  1. Wishing all the best, to the best!
  2. Wow - at the opposite extreme from the Is Music Essential thread. Classical, too? My moods definitely color my perceptions of and responses to recorded music. I'd guess that's a big part of your being on the outs with the whole thing. Wouldn't hurt to take a break, go outside, walk in the sun and listen to the birds. They're full of surprises. Wind through trees is another sound that rarely fails to move me this time of year. Also wind chimes, distant traffic, water over stones, night sounds, etc., etc., etc. I guess what I'm trying to suggest is that, although you are having negative emotional responses to recorded music at this point in your life, don't forget that there is still great pleasure to be had by the sheer act of deep, relaxed, and attentive listening to whatever is happening around you at any given moment. It's also a good way to forget yourself for a while. Get lost in found sound. You might have to drive somewhere to find a good listening spot but it's worth the effort.
  3. Most definitely!
  4. Yes for me as well. Wouldn't want to be stuck with my mostly repetitious thoughts without the respite that music provides. There are other rewards and pleasures as well, all very important.
  5. Solo guitar was what I was thinking. Some voicings don't work, but others sound incredibly rich.
  6. http://youtube.com/watch?v=mKxwRL2dXQ4 A golden oldie from Inside Edition.
  7. I can never quite tell where Brooks is coming from. Now he's a budding mystic? I do agree with the gist of the piece.
  8. The service today was a meaningful one. Music included two of his recorded songs, along with our intro to Tenderly, which I had played on his guitar in the studio. Jim read to us a very beautiful tribute that he had written for his father. Fit for a king! Literally not a dry eye in the house. One of Jim's sisters read a wonderfully affirmative entry from their father's blog (The Pilgrim Traveler); a fitting close.
  9. Came very close to buying a baritone guitar last year. I think it was a Tacoma. Limited application, and some serious finger stretching (even with my long fingers), but they sure do sound cool.
  10. I'm very thankful I had the priviledge of getting to know him to the extent I did. Always, without exception, enjoyed his company and conversations. I won't be feeling this loss as keenly as Jim or his family, but will I feel it, certainly. Also glad he was able to find happiness in the decade left to him after his wife passed. And Jim, let me say now what I was too dumbfounded to say earlier on the phone: I love you and your family as my own; please feel free to call on me for anything over the coming days and weeks. Though, I think I may go north to visit with my parents tomorrow...
  11. Oh man. I had a piece of chocolate ganache from a local organic deli that was so goddam good. Orgasmically good.
  12. Montreal can top that one! JOE PISCOPO SALUTES FRANK SINATRA WITH LIVE JAZZ ORCHESTRA CONDUCTED BY JOE MUCCIOLI From 1980 to 1985, American comedian and singer Joe Piscopo cracked up Saturday Night Live viewers with his famed impersonations of Frank Sinatra-who apparently enjoyed the send-ups himself. Today, Piscopo pays full tribute to his idol, with the unmistakable voice, the gestures and mannerisms, and an excellent group turning out classics including "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Night and Day", "Come Fly With Me", "It's Witchcraft" and "That Old Black Magic". Welcome back to the glory days of the Rat Pack. Frank and funny!

  14. That's a big 'un. We'll probably be seeing more of this type of thing throughout the west. Lots of old mines in places like Colorado waiting to be filled in with the ground above them.
  15. I really need to take a trip to the Nessa residence this summer for a tour through some of this stuff.
  16. Somebody help the woman!! Looking forward to this; I'm ready for another dose of MM.
  17. For some odd reason, I totally dig that cover.
  18. Hell, you're the man with all the gigs - let us open for you.
  19. That's funny! :rsmile:
  20. Are there this many guffaws in the funny rat thread?
