: Steve Reid "rhythmatism" (mustevic, USA)
  5. I'll keep my eye out for those, sound interesting. Thanks for the recs. I'll second those recommendations...there's a whole bunch of Japanese TOK Lps that are great too...and "legend of the sea myself" is also very worthwhile.
  6. I hear ya...and I recall being super excited to hear this when I bought the LP some 20 years ago..loved the cover and thought to myself "how could it be anything but great". However it proved to be underwhelming to my ears...hope you like it..post your thoughts when you do!
  7. I'll be the fly in the appointment and let you know I agree with those reviews...amazing players but not one of the best sessions. A bit too sleepy for my tastes as well...I have a nice Liberty LP pressing but I rarely if ever play it.
  8. My order arrived today: Big John Patton "Blue John" Jackie McLean "tippin the scales" Sonny Clark "My conception" Grant Green "first session" Tina Brooks "the waiting game" Tina Brooks "back to the tracks" Hank Mobley quintet "featuring Sonny Clark" Lots of listening to do! I was tempted to buy more but restricted myself to sessions I didn't own yet rather then succumb to the temptation to buy another version of a session I already have. I have been pretty pleased with the sound of older titles in this SHM series...and for roughly $15 us each it's not that bad a deal for a Japanese import. One last thing - glad to see the actual cover used for the "tippin the scales" CD is the same as the Japanese King LP! Ugh that USA lp cover is ugly, and thankfully it is reproduced on the inside rather then on the front
  9. Fantastic album. Fahey occupies much record shelf space here...
  10. It was a great game this morning...I was worried during the first half as Mexico looked to be the stronger team but it was all Netherlands after that first Mexico goal! Just before half time was a real penalty. He was hit twice by two different players in succession. A deserved penalty in the end. On Dutch television Robben freely admitted that earlier on he made a Schwalbe and appologised. This without being asked about it by the presenter. So ... Agreed. It was a legit penalty...
  11. McCoy Tyner "today and tomorrow" (Impulse, USA)
  12. Harold Vick "don't look back" (strata east, USA)
  13. Miles Davis "round about midnight" (Columbia 180 gram mono reissue) Marion Brown "geechee recollections" (Impulse, USA)
  14. That's what I hate about jazz; you have to keep on buying different editions of the same album over and over again! I love both "oblique" and "happenings" - I also think "dialogue" is amazing too but altogether a different animal..definitely more in the "free" idiom. So do I really need the SHMs of "oblique" and "happenings"? I have a NY stereo original LP of "happenings" and the RVG cd of "oblique".
  15. We had been "email" friends for over 10 years or more; was a very kind and generous man. We bonded over our shared passion for the music of Steve Lacy and Masahiko Togashi. I knew he had been ill for some time, but it was still a sad shock to hear.
  16. Very nice! I paid a few limbs for a stone mint copy of this some years ago and do not regret it at all...
  17. Steve Lacy "The Gap" (America, France) Armonicord "esprits de sel" (electrobande, France)
  18. That chocolate box always looked so annoying to me I happily bought the slightly later gatefold 2LP pressing of it years ago!
  19. Sun Ra "live at Gibus" (Atlantic, France)
  20. Amancio D'Silva "integration" (EMI lansdowne, UK)
  21. Brilliant I'm really glad I took the day off work to watch this game
  22. Brilliant Van Persie goal! Felt really good after Spain's questionable penalty gift goal...
  23. Barney Wilen "zodiac" (vogue, France)
