  1. See you in T.C. Johnny E!
  2. http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/03/...usi-photography The article is about "Animal Minds". I just can't get over how soulful these portraits are.
  3. Cheeky crew there!
  4. Hey Bill! Nice of you to come back around.
  5. There are few things more annoying to me than when someone who has a problem with the fact that you strongly dissagree with how they are behaving or what they (or someone they support, say, G.W. Bush, for example) are saying tells you that you are "hateful".
  6. You are now entering the DEEP zone.
  7. According to Grove and AMG, it was in or around 1943 which would make him 19 or 20 with the 1923 D.O.B. Seems late but Wes always was kind of a late bloomer. That's what I thought... kind of disconcerting, actually.
  8. How old was he when he started playing guitar?
  9. That photo (and a few others) has been on this board already. Isn't he a friend of a member (Jim Dye or someone) who was in the process of cutting his long hair off?
  10. The Planet From Outer Space!
  11. p.s., you should have used the subject of this thread for an Album of the Month!
  12. Good album. I didn't know there was any controversy about it. Yeah man - I love what he did on Cuong's album!
  13. I'll try to get back on topic... I was a bit surprised that I didn't post in this thread first time around. Different circumstances bring out different thoughts/actions/reactions. In performance I'm often monitoring my internal state to stay relaxed. Tension is a problem; it can really slow down your responses. My focus can shift from listening "within" to paying more attention to what my bandmates are up to. One issue that I have yet to overcome is when playing large outdoor festivals, or perhaps this happens in theaters as well. It seems that I often feel drained after about the halfway mark in the show. The difference seems to be just the fact of us being on a stage, under lights, with an audience sitting and listening. I find it very easy to relax and let the flow happen when the music is in a more social environment. Maybe I just need to go through those situations more often, and look for a tactic of some sort. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?
  14. I beg to differ.
  15. It kinda bugs me usually, but there's usually something of interest. I thought Acoustic Guitar magazine was great when if first came out, but something seems to have changed.
  16. Why do you hate me so bad Chuck? What have I done to you? OMG it's JazzKat! Sorry. You brought back some old board memories. If Chuck uses a smiley, I'd say he's not hating.
  17. Just got out of rehearsal and there it was. Perfectly lovely. Almost mystical.
  18. Are you kidding? It's going great! Got a rehearsal with my band tonight, gigs are starting to get lined up, and we do nothing but 100% original jazz music. Recording a CD this summer. The music is already getting notice on the internet. Meanwhile I'm still working as a freelance musician, the money is good, the wife is lovely and we're both excellent cooks. Obama's won 10 in a row. Life is wonderful. You? That's what I'm talkin' about!
  19. Well, that's one way to (not) look at it. Hey Joe! How ya doin? Good to see you. Can you believe those people over at AAJ? Good to see you! Keep up the good work in the musician forum - those one-liners are killin' me!
  20. Well, that's one way to (not) look at it.
  21. Not cool, not warning us in advance that link would launch some godawful Dave Koz music. Believe it or not, I didn't think that little clip sounded too bad. Nice pocket. I get the feeling, though, that I don't need to hear any more of the tune than that.
  22. That was soooooooooooo.... nerdy. You know you wanted to make Troi's toes curl.
  23. I'll have my quintet at Music Hall in Detroit, May 23-24. Maybe see you guys there? Thanks for the heads up - I'll put it on the calender.

  25. Got a copy of Hal's book "Forward Motion" this last week. I give it a very high rating (although the proofreader gets low marks). I've been working out of it myself as well as bringing the material in for my students. Lots of small ideas with big implications, very clearly presented.
