Was in Winters, CA last night at Palm's Playhouse. Tonight in Santa Rosa at The Last Saloon. And tomorrow at Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco.

Amazing what 7 years will do. I love YES now, especially Relayer, which I think is one of their most underrated record. I think my problem with them back in 2003 is that I tried to get into them a few years before that with Tales From Topographic Oceans... probably not a good idea. I want to pick up that DVD of them live in 1975 from the Queens Park Rangers Stadium. I've seen most of it on YouTube and it's pretty amazing. Anyone check out that BBC documentary Prog Rock Britannia? Pretty good, especially the early part, but then they skipped over a ton of bands.

Is it glue from the packaging? I had a couple others like that. I do have a limited number of over-runs. I'll send you one of those.

I'd like to mention that since this CD is paid for (which was my goal; to break even) that any orders will count as a "forum donation" for our 2010 fundraiser.
-
Very valid points. The other forum I mentioned deals with expensive musical equipment, so it's a bit of a different animal. Just food for thought.

Hey friends, It's been about a year since the last fundraiser, which netted around $1700 after Paypal fees. It costs $150 per month for our dedicated server plus an additional $70 per year for the chat software license and $100 per year for the forum software license. That equals a yearly cost of $1970. I know times are tough; anything you can spare will help. Please don't feel obligated but if you can help, please do. Send donations via Paypal to b3groover@hotmail.com. Checks and money orders can be made out to me and sent to: Jim Alfredson PO Box 16129 Lansing, MI 48901 Thank you!

Recently another board I post on frequently made a change to the rules governing the FOR SALE section. At first I thought the rules were a bit stringent, but now I see that they've worked extremely well and could be used as a model for here. Basically, the rules state that sellers cannot bump their own threads until at least five days have passed (and five days between bumps, too) and that all those interested in the wares should use the PM system and not post anything within the thread itself. Any sales / edits to the list of things for sale should be done by the original poster to the first post. So basically, if you look at that forum's FOR SALE section, it's just a series of threads with single posts, perhaps one or two "bump" posts for items that haven't sold. All transactions are handled privately. It works really well and lends to a very clean, streamlined forum. Each section of forums like these have to be handled differently. The politics forum is a pretty rough and tumble place. We're working on a new set of rules. Evan, I'm sorry you feel wronged, but I still stand behind Hans' actions, which I believe are consistent with the rules (written or not) of the board. It's a deleted post. It's not the end of the world. Thanks!

It has been an unspoken rule around here for a long time that commenting on the price of wares in the Offering / Looking forum is in bad taste. Imagine if you started a thread selling some rare CDs for $19 a pop and somebody came in and said "Damn, why can't I just buy them from you at $4.95? Why do you have to be so greedy?" I know that's not what you wrote, but such comments can easily be misconstrued. Its better to just refrain and if you must say something, do it via PM. By the way, PM stands for "private message", which is what such conversations should be (ie, private), unless one reaches an impasse at which I'd be more than happy to throw in my two cents. I'm not spending that much time on the board these days due to other commitments, so I really appreciate the work of my mods. They are doing a thankless job. I will state again that I have yet to find a better run board with more freedom than this one. I don't think its too much to ask to respect the few rules we do have in place.

Buying New Clothes? Make Sure To Wash Them!
Jim Alfredson replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I saw some mass of sentient matter exude mucus from one of it's orifices into a shirt hanging on the rack. No big loss though: the shirt was something a porch monkey would wear. Is that better? -
Bluesmith is a great side. Got it on vinyl. Not having any Verve Jimmy Smith is a crime.

It was mainly to spite a now banned member who camped out in the political forum. I could turn it off now, I suppose.

Posts in the political forum don't count.

The weird thing is, when I first saw this photo on FB I didn't believe it, so I did some quick Googling and the same photo was used in various news stories back in 2007. So is it real? I think so, but it happened some time ago, not just a few days ago as the current reports indicate.

Happy Birthday Jim!

Thanks, guys! Having a great day so far. Went to Sawyer's Gourmet Pancake House for breakfast (haven't been there since before Scarlett was born in October) with my wife and two kids (Zora is in school). Tonight I'll be playing Wii with Zora. Glad to be home for a few weeks. -
That's what I figured. That sound guy had no idea what he was doing. I usually have some extra earplugs with me. Hopefully when we come back to Boston it will be at a festival or at the very least a better sounding club. Just got done settin up at Warmdaddys. Gonna be a great time.

Why do blues guitarists play loud? Because the amps sound the best when they are cranked. That's why the guitarist in Janiva's band uses a 1948 Valco amp that's only 5 watts, which he had modified with an output (from the preamp) so he can then put it through a Fender Super Reverb to get a bit more volume. But the Valco is cranked and adds the tone. Wednesday night at the Regattabar was a blast. Kevin Bresnahan came out but was nowhere to be found after the show. Don't know if you stayed for the whole thing or not, my man. It was pretty loud in that tiny space. The acoustics in there are awful. You'd think after 25 years they'd do something to make it sound better. Last night at Gerald Veasley's JazzBase was a hoot. Tonight we're at Warmdaddy's in Philly! Same for tomorrow night. I know Ron S is coming out tomorrow. Anyone else?

In the 80's you couldn't give a Hammond away. The newest digital synths were in, even the previous generation of analog synths were out. It really was Joey DeFrancesco's singing to Columbia, thanks to his brief stint with Miles, that brought the Hammond in jazz back from the dead. -

Jimmy Smith is / was THE name on the Hammond. He could always work. Groove, not so much. A lot of the "lesser" guys had to add synths and other stuff to try to stay current which mostly backfired, mainly because their hearts weren't in it. And maybe he was just a pain in the ass to work with. -
Well, we can certainly be loud but I don't think we're too loud, and we have a wide dynamic range. I don't use earplugs with the band, something I would never think of doing with Root Doctor. Looking forward to seeing you again! It's been what... 5 years?

You realize that the Hammond organ was about as popular as the accordion in jazz in the mid-70s all through the 80s? -
All you NYC peeps officially suck. . Just finished a killer set at BB Kings and you missed it.
