Nice songs but it certainly sounds auto-tuned to me. -

News flash: They are lip-syncing. -
I think this would be the perfect spot for hammondcheese's favorite "It's a conspiracy!" graphic. But seriously (as if this needs to be taken seriously), if this was actually happening in 5 years, we'd be able to see the thing by now. It would be huge in the sky, since they claim it is bigger than Jupiter. Also, they claim it will shift the magnetic poles. The north pole is already moving, but read this from National Geographic: "The shift is likely a normal oscillation of the Earth's magnetic field, Stoner said, and not the beginning of a flip-flop of the north and south magnetic poles, a phenomenon that last occurred 780,000 years ago. Such reversals have taken place 400 times in the last 330 million years, according to magnetic clues sealed in rocks around the world. Each reversal takes a thousand years or more to complete. " If this planet supposedly flies by every 3600 years and shifts the poles then we'd be seeing that in the rocks. Also, why would it shift the poles? They claim they shift to line up to Nibiru's magnetic field. Well, unless Nibiru's poles are flipping every time it flies by, we would already be aligned, right? Also, they claim some race of beings live on this planet. How the hell could the live on a planet that has such an enormously elliptical orbit? They'd be in such deep space at the far end of the orbit that the whole damn planet would freeze and then if it actually came through our solar system that close to the sun it would radically change the atmosphere to the other extreme. Maybe if the planet was populated by a supremely intelligent race of uber-tardigrades or something. These are just my initial thoughts after watching the video. I read a bit about Zecharia Sitchin, who is seems first started a lot of this and it's a very interesting story (great imagination), but I doubt any of it is real.

I like how it refers to us as "the lords". Damn right! Kneel before your LORDS!

Could one of our lovely Dutch members translate this? Wie herinnert zich nog anno 2007 de bespreking hun cd 'Been A Long Time Coming' ? Our Business Off The Street’. Blueswalker

It was here, but I had to delete the post because for some reason it was messing up the entire format of the thread. Magnificent Goldberg originally posted about the Jim Anderson / DIW sessions. Perhaps one of them will weigh in here.

I forgot about this. Doing it now. I got a cool email about a possible gig, then a call from a good friend, etc. I'm on it right now.

Since we finally got our version on mySQL upgraded, I'm going to remove that limitation (the three character limit). Try again in a few minutes.

I remember reading that article when it came out (and when I actually subscribed to Stereophile). Good interview.

Baseball Steroid Thread
Jim Alfredson replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
When ballplayers who are looked up to by millions of impressionable kids, Congress has an interest in looking at steroid use in the game. Spare me. Somehow I doubt Congress has taken such an interest in this because "of the children". -
Hope you guys have fun. Wish we could be there. I bet the show will be killer.

I think it is a shame that jazz radio is so limiting when it comes to run times.

As someone who doesn't care about baseball, why the fuck is Congress wasting our tax dollars on this bullshit? -
Redbook CD vs hi-res format - is there a difference?
Jim Alfredson replied to mmilovan's topic in Audio Talk
Why is SACD disappearing? Because much to the dismay of people who appreciate great sound, the general public doesn't really care about hi-fidelity. CDs are going the way of the dodo as well because the new thing is mp3s and downloads, a lossy compressed format that even compared to 16bit/44.1kHz sounds bad to acceptable (depending on the encoding rate). The biggest differences in bit rates and high resolution sample rates is the presence of low-level detail like reverb tails and also in the upper end, the "air" of a recording. Dynamic range is also extended. -
+/- 28vdc. I got these cards when there wasn't much interest in them for $40 a piece. Now you can't get anything Quad Eight related for under $600 a channel. So far they sound really good on anything. You mean print timecode to one track and let Cubase (I use Cubase instead of PT... same difference) follow that? Not a bad idea. I'll look into that. Right now I have some 499 and I'll run at 15ips. The machine came with 16 channels of DBX NR but I don't know if I'll use it or not. Even though it is not calibrated yet, I'm going to do some test recordings to it today with organissimo and just see how it sounds with that kind of material. I looked at the Clinton Recording website and wow... what a room! Studio A looks amazing. I assume you used one of the smaller rooms for the Terrason/Wilson date? The local studio here in town has a couple of things from the Columbia 30th St. studio including a Neumann M49 and boom arm. But nothing like having THE piano. That's amazing.

Jim, you'd appreciate this: Eight channels of vintage Quad Eight AM10 based mic preamps that I racked up. Transformer ins and outs, discrete 10 transistor op-amp design. They sound killer. My next goal is to DIY some Millennia style preamps. I also have some API-style that I need to get up and running after I swap out the pre-2520 style op-amp for something better (probably a Hardy 990c). And here's the Scully: Very simple machine; based on the old Ampex designs. No way to sync, unfortunately. But it is very stable and the line amp cards were made by Spectra Sonics and they sound great. Big ol' UTC transformers in there. Lots of flavor. I might track the next organissimo record directly to it; I haven't decided yet. It might be too "rock n' roll". But man, is it a beautiful beasty! I have that Terrason/Wilson side. I'll dig that out and give it a listen. I remember the piano sounding really nice on that one.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lZXs4pIC4vc Ha! Cool! The organist even copped a couple of my licks at the end of his solo! Check our original: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=illlK3qd_5k EDIT: He's actually taking part of the solo from this version (performed at the East Lansing Jazz Festival this summer): http://www.organissimo.org/mp3s/06_ELJF.mp3

I like my GPS because she talks to me during long drives on the freeway, when there are no turns for miles.
