Here is another article where Pat talks about Monte Muza and how Monte turned him on to the work of Herbie: http://www.jazzkc.org/issues/2003-02/guitarandkcjazz.html For you blues buffs, Monte was also a sideman for Albert Collins in LA in the late 60s ...

Here's an interview with Pat from 1995, where he mentions Monte Muza. Probably one you've read, Eric, since it's from the local Kansas City jazz mag, JAM. Link: JAM talks with the Grammy-winning guitarist about KC roots, global notoriety, and jazz: past, present and future. I think the interviewer is probably Pat's brother Mike (who is a trumpet-player), especially judging from the last question in the interview. Pat was the editor of JAM Magazine for many years, and he was usually the one who did all the long-form interviews. Also... Link: Another Metheny interview that mentions Monte Muza. This one appears to be from 1999 or so. COOL, RT!!! Do you know Monte? Ever heard him play? He is a very nice guy.

yep, I would agree I live in KC and have seen him play around town over the years ... talk about the joy of the music coming out of this guy ... music aside, that is reason enough to see him

I have Expansions, Extensions, and Asante on disc, but haven't ever heard Cosmos (well, other than the three or so tunes that were bonus tracks on Asante). Can anybody with the LP's provide the timings for all the Cosmos tracks?? I'd like to add up all the time for everything, and see what's left over -- in terms of the potential for additional unreleased material. I've got the most recent "Complete BN Discography" if anybody needs me to type up any session info -- including the Cosmos session(s?). (But there isn't any timing info in the discography.) Thanks!! not in running order, but: Asian Lullaby - 7:24 Hope - 14:14 Forbidden Land - 13:50 Planet X (an early cousin of Rated X - 7:40 Shaken, But not Forsaken (from the soundtrack to a scrapped Bond movie) - 11:30 Vibration Blues (was left off the Deep Throat soundtrack) - 8:40 Song for My Lady - 7:30 Cosmos - 9:00

I am from KC and was hoping he would have mentioned a local guitarist, Monte Muza, who was an early mentor to Pat. Both Pat and Bobby Watson have previously cited Monte as an early source of guidance. BTW, for any of you KC-ers reading theis, Monte can play his butt off, esp if you happen to like that "Wes" guy

from my "oops, I f'ing bought it twice" (a/k/a CRS*) pile (predictably, all still sealed): Kenny Burrell - Blue Muse Stan Getz & JJ Johnson - At the Opera House -gone ejp Bud Powell - Parisian Thoroughfares - gone PeteB Clifford Jordan - Mosaic - gone RT Jimmy Smith - Cool Blues Donald Byrd - Slow Drag Hank Mobley - High Voltage (the brand spanking new version - don't ask) - gone aggie87 Miles - My Funny Valentine (I said don't ask) Max two per household. Offer may be void in some blue states. Just kidding * Can't remember sh*t -
not by a long shot - had a lot of this stuff on prior issues (domestic/Japan) unless it is a favorite/favorite/favorite session, I pass better to spend the $ on stuff I don't own in any format

In a little while ... 306

WTF??? Rooster, shame on you. Get it now. I want to hear you gush By coincidence I pulled this out the other day. It is a keeper, reminds me a bit of Black Fire (probably due to instrumentation) and Andrew!!! as mentioned above. Relatively easy to digest Hill, not that there is anything wrong with "hard to digest" Hill

...same thing on the new Groove Holmes out on Water; about 36 minutes....bummer! I didn't know Water had a new Groove Holmes reissue. Which one is it? I think this is it: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...yle=music&Bab=E Oddly, my copy from the Bastards is on Warners, I think. Must be an import ...

up ... Does it compare to Moon Rappin'?

The songs of course are nothing new - was curious about the Cuscuna interview with RVG ...

damn straight on all points Bol is not saying the guy is scum of the earth. He is saying that the guy does not live up to the same standards the rest of us do. I dare say that most of us bend over backwards to make sure trades work out OK. Life is too short to put up with folks who just want to jack around or are not willing to take some responsibility.
-
Yeah, I was there one time when a guy was selling some Hank Mobley Japanese lps. For some reason they didn't want the one with Donald Byrd and Lee Morgan, so I made the guy an offer on the spot. Let me repeat - JRM did not want it. Needless to say I learned a lesson that day ... I think (I later followed the guy down the street and bought good ole' 1540 from him on the corner)

yep ...

Seconds on several of the above: Crazy for You (the Gershwin material on Red Baron) Power Trio on Novus Beyond Expectations on Reservoir I also like Some Other Time on Evidence. All of these are trios. I have maybe 10 Hicks trio CDs, all of which are enjoyable. These are just the cream of the crop.

I plan to sell my email notification on ebay, but wanted to offer it here first ... -
Yes as well. Played as a kid and in a couple of adult leagues since. I think it is a great sport to play and watch in person, but I understand that not everyone feels that way. Apparently the players and owners do not share this understanding.
