  1. Here's a quote by the great photographer Philip Greenspun that summerizes my feelings toward the subject:

  6. I hadn't a chance to pick this CD up in time, though I will eventually. Walter Blanding lived in Israel for a few years. (hence "The Olive Tree", I guess.) He was something of the house Sax player in a Tel Aviv Jazz club called Camelot. I think that his contribution to the Israeli Jazz scene was very important. He was able to pursuade many friends of his to come and play in Israel. And for that I'm grateful. I also believe that the influx talented Jazz Israelis in NYC in the last decade had also something to do with him. I cought him play many times in Camelot, most of the times with an Israeli pick up Rhythm session, and I liked what I heard. I liked his tone and attack, I liked the respect he had for the youngsters who often played with him. Some of them have continued to NYC and gained some recognition of their talents. I especially remember the time when Blanding and Eric Reed played duo in Camelot. Blanding brought a Bari Sax as well as his tenor this evevning (he would do it from time to time) and it was a smoking evening!

  14. have'nt picked up this reissue yet, but I like the lp alot. In fact I played L'Chaim (to Life) track at our wedding reception, so I have a warm spot for this lp. Charles Lloyd is great in this session, too.
  15. Wow! Excellent news! I can't wait for the CJB, and the Amy. And from the Verve compilation of Eldridge it will probably be a great session yet. Now - time to save some money!
  16. I believe that initially it was OP, not Mingus, who was scheduled to play the Bass. Can someone speculate In what what, if at all, the music would have changed with OP on Bass?
  17. I can't say, but one thing I know - God's favorite color os WHITE
  18. Dear Neon, In these past few day you have shown a real noble character. You have demonstrated a fine ability to forgive and forget even racist people. You were willing to give a second chance even to those who are violent in nature. You have shown real character standing for what you think is right, even if that associates you, your site and your beloved NJ with scums. You've endorsed some sort of affirmative action even to those who had already revealed their true evil traits in public without even showing any remorse to these conducts. For all of that - I salute you for being a true human rights and civil liberties protector. If only more humans were like you... The world would be a better place. (for WASPs)
  19. Noj, If I'm not mistaken, the Blue Notes are in fact, Pacific Jazz LPs.
  20. Dan, I believe "Get Up & Get it" is one of the 2 LPs on the "Blue Groove" CD that I just mentioned in my earlier post.
  21. Groove gets realtively a lot of playing hours on my player. Like Tom, I'm partial to his 2 Pacific Jazz Albums with Jug and Ben. I also like his Prestige "Blue Groove" Twofer one session with Teddy Edwards, Pat Martino, PC and Billy Higgins. The other is with Blue Mitchell and Harold Vick. Strange as it may sound I hear Bill Evans' influences in Groove's playing on the Prestiges.
  22. My handle is quite stright forward: My forst name is Barak which means "Lightning" is Hebrew. My last name is Weiss which is "White" in German. Sounds like a 70s rock group or a name of a Native American to my ears. I like it!
