  1. damn straight on all points Bol is not saying the guy is scum of the earth. He is saying that the guy does not live up to the same standards the rest of us do. I dare say that most of us bend over backwards to make sure trades work out OK. Life is too short to put up with folks who just want to jack around or are not willing to take some responsibility.
  2. Yeah, I was there one time when a guy was selling some Hank Mobley Japanese lps. For some reason they didn't want the one with Donald Byrd and Lee Morgan, so I made the guy an offer on the spot. Let me repeat - JRM did not want it. Needless to say I learned a lesson that day ... I think (I later followed the guy down the street and bought good ole' 1540 from him on the corner)
  3. Seconds on several of the above: Crazy for You (the Gershwin material on Red Baron) Power Trio on Novus Beyond Expectations on Reservoir I also like Some Other Time on Evidence. All of these are trios. I have maybe 10 Hicks trio CDs, all of which are enjoyable. These are just the cream of the crop.
  4. I appear to have been shut out here in KC, for the day anyway The blow was cushioned by the arrival of a sweet used copy of this however:
  5. ah, the possibilities ... btw, be careful, very careful, when doing a Google image search for "whipped" ...
  6. I think Fly is a great record, regardless of genre.
  7. I plan to sell my email notification on ebay, but wanted to offer it here first ...
  8. Yes as well. Played as a kid and in a couple of adult leagues since. I think it is a great sport to play and watch in person, but I understand that not everyone feels that way. Apparently the players and owners do not share this understanding.
  9. I received an email this am saying that it is shipping
  10. Just received this email: http://www.cdcabinet.com/esale25.htm
  11. I bought my girlfriend a pair of Paradigm bookshelf speakers that ran about $250 and they sound great. Avoid Best Buy like the plauge.
  12. Yes. Well put, and perhaps the reason why I think this movie is a small triumph of sorts. Agree, my kids had been bugging me for weeks before this came to Blockbuster to rent it. I read some reviews which generally seemed to describe it as a sad look at a dysfunctional family ... But my kids were right ... it is fun and triumphant ... with virtually no reliance on fart jokes
  13. But, it looks like hardbopjazz is correct -- the rules are different when you're talking about a home improvement loan. If I understand this one correctly, you can write off the interest on the loan, but not the actual costs of the improvements. This is correct. Capital improvements add to your basis (i.e. original cost), so they reduce future taxes that you might have to pay on the sale of your home.
  14. I really enjoyed it - was turned on to it by my 4th grader. It almost feels old fashioned in a way. Very charming, very funny!
  15. Thanks!
  16. Anyone care to recommend 3-4 tracks for sampling at itunes?
  17. don't know, but I think Ravi talks about this as one of his "current projects" in the latest issue of JazzTimes (which has a shelf-life of about two hours in my house, surprised I caught that much) ...
  18. Cadence has it:

or you may not want to share

    iPod

You can run two iPods on one version of iTunes. Just tell it which songs you want to update versus updating the whole thing. Another alternative - set up two user ids/log-ons in Windows, one for you and one for your son. Each user has their own version of iTunes and songs. This way is a bit cleaner.
  21. iTunes has the Kenny Wheeler lp/cd/whatever for $7.92. Has anyone seen it online for a comparable price?
  22. yeah, but who would buy stuff off their web site? Have you seen all the out of print titles they offer on iTunes? I think that is very innovative and they are priced right ($9.99 or less). You can download iTunes for free - no need to buy a pesky iPod.
  23. Brandon, I had no idea ... I am going to check that out when I have time. I knew Dick when I was at KU, had him for a couple of classes, made contact with him a couple times post-graduation. More than anyone else, Dick fostered my interest in jazz. Share more about the archive or PM me when you have a chance. Eric PS - I picked tobacco two summers ... PSS - Just walked by Murphy on Sat after watching the Hawks spank the Horns
  24. Has all of this material been issued on domestic CD? Thanks
