So, I know there are a lot of people here from or near NYC. Anyone coming to tonight's show at BB King's?
-
No, but there's no one better than Freeman Gilmore in the Lansing area.
-
Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River, MA tonight! 8pm showtime! Allen, thanks again for coming out. I don't think she's done a live album yet. That's a good idea. This configuration of the band is really kickin', imo.
-
I thought the show was lame the few times I saw it. He never even gets close to finishing anything he eats. So what's the point?
-
Allen, I was hoping to get a picture of the two of us together to prove we both exist. Glad you could make it out. It's a fun band and I'm having a great time with them.
-
Just met Allen at the club. Rolf came out on Wednesday. Meeting the two polar opposites of the board in one week (though to be fair, Rolf and I have met before)... will the world implode?!?!

I do need to get another fleece. Left mine at home, but it was falling apart anyway.

Greg Phillinganes Pimps the Korg SV-1 Stage Vintage Piano
Jim Alfredson replied to JSngry's topic in Musician's Forum
The Yamaha CP1 or CP5 are better. Check out my friend's demo of the various Rhodes sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLtwOkdsP4c And the acoustic piano is killer, too. Uses modeling instead of samples. -
Just got to Freeport. Man, that was a LONG drive. It seemed like no matter what we did, we got caught in horrendous traffic. But we're here. Looking forward to the show tomorrow (er... later today) at The Venue. Driving through Maine... I can't believe my wife went to college up here. It's just... weird.

What are you talking about?

Tonight opening for Roomful Of Blues at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, VA. Tomorrow's show in NJ has unfortunately been cancelled.
-
It was really cool, actually. The people were very sweet. We're live on Woodsongs on NPR tonight. http://www.woodsongs.com/webcast.php Wednesday in Alexandria VA at the Birchmere Music Hall. Hope to see some fellers there!

organissimo - ALIVE & KICKIN' - new live CD/DVD
Jim Alfredson replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Announcements
Put up a bunch of reviews of the new CD on the website: http://www.organissimo.org/press.htm Also there's another one that was just published on AAJ: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=36390 -
Dan, what records did you pick up? I have her two on Alligator including the newest, which is her strongest yet, imo. No, they aren't traditional blues. Maybe better to approach them without expectations. Joe, yes I am singing backing vocals in the band. A lot of backing vocals!

Bristol TN tonight at Machiavelli's. Hitting at 10pm. Here's a nice shot from our show at the Beale Street Music Festival last Sunday.

Thanks, Jeff! Here's a link to a video of Janiva and I doing a duo for the Memphis local morning show on WREG. It was early in the mornin'. But I think it came out nice. http://www.wreg.com/videobeta/b9599970-5eb3-4331-9560-bbc227fe3c42/Entertainment/Janiva-Magness And yes, I'm very happy and humbled that I have been getting some mention in the press. Here's a performance review from our show in Austin last week. http://www.austin360.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/music/entries/2010/04/27/live_review_janiva_magness_at.html?cxntfid=blogs_austin_music_source Just played Nashville tonight. On to Bristol TN tomorrow, Durham NC on Sunday, and we'll be broadcasting live on NPR's Woodsongs program on Monday. http://www.woodsongs.com/index.asp

Treme
Jim Alfredson replied to Lazaro Vega's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
He's my least favorite character on the show. He comes off as a wanna-be musician. One of those guys that talks a big game but can't back it up; somebody who's in love with the IDEA of being a musician rather than actually being one. Oh, and Sonny is pretty annoying too. -
Casio Privia PX-330. I'm not joking. I'm endorsed by Casio. I originally was seeking a Yamaha endorsement (I still am... I am a huge Yamaha fanboy) but Casio caught wind and came after me. I was very skeptical but the artist rep basically gave me a PX-330 to try without any strings attached. That's how confident he was that I'd like it. And I do. Great piano sound, great feeling weighted action and it's only 25lbs. I'm using it on the road right now with Janiva Magness and it's a lifesaver. Today we did a TV appearance in Memphis, just she and I, and I used the Privia and an amp. It sounded great, I was even able to do a simple split with a bass sound in the left hand for one tune. Worked fantastic. So far it's held up to the road just fine, even surviving me accidentally spilling a cup of water into it at the last bar gig. Go play one if you can. I think they retail for around $600. They are great boards.

It was great to meet you, Jeff. Still waiting for pics from Matthew. Sorry we didn't get to talk after the first set. I take it you enjoyed the show?
-
In Memphis until Friday, then heading to Nashville, Bristol, Durham, Lexington, Alexandria, and on up the East Coast! http://www.janivamagness.com/pages/news/news_main.php

Yes, let's just lock everything up
Jim Alfredson replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Who overreacted? The mod? I don't think he did. He deleted material he determined objectionable, which was well within his duty as a moderator. You may not agree that it was objectionable, but you're not a moderator. As the rules state, the mods have the power to determine what is and isn't objectionable content. I added two moderators to help out while I'm on the road. I don't have time to check in and worry about this stuff. I've been away from home for 18 days (with a short stop back home for a birthday and two organissimo gigs) and now I'll be out until the end of May, in a different city every day. I don't have the energy to run this place, so the five mods have my blessing to do the job. I picked people who I trust will be fair and I think they're doing a good job. Why does locking a thread always lead to some sort of "the mods are running rampant!!!! FREE SPEECH FREE SPEECH" farce? You guys enjoy a pretty unfettered experience here, able to post basically whatever you want on any thread you want, derailing things, posting "witty" one-liners, emoticons, etc. to your heart's content. Seriously; one thread was already closed on this subject, so what do you do? You start another one. So what does it really matter? Put things in perspective, please. -

Yes because there's nothing to discuss. I stand behind the action taken in the other thread. Read the rules, the mods have the final say in what is considered objectionable. There was a beef with how the edited post was labeled. That's been worked out in PM. End of story. Theres no abuse of power going on. Compare this forum with almost any other on the web and you'll realize that we are extremely relaxed around here. This is mountain being made of a mole hill. -
Allen you are full of shit. Does that mean I'm now libeling you as a toilet? Or worse a politician? Are we really that stupid? Calling an image pornographic is wildly different than calling the poster of the image a pornographer. Did you create the image? Obviously not, and no one claimed you did. So what's the real issue? The real issue is you take offense and having a moderator edit your post. Well, tough. As the rules clearly state, it is up to the moderators of the board to determine what constitutes porn and I trust their judgement.
