  1. Obviously we are listening to different recordings. I've never heard of Blues Bash. Is that the album name?
  2. All these guys have my love and admiration. Bernstein is the most likely to be found in my cd player right now, but I just spent a couple hours listening to the Grant Green BN box set. It's all great stuff. As for Burrell, I agree, there's some nice stuff out there but he's not an especially exciting player. I'm loathe to put him down out of respect for his career though. I mean, who the hell am I? He's recorded like what, 80 albums as a leader??? But there have been times when it sounded like he was really struggling with the instrument.
  3. Well Paul, I guess that's your answer! Poor Grant...
  4. Did the guy really think you would take a pair of glasses after leaving your address???
  5. What the hell?? On the other hand, that write-up sounds more entertaining than the real thing, almost. If only they had gotten the web address correct. St. Vitus, could you send in a correction?
  6. Peter Bernstein got my vote. Nothing at all against the others, but I could listen to Peter with Sam Yahel or Larry Goldings all night.
  7. B3er is in the midst of a two week hiatus from all music. He said that he couldn't hear the music in his own mind; kept hearing everybody else's when he sat down at the organ. There are several Metheny albums that I've listened to to the point of having the enjoyment drop off a bit. Also re: Theo's charge of narcissism, Waiting for the Boogaloo Sisters is one I've heard a lot. :rsly:
  8. Yeah Jim! I'll get that design on my guitar too! We'll be the Death Metal organ trio. DEEEAAATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Not bad Jim. I was in the backseat with Jewel the other night. She was demure but ready to go! Unfortunately that got cut short too...
  10. I don't think I could ever be a collector -- I just don't have the mentality, agonizing as I do over all cd purchases: Do I really need this...should I be spending this money... Pretty much all of my conflicts about how I feel about music center around the fact that I call myself a musician. Seems like once you do that all these expectations arise. I have to keep in touch with the fan in me or else the joy can go out of listening to (and playing) music. BTW, 3000 cds X $13=$39,000!!!!
  11. There's like four of them in Lansing alone. Most people I know hate going to Meijer's, because it's soooo huge that it takes much longer to shop, and it's just a bit depressing overall, but you simply can't go a week without setting foot in one, because they have everything. Actually I think I could stay out longer than that, but my wife always wants food items that only they have.
  12. Some Sco Blue Notes: Grace Under Pressure Time On My Hands and not on BN, but what the hell: Blue Matter Shinola
  13. Then you must have this! One of my favorite albums.
  14. Ladies and Gents, we have a winner!

    Bix Beiderbecke

Heard a report on ATC yesterday about a new album by Geoff Muldaur called Private Astronomy, featuring the music of Bix. Sounded really good to me.
  16. Lately our local Meijer's grocery store has started using smooth jazz background musak. I heard a psuedo-funk version of Naima that made my blood curdle. On the other hand, both Jim and I have heard a tune called "The Grinning Song" from Big Stuff, by Larry Goldings while grocery shopping in different stores. I'm sure we were the only ones in the place who knew what it was.
  17. Is it? I know it looks like one, but I never tried to see it. Interesting.
  18. Hold on there! I didn't even know those guys were on tour! Jim and I saw them when they were at the Chicago Theater a couple of years ago. It must have been the same show you saw (if indeed it was in Chicago where you saw them). Yeah man -- we were blown away. That's a beautiful theater too. We came back the next year to see Alison Krauss, another great show.
  19. No problem for me; until this thread I had never heard of Infinite Search. I'm looking forward to aquiring both albums. BTW Bev, I enjoy those Remember Shakti cds a lot. The Wish, from the first set, is probably my favorite Mclaughlin solo of all time.
  20. Pinching a loaf Growing a monkey's tail ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sorry CSeries, I don't read in the jon.
  21. Didn't mean to bust your chops, buddy. B) Yeah I like Ron's solo on Blake's Shake too. I love that out-leaning line he plays right after he holds that high note in the last chorus. That was actually a difficult tune in the studio; Ron claimed it was kicking his ass. Yeah, right! Thanks again for the compliments.
  22. I wish I hadn't gotten rid of Live at the Royal Festival Hall: John Mclaughlin Trio. I saw a re-release of it recently on another label with some crazy packaging and a price of over $20. Also the BN Joe Henderson box set. Maybe Bad Brains' I against I. Not too much besides that though.
