My little sweetpea broke her elbow!
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, she is doing very well, thank you for asking. She is due to have the pins pulled out next Monday and then I guess they are just going to wrap it in gauze and send us on our way. They don't like to put casts on kids this young because it doubles the recovery time. So about three weeks after she broke it, she'll be out of all casts and pins. Seems incredible. She went back to daycare last week and was thrilled. She woke up last Monday morning (the last "daycare" day that we kept her home) and the first thing she said to my wife was that she missed her friends at daycare. So cute. My wife said when she got there her friend Ellie came up and gave her a huge hug and told Zora that she missed her. How sweet is that? -
Good point. Just to be safe, you should change your password to any online site that you use that requires one, even this one. Paypal, your bank, credit cards, email, etc. They might be able to lift those from the computer, although who knows if they are smart enough to do that (might just be a smash n' grab). However, why risk it?

Member #1 doesn't exist anymore. But it wouldn't be a good idea anyway. That's what I should've done when the board was first initialized. Alas, I was but a noob. The problem is the database uses the member number to connect all the posts to said member. I looked into how to re-connect posts when neveronfriday had me delete his old account. Now all the posts are there, but they are not connected to his new account. To do so would require some serious skillz (not to mention server load) and I am alas still but a noob when it comes to php and mysql.

I tried. I'm still #2. Damn.

I can no longer trust new USA vinyl production....
Jim Alfredson replied to wolff's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Well, mud slinging is part of freedom of expression, isn't it? If I edited and/or deleted every post that had name-calling in it, that would be censorship, wouldn't it? I count on the members being able to self-edit. I also count on them to work things out on their own. I very rarely feel the need to step in. So far I haven't run across any disparaging comments about organissimo on this board. I assume people are just being polite. -
A big to the post above.

I love the Beatles and I agree that Ringo was the perfect drummer for the band. Speaking of other drummers though, didn't Paul play some drums on some of the stuff in the later years?

<sigh> Why wasn't this handled via Private Messages? Interesting thread, though. Really shines a light on the true personalities of the involved board members. I think we're done. -
We'll be having dinner with Alison's side of the family. Her grandparents will be there and probably this will be their last Thanksgiving. They are both in very poor health, unfortunately. Afterwards we'll probably head to my dad's place to see my side of the family for a bit. Zora is indeed recovering well, but she is driving us up the wall. Since she broke her elbow, I think we've had one night where she's slept all the way through the night. In fact, she didn't go to bed tonight until 10am and then got up at midnight. Took me another 30 minutes to get her back to bed and just now I heard her again (it's almost 3am). I've been getting chunks of about 3 hours of sleep at a time, as has my wife. It's like we have a newborn!!! WTF?!!

I take breaks from music every so often, lasting up to a week. It helps clear my head and I find myself being very creative, especially after I break my "fast". I have also argued extensively on this forum that one of the reasons people do not value music as much as in the past is because we are inundated with it at every moment of our lives. In the grocery store, on the TV, at the dentist, in the book store, at the restaurant, etc. etc. Any time you go to any public place, there is some sort of music being piped in. I frequently ask if it can be turned down at restaurants and the waiter or waitress looks at me like I'm insane. I want to talk to my wife, not hear Hotel California for the 1 billionth time!!!

The favicon should be back to our custom organissimo one.

Joe does that a lot, too. Must be something about guitar players.

It's still small, it's still there, but they usually just have local solo pianists. A good friend of mine had a house gig there every Thursday night for awhile when I lived in AA. They had this soup during the winter months that was to die for... cannot remember the name, but it was a chowder and had winter sausage, noodles, barley, beans, and some other stuff in it. Very hearty and the perfect soup for winter. Come in from the cold, have a bowl of that soup, and listen to some nice piano. There's not a lot of jazz around AA anymore. But hey, we'll be there on Dec. 7th at Goodnight Gracie's!

Stanley T puts a smile on my face whenever and wherever I hear him. I don't care what folks think, he's my favorite tenor.

I have that book. Need to dig it out and revisit. Thanks for the reminder.

Birder Admits Killing Cat,
Jim Alfredson replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Socializing a kitten is much easier than a full grown adult cat. There's not much you can do, there. And if you have small kids, its definitely a no-no. -
Birder Admits Killing Cat,
Jim Alfredson replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
And if this fucker shot one of my cats(they are indoor cats, but they could always get out) He'd still eating from a tube.... I wouldn't expect any less of a totally logical response to the situation from you. [/sarcasm] To explain further, attacking someone with the intent to put them on a feeding tube is a proper response to that person killing your cat? So then you can go to jail for assault and battery or possibly even attempted murder? That sounds logical to me. -
Lou Donaldson and Dr. Lonnie Smith
Jim Alfredson replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Maybe Lonnie's tired of playing the same 10 songs. -
Hovering around $3.25 in Michigan. Fun!

I'm not really sure the word "fungible" applies here. As I understand the term, the above phrase can be interpreted as "an animal's life is not worth more than a human's", with which I absolutely agree. But I have a feeling you're trying to say the opposite. Which is silliness. -

no, not equal footing, but i do believe that non-human animals have more rights than those that human animals bestow upon them. But isn't the concept of "rights" a human one to begin with? There are no rights in nature.
