  1. Well, I am sure I will want to delete this post, (Deus already seems to have regrets! ) but what the heck, I could be making it up, yeah, that is what I will say in the future.... Pretty damn dull. Went to high school in Clayton, a 'burb of St. Louis. A rich, well to do, very white(No joke, we bussed in about a dozen black kids, we had been all white til then! ) school system. I wasn't rich, all the other kids (it seemed) had new Camaros and Firebirds, even BMW's back when that was a big deal for a kid to drive(early 80's) I didn't even have a car...poor me! Didn't fit in to the rich, preppy clicks, or the rich slumming kids hanging out in the smoking lounge. Had a couple of good friends, that was about it. For some reason, the rich girls weren't interested in the non-rich kids, like in Valley Girl! My friends all had drug problems early, (One quit coke when his nose wouldn't stop bleeding, he was 15!) So, I figured out pretty early drugs were not for me. Hated the taste of alcohol, so no drinking the blues away. But there was always street racing! Back in the 80's all new cars sucked, and were slow,(Thank God!) so my Grandma's '69 Impala could beat their sorry little Bimmers, and V6 Camaros.(V-8s might make a race of it) I too was the boy who never lived up to his "potential" as teachers said as long as I could remember. School seemed like a complete waste of time, once I learned the basics. I have learned so much more on my own. I am pretty sure I had/have ADD as well....ooh look, a bird! Anyway, I am sure I gave my parents a few added gray hairs. We moved at a bad time for me from St. Louis, to Jacksonville, and I never went back to school except for a few College courses..... Once I was done with school, I felt free! Oh, I didn't listen to jazz, or metal back in the day, Beatles mainly......and I had short hair, no goatee....what a wuss!
  2. Well, until it is, here is the thread in the audio forum... http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...pic=10413&st=0&
  3. Damn! Sad news. From photos I have seen of him, I thought he was older than 77, must have been battling for awhile. Thank you Mr. Davies for all the great, great work, a true labor of love.... If you haven't checked out his web site in the past, it is worth it.... http://www.jazzrescue.com/
  4. Well, air purifiers make a lot of white noise, and they make your air better as well! A friend of mine who worked nights swore he would have killed someone if he hadn't gotten one. I don't know if anything can completely drown out bass though......
  5. You are both the liberal side of Berigan, and the intelligent side of Johnny!

  9. Sad, but a pretty long life! I happen to like the Day, Hudson, Randall films, so sue me! He had a cameo in the Take-off on all the Doris, Rock films, Down with Love...he was fine, the rest of the cast made you appreciate the original films.... Oh, and I just assumed that first marriage was a marriage of convenience,(Light in the loafers! ) since he never said anything about her on the tonight show, just that they had been married forever...then, bam remarries and has 2 kids! And a boy even, that has to be really rare at his age! And everyone is right about Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter!
  10. More DVD release news...saw elsewhere that Columbo which has been available overseas for a while is finally coming to the U.S.! UNIVERSAL IS TURNING ON THE TV FOR DVD Law & Order, Baretta, Dragnet heading to disc. By Scott Hettrick 8/21/2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AUG. 21 | Joining the parade of studios exploiting their libraries of TV series on DVD, Universal Studios Home Video has announced that it is preparing DVDs of Law & Order and Baretta for release in October. The latter has extra heat given the high-profile murder case involving Baretta star Robert Blake. In an indication of the pressure to capitalize on this hot new market that has seen everything from The Jeffersons to The Simpsons come to DVD, Universal took the unusual step Wednesday of announcing eight other series that it is hurriedly preparing for DVD. Those series include science-fiction/science-fantasy series Battlestar Galactica, Quantum Leap, Earth: The Final Conflict and Sliders--which fit into the mold of series such as Star Trek, The X-Files, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer that have performed so well on DVD--and classics such as Dragnet, Magnum P.I. and The Rockford Files. That category also has shown strong sales on DVD with I Love Lucy, M*A*S*H and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Universal is also working on its popular 1970s series Emergency, but there was no mention as yet of Universal series that were popular in syndicated reruns for decades such as Leave It to Beaver, Bewitched or Columbo. A six-disc set of Law & Order: The First Season, starring Michael Moriarty, will offer 22 episodes with an introduction by producer Dick Wolf on Oct. 15 (prebook Sept. 10) at a suggested retail price of $99.98 (minimum advertised price of $79.95). Debuting on Oct. 29 (prebook Sept. 24) are Baretta: Season One ($39.98 SRP, $29.95 MAP), a three-disc set featuring 13 episodes in their entirety and in original broadcast order, and Best of Baretta ($19.98 SRP), including the little-seen series pilot and two "bonus" episodes featuring the music of Sammy Davis Jr. Davis wrote and performed the theme song, "Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow."
