  1. First "organ", now "bone". What's up with Jim's fixation.
  2. Glad to hear the positive words.
  3. Ever try these guys? Roma Bakery Deli & Fine Foods 428 North Cedar Street Lansing, MI 48912 I've driven by that place a hundred times, but have never stopped in.
  4. Here's what ya do if you have a post that you just can't live without because it's just that good: 1) Copy your post. 2) Paste to a word document. 3) Save to computer. 4) Back up to CD. 5) File in fireproof safe. 6) Refer to as necessary to repost in future which will not be in the near future; probably greater than 5 years from now, but it never hurts to be prepared. There you go... Sarcasm indeed not intended, but read as you will... Edited to say thanks to Jim A. for all of the hard work he's done since the board's inception and especially over the past week. I think you should take the above precautions with this post.

I think that, ideally, it's the content that presents itself to the artist first, who then must strive to master the techniques required to adequately express that content. Technique without content is an empty gesture; content without technique is a vision unrealized.
  6. Going back to when I was about 13, I heard a couple of jazz tunes on an Andy Stateman record called "Flatbush Waltz" (on Rounder) that put a hook in me. I thought the guitar solos were perfect.
  7. Same here, albeit almost 30 years later.

Dreams So Real? I like that one quite a bit.
  9. The take-home line: It’s harder to become overrated, because that means people had to think you were awesome before they thought you sucked.
  10. A quintessential organ trio tune.
  11. Not my favorite tune by Chick, but it is kinda nice to play on.
  12. Hotter than July!
  13. Yes! Bad review from Spiderman, though:
  14. Good stuff, guys. Made me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPVvbDaX4c0
  15. Actually, if I play, it will probably be Sunday w/ Gerald Wilson. Or so I've been told.
  16. I've been immersed in Rodney's sound over the last couple of weeks, having learned pretty much everything on the new Rodney Whitaker/Carl Allen CD "Get Ready", in preparation for the mini-tour I did with them. What he played sounded better and better to my ears the more I heard it. Damn good player.
  17. Ah, I misread your post. I thought, "cash for a tele" meant that you sold one. Cool, man!
  18. So you're getting the Gibson? I want to see that thing the next time I'm in town.
  19. Both of these statements were addressed to me; the first at Elderly Instruments: "What kind of pick to you use? ... You can't play jazz with that pick!" and at a Wherehouse Records years ago, as I was buying a Mingus CD, the girl behind the counter, making a reference to the recent Hal Wilner release... "I have weird nightmares!"
  20. So now you're going to show up a couple of choruses into the first tune? It's the new "right on time."
  21. Thanks everybody, for the compliments. This has been a very fun week, and also quite the learning experience!
  22. Up! Everyone can hear us tonight performing on Lazaro Vega's show at Blue Lake Public Radio. http://www.bluelake.org/radio.html
