  1. (I know; we make that joke every year.) :rsmile: Live it up, my friend!
  2. I got up an hour late today.

That being the case, why don't you apologize for mis-reading Chuck's initial post? After all, it was you who went "ape-shit", not he.
  4. F#
  5. B major triad: B, D#, F I'm personally not a big fan of geometric shapes in place of chord names.
  6. Not that bad here, but I am officially tired of the cold.
  7. They'll be back. They always come back. This place is the Hotel California. I wish Deep (Danny D'Imperio) could come back.. Sure miss his stories and ascerbic and sometimes outrageous wit.. Be careful what you wish for.

Jesus! I thought bluenote82's departure would put an end to this kind of nonsense.
  9. Ever wake up laughing? I woke up this morning and remembered this little nugget: I was on the set of a Regis-like tv show which was in the process of taping. Mel Torme was a frequent guest, or maybe a co-host, and here today he was dressed up like some wino santa claus, beard and all. Then he started singing, and singing into the camera. I "became" the camera, so he was singing directly to me from just a foot away, with big bulging eyes and that scraggly beard. The song he was singing? ... Darn that dream I dream each night ...

I'm gonna tell her you said that.
  11. I replied to the subject matter on the first and second pages. Ted Poor on drums, Bill Frisell on guitar, Stomu Takeishi on ebass. It's Mostly Residual was, for me, one of the best releases I heard for that year (which admittedly leaves out a hell of a lot). The concert "made a significant impression" on me, for sure. Great band, excellent compositions, unique sound.
  12. Just underneath that box is a link which reads "How to find examples". Click on that, and you'll get a series of different chord progressions. Underneath those are links for search results.
  13. Let's see... Made friendships with people I would never have met otherwise Learned about music (and ways of thinking about and listening to music) I might not have encountered on my own Traveled to and played gigs in Philadelphia and Tel Aviv as a direct result of the efforts of board members Had a friendly face to meet us at just about every stop on the east coast we played a couple of years ago, as well as in the midwest And not least, met my girlfriend here And I'm probably forgetting other good stuff. Yeah, I dig the forum.
  14. Looks like a nice resource to me.
  15. :rsmile: Freezeframe on the flamenco dancer - holy smokes!
  16. It's Bill Frisell in 'classic' mode, so there you go. If you click through to the linked thread, you will see there what I posted about the concert (sans Frisell), which pretty much sums up what I feel/think about Vu's music.
  17. BTW, based on your expressed opinions about free, fusion, et al., I don't think you're going to like this album that much. There are some tunes with rock rhythms and lots of "free" sections. edit: could be wrong, though - let us know what you think.
  18. Strange thread. Most of the time, people seek opinions before they make a purchase, or start a discussion after they've listened to the music.
  19. Earlier thread I think it's a beautiful album.
  20. I'm not advocating that critics just be cheerleaders, and I agree with your post. It's just the idea that was expressed which goes, "I won't be taken seriously if I don't write something negative here." I don't know how often that plays out in the "real world".
  21. Just to clarify, my comment about McDonough was in answer to bluenote82's assertion that if he doesn't write negative reviews, no one will take him seriously. I'm sure that was obvious, but now the quote is jumping pages out of that context. It can stand alone, however. -_-
  22. I tend not to take John McDonough seriously.
  23. Here too. It's about 1974. Yeah, baby! Well, that puts us smack dab in the roaring 20's!
  24. That is too fucking funny... [my boldface] DM's been on a bit of a roll lately, I have to admit!
  25. Great stuff, Jon. Hard to pick a favorite, but "Koi" really caught my eye.