  11. You know why I HATE you Sangrey?? Cuz, I just had the same idea about it being a bio of all his cars, had all these swell Ideas, then bam! Rug pulled from under me!
  12. Yeah, see a lot of Oldies.com films everywhere. Interesting titles, but the Pre Basil Rathbone Sherlocks that I grabbed were really poor quality, audio synchronization was way off...how was the quality on this film? EDIT...strangely enough, Oldies.com is the film side of Collectables, which does not deal with crappy source material, actually pays for rights...but then again, the cds are not 5-6 bucks either!
  13. Dammit! I was going to post a link to that sight! No fair!
  14. I have maybe one beer a month...maybe. I don't ever recall a bronx cheer coming from me. I spend at most an hour these days on the board. I know liking jazz from the 20's and 30's that I am a fringe part of a fringe music, so I ain't influential...I am not obese, just big boned! I do think Kerry is a radical, I mean when Ted Kennedy is not the most liberal senator of Mass...and I am white....good going on ya! You are better than tea leaves!

  20. Cicadas return to raise racket for summer By CHARLES SEABROOK The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 05/12/04 They've been underground for 17 years, and they're ready to come out and make some noise. They are the "Brood X" cicadas, billions of root-sucking insects that are emerging from the earth in 15 states, from New York to Illinois to Georgia. James Appleby/Uof Illinois (ENLARGE) EMAIL THIS PRINT THIS MOST POPULAR Soon, hordes of male cicadas will be emitting their droning mating call, drowning out the loudest lawn mower. In Georgia, the din will be confined mostly to the northernmost counties, said University of Georgia entomologist Nancy Hinkle. "I don't expect Brood X to be present south of Lumpkin County," she noted. But the noisy insects with prominent red eyes are expected to be abundant. Though generally harmless, their sheer numbers have been known to disrupt outdoor weddings and festivals. Anticipating the cicadas' arrival, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in Ohio decided in March to move its traditional June outdoor graduation inside. On the other hand, many people are looking forward to Brood X. To keep track of cicada goings-on, New Jersey resident Dan Century has set up the Cicada Mania Web site at www.cicadamania.com. In the nation's capital, expected to be the epicenter of the emergence, vendors are selling cicada T-shirts and offering CDs of cicada songs. The "X" in Brood X stands for the Roman numeral 10, under a system for naming 17-year and 13-year cicada broods. Brood X is the largest hatch of so-called "periodical" cicadas in the United States. Periodical cicadas are not to be confused with dog-day cicadas, which appear every summer. Seventeen-year cicadas are generally found farther north, while 13-year cicadas are found mainly in the South. The insects are harmless to humans, Hinkle said. They're not poisonous and are not known to transmit disease. And despite their large numbers, they cause minimal plant damage. Once they mate, the males die and the females lay eggs in the bark of twigs. The eggs hatch in about six weeks and the ant-size nymphs fall to the ground, burrowing into the soil to spend the next 13 to 17 years, depending on their life cycle. "It's amazing how they know to simultaneously surface," Hinkle said. While underground, the nymphs suck on young tree roots. When they emerge, they crawl up tree trunks to molt into winged adults, leaving a brownish shell on the trees. During their six weeks of life, the adults search for mates. The males attract females by buzzing — vibrating two shell-like drums along the sides of the abdomen.
