  1. A nicer instrument doesn't make you a better musician, but it does make for a more enjoyable playing experience. Not having to fight a poorly made axe is one less thing to overcome. On the other hand, I can luxuriate in the sonorities of a well-made guitar for hours.
  2. Bummer!
  3. This looks like a good place for my question: BMG has two reissues of Wes Montgomery Incredible Jazz Guitar; one, I guess, is the original Riverside cd, and the other is the SACD. What's the better choice, sound-wise? Price doesn't really matter, as I can get the SACD for a steep discount. Thanks
  4. Have a great one, man! (How can you not--you're in Colorado!)
  5. Glad to see you back home safe, Al. All things considered, it was a minor miracle that you found your way to the restaurant for the hang. Yes, I hope we'll have better luck next year!
  6. Gotta have a lawn, don't I?
  7. I have relatives in Phoenix (and now, friends), but living in Colorado is a lifelong dream of mine, actually. Someday, maybe.
  8. One problem traditionally with jazz guitarists is a rather stiff way of phrasing. I've heard some older recordings were the guitar solo sounded like "plinka plinka plinka plinka...... " It would sound totally ridiculous for a horn player to play like that. I think Wes was one who made big strides in bringing the guitar up to where the other instruments already were in terms of modern jazz phrasing. The guitar is not naturally set up to function as a bebop instrument (the language is keyboard and horn-based), so it's a challenge to make it work.
  9. They tried to get her once already in Texas.
  10. Stefan--check the webpage for dates before you leave. Maybe there will be one you can make. RainyDay--individually, yes, but thus far, not as a group. Someday perhaps.
  11. That was a good rant from Christian.
  12. Yes... crap, what's his screen name... his avatar was a animated conductor's hand.. But didn't he say he was going to Japan? Do you know who I mean?
  13. Thanks. Wasn't hip to the shorthand.
  14. WOO HOO! Now, what about the other W. Michigan members: Nessa, Bill, Skid, Lazaro, et al?????
  15. Lunchtime Contingent Asexual Curse Cuckoo Optimism Boy, there's some good song titles here.
  16. At the risk of sounding stoopid, what's "K-2"?
  17. When I logged on, there was one: me!
  18. Hey! Where did everybody go???
  19. Any Chicago members got a pad we could crash in?
  20. Another vote for Power of Three. That's a great Jim Hall outing as well.
  21. undergroundagent, as well.
  22. My sentiments exactly! And BTW, playing with Organissimo is a gig that most definitely lets me be my(bad)self! B) I want to thank you falettin' me be mice elf, agin!
  23. My biggest complaint about gigs is that, thus far, they don't pay me enough to quit my day job. John Abercrombie once said that schlepping the gear is the worst part of gigs. Acoustics are make-or-break for me. I hate playing in rooms with bad acoustics. Can't hear shit, and what you can hear sounds like shit. And no matter what you do, it always seems too loud. Now we need a counter thread about what we love about playing gigs.
  24. I imagine your wife would like to know just who it is you've been spending all your free time with.
  25. MixMaster Noj! Jim and I had a lot of fun listening to the CD-Rs you sent us. Hey, who in the hell did "The Creeper"? That was nutty.
