  1. That was from the monks point of view
  2. About 3 miles from my house lies an old Carthusian monastery. On a cold, damp Autumn day this is what it looks like:
  3. Sorry to ressurect this thread but as I type my wife is watching Sin City in the living room. I had to let it pass about 10 minutes ago. Granted, it's all very clever, production wise, but as a non-comic-book-geek I find it a bit self indulgent. And that's coming from a jazz fan
  4. Excellent!
  5. One of the first records I bought, jazz that is, due to Dolphy's presence. I remember hearing the first tune and thinking "this is so familiar and so perfect", like Mike said, small group writing and arranging at it's best but also epitomising to an extent what 'modern' jazz should actually sound like. It's going on in a minute when Bill's finished at the Vanguard
  6. RIDE TO LIVE LIVE TO RIDE ← ← I thought that was something to doze off on
  7. Yes but I'll be putting my Campag groupset onto it with Mavic Ksyrium SSC wheels.
  8. Me too! But I do love cleaning them. This is my umpteenth frame in the last 15 years; they tend to break around the rear stays or in the case of my present Bianchi, bottom bracket. So I thought Ti is the way to go. As for sleet, I have another bike for that. You out today Bebop? ← And very nice scenery too
  9. From Caiman, arrived today.
  10. well..next Friday it is.
  11. What the man said And a healthy dose of Stan at his best; The Roost Sessions with Al Haig especially or Jazz Samba Encore!
  12. Have a very good day Chris.
  13. I've been photographing hot chicks all day in the cold, abseiling of a high, glass art gallery. But I didn't notice the temperature...
  14. Arrived from eBay this morning.
  15. Ever worry about your wife cheating? For crying out loud
  16. From eBay for a deep sea diver.
  17. half a century........wow...that's old dude..... have a very good year John! Congratulations.
  18. Thanks fellas. I have quite frequent lay offs from the sax; maybe every year or so playing an hour or more each day then a year of zilch. Each time I pick it back up, the head remembers, the fingers sort of remember, the theory bit comes back in a matter of days but the stamina around my mouth.....that always takes time. I have the breath support --- possibly down to riding my bike every day --- but it's applying it! Actually I was thinking back and , apart from 2 weeks in January, the last time I played in earnest was July 19th. 2004 , with a local guitarist. We both love the bossa nova stuff and played for a good two hours of Jobim material. Quite well in fact. I'll try and get that sort of form back. Plus a bit more.
  19. I spoke too soon
  20. having had these two on heavy rotation for a good month or so now, I've finally gotten my sax down from on top of the wardrobe. And played it, for the first time in ...phew....7 or 8 months. 20 minutes today, tomorrow? Who knows.
  21. Shouldn't that be Cannonball for Somethin' Else
  22. just hijacking briefly, can we use this for a caption competition one day Johnny?
  23. Ronnie Matthews on Freddie Hubbard's Breaking Point, mainly for his comping and solo on Mirrors.
  24. Ron Carter on Miles Smiles, or anyone on Miles Smiles for that matter! George Coleman on err......either My Funny Valentine or House Party where he's on alto. Help me decide that one. Mal Waldron on Dolphy's first Five Spot disc; even with that piano he kills me on 'Bee Vamp'.
