  1. The story behind the essay is perhaps more interesting than the essay itself. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Re: soccer moms, the new demographic being courted by politicians these days are "Nascar dads"!!!
  2. Wow Red! Looks like you came to the right place with someone like AfricaBrass on board! (BTW Jeff- how's it going? I haven't been seeing as much of you lately.)
  3. Thanks Big Al. Are you sure you meant YDWTDT? Perhaps I misunderstood your post, but Blake didn't play on that tune. In any case, I appreciate the favorable comparisons. Thanks for listening man!
  4. Here's a short article I found that briefly discusses the issue.
  5. I'm pretty sure the question was referring to the fingerboard. Maple is a much softer wood than either rosewood or walnut, so I would imagine the difference in feel and perhaps sound would be more pronounced. But I'm curious about this now...
  6. Interesting question. I'm pretty sure that every guitar I've ever owned had a rosewood neck, but I've never really looked into why. Was there a price difference?
  7. It could be worse: our dogs would occasionally come back to us with porcupine quills in their mouths. My dad pulled 'em out with pliers. OUCH!
  8. I'm suprised to see it back so soon, too. I logged on just before bed last night, saw that freaky screen and immediately called Jim, who was in Chicago at the time. He couldn't do anything about it from there except call the server guy. I don't know what happened after that, but I'm glad to know that it wasn't a personal attact on us at least. Unless those boys are pissed that we don't have a Brazilian jazz forum...
  9. One more in the annals of misguided musical efforts of the last quarter century.
  10. When it came down to it, there just wasn't enough time to handle the logistics of putting together even a short tour. These things are normally booked 8 months to a year ahead of time, and we had 5 months at the most, which dwindled rather quickly. So basically we're just doing a hit and run at the Clearwater Beach jazz festival Oct. 18th. Maybe next year.
  11. You'll find that on the inside cover. It was the only track not recorded at Glenn Brown Productions.
  12. That's an affirmative. And thank you for the parenthetical clarification. Life Wish is a very special tune for me personally. I'm so glad to see that other people are enjoying it as well.
  13. I'll say right off that I don't know much more than you, but I've heard it said that there are "hard" and "soft" forms of martial arts. Karate is hard, Akido is soft. There are also "internal" martial arts, like qigong. I practice chi-lel qigong almost everyday and get a lot out of it. The closest thing to it out of those forms you mentioned would be tai chi. If you're interested, type chilel into a search engine and it should take you to the official site, where they list teachers around the country. Sorry I can't be of more help.
  14. I'll be damned, Jim -- I have that one! And furthermore, you gave it to me for my birthday a couple years ago! Thanks dude!
  15. I like both albums. Footprints Live sat on the rack for a year after I got it from BMG, and I finally gave it a listen a few months ago after getting on that Weather Report kick. Like you, Sundog, I found it very compelling. You can get Alegria from BMG as well.
  16. Seeing new posts from members in this thread has to be my favorite way to start the day. Thanks guys! :rsmile:
  17. I wasn't sure if you were aware of our ongoing BMG Thread. Don't know if it's the cure for laziness either, since it's gotten pretty big.
  18. BYOB: bring your own Brown.
  19. Hey that's cool, I wasn't bustin' your chops; just hadn't seen you post much about guitarists in the past, and was hoping that you weren't one of those jazz guys that hate the guitar in jazz! Glad to see that's not the case.
  20. Just out of curiosity Jim, where do you turn for jazz guitar?
  21. Damn! I'd go for the Rollins and the Crimson! The Bridge especially; I've been wanting that one for a long time too, due to the presence of Jim Hall.
  22. Our local news did much the same thing, and I had the same reaction as you.
  23. I'm not sure that's true. Women can becomes fanatical collectors as well. A friend of mine had a stepmom who had just cases and cases of china teacups. Why? No one knew. And what about those beanie babies that people (mostly women) were collecting just a few years ago? Personally, I struggle with the idea of dedicating my life to "just" music. I'm also very much interested in nature, and have often wished I could work in some job relating to that. There's only so many hours in the day though.
  24. Arno, if I ever find out you're putting me on... B)
