  1. Why does it matter if a musician or group has their "best kept work OOP" or not? They certainly are not getting any money from the trading of illegal files.
  2. If you don't wear that to the next organissimo show, I'm gonna kick your ass!
  3. I can move them to the Politics & Religion forum if you'd like.
  4. Wow, the OP threads certainly have a way of causing controversy, whether that controversy is based on OP himself or otherwise. In the spirit of the New Year and keeping things relatively on-track, although I don't necessarily agree with the concept of blasphemy, I've edited my post and deleted the posts concerning religious discussion, which belong in the Politics & Religion forum. Back on topic, I've watched that clip several times and its pretty darn amazing.
  5. I bet Joe can add some good ones here. For me? Depeche Mode. Twice. Ugh.
  6. Well, I've stated my opinions on this before. Part of me really relates to what Chuck posted. The other part of me realizes that the floodgates are open and there's not much we, as artists or producers, can do. I think I posted on the board how the new Root Doctor CD was available for free download on a file sharing forum only a few weeks after we got our first pressing run (and what really burns me about that is that it had to be put up by a DJ, since nobody else had the CD yet). As of now, the only thing I can do is look at the CD as a business card. If it helps get us more gigs and gets people to come to those gigs, then that's all I can hope for. I really don't expect to break even anymore. Of course, that doesn't help people like Chuck.
  7. When I messed up the database by accidentally deleting some member tables, we were having a problem with people re-registering and then finding other people's private messages in their account. This was due to some of the tables being deleted but not all and so the software was assigning new members to member numbers that were "half taken" so to speak. To curb this, I made the database start new members at number 10,000, so there would be no chance of someone getting someone else's account.
  8. What is the name of the episode? They might have a clip of it on YouTube, which would make things easier.
  9. Beards for FREEDOM!
  10. Good gracious!
  11. I completely understand why Jim resigned as a moderator. If you have a differing opinion than someone else and you're in a position of power, the kneejerk reaction from the person offended is that you are unfair because of your "power". I used to get that excuse once a week in the political forum from people who didn't agree with me. The "inner circle" thing is bullshit. This board is what YOU make of it. You don't like the tone of discussion regarding Oscar Peterson? Start a thread about your appreciation of him if it bothers you that much. Not to point the finger too specifically, but some of the very people complaining about the supposed "lack of respect" towards Oscar Peterson immediately following his death have done the very same thing on threads concerning others who have passed. And what is the point of having a discussion with someone if you can't express your dislikes? I have taken the claims of negativity very seriously and have looked and looked and looked in these past few weeks, but I honestly do not see it, especially compared to other forums that I visit. What I see is differing opinions and 99.9% of the time those opinions are expressed very respectfully towards the other posters. Again, not to get too specific, but clementine is blamed a lot for having strong opinions and being disrespectful, but most of the time I think it is a matter of people not getting his sense of humor. In fact, a lot of those that complain about civility are European, do not speak English as a first language, and probably mis-interpret many things (I had to explain to one European member who recently left that clem was not actually "slandering" him, but using a common English slang expression). Since we're dealing with words and cannot see each other's faces, the room for misinterpretation is great. Other than that my only explanation is that some people are being over-sensitive. I'll say it again; use the ignore function if you don't like somebody's posts and/or their posting style. There are people that sometimes post in the political forum who I never agree with and they just make me angry. As the board admin, I cannot ignore them (I need to see what is going on). So you know what I do? I just skip their post if it's in the political forum. If they post anywhere else, I read it. Amazing. Self-control. I love Oscar Peterson's playing and I'm not ashamed to admit it, even to people I respect here on this board. You don't like him? Bully for you! You do like him? Great! Keep listening. Nobody is forcing you to do anything, including reading this board. We're talking about a subjective artform and everybody has an opinion. If you can't handle an opinion that differs from yours or you can't handle a little heat, then by all means bow-out. Join a board where there is no controversy, no disagreements, and thus no real discussion. And then you can read whitewashed threads like this: Poster 1: I love Oscar Peterson! RIP! Poster 2: Yeah, me too! Poster 3: Night Train is awesome! Poster 4: Yep, what a great record. RIP Oscar! Poster 5: He was great. Poster 6: What a great pianist. Poster 7: The above post is great. Poster 8: You're great! Poster 9: Thanks! Have a great day! Sounds great, doesn't it?
  12. So sorry to hear this, Mark. Like other here, I agree that a change of scenery is probably the best you can do. Good luck!
  13. $4775. I wonder what I'm worth living?
  14. Poor sports bars. Why, there's only about 3000 of them in Lansing alone.
  15. According to the majority of the posts in this thread, you're still in that minority, Randy.
  16. Oh man! You're a cruel man, Alfredson. Yes I am. And I would just like to say that the lemon meringue pie in the photo was my first attempt and it turned out picture perfect. I'm also eating a piece right now, with some extra whipped cream on the side (just to be decadent) and it is really delicious!
  17. After Zora woke us up at 7am because she was yelling from her bedroom that she had to go potty (she didn't want to come out of her bedroom, in case Santa was still here), we opened presents. Since then, I've been working on these:
  18. “Oscar Peterson redefined swing for modern jazz pianists for the latter half of the 20th century up until today. I consider him the major influence that formed my roots in jazz piano playing. He mastered the balance between technique, hard blues grooving, and tenderness. You’ll find Oscar Peterson’s influence in the generations that came after him. No one will ever be able to take his place.” -- Herbie Hancock
  19. Cold duck time? Hey catesta, can I come for dinner tonight? For Christmas dinner tomorrow I'm making roast leg of lamb, cauliflower goat-cheese gratin, garlic mashed taters, brussels sprouts with pancetta & mushrooms, sausage apple stuffing, green beans & walnuts, baked acorn squash, and... some sort of cranberry chutney for the lamb. Yum!
  20. I've always loved OP. I don't understand why people rag on him. Was he an innovator? No, but who cares? His playing is always swinging, always enjoyable, always tasty. RIP Oscar Peterson. Thank you for the great music.
  21. I didn't grow up believing in Santa due to my parents. My dad always said he didn't want to lie to us and wanted us to always have faith in him that he was telling us the truth at all times. There's something to say for that. But my wife loves the concept, so Zora believes in Santa. I guess it's fun, but I do worry about what she'll think when she finds out he is not real.
  22. The problem with June is that it is the start of the summer, which is the best time of year for gigs. I already have one wedding and a festival (in Toronto) scheduled in June and I'm sure it will start to fill up even more as time goes on. If we can find a decent hotel with a conference room slightly outside Chicago, I'm sure they would give us a deal on rooms if we could guarantee a certain number of people coming.
  23. Bruce, I hope everything was a success! And yes, GO PISTONS!
  24. It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Between Your Legs Fried Green Tomatos Between Your Legs Footloose Between Your Legs The Magnificent Seven Between Your Legs Fatal Attraction Between Your Legs
  25. There are too many mediocre and downright BAD singers, especially in jazz, especially now. I love lyrics and singing as much or more than anyone, having been in choirs in high school and college and singing for the better part of my life. Words and music go together like paint and canvas. But bad singers, especially bad female singers, are as plentiful as bacteria.
