  1. Wow, the cheapest one on Amazon is $35. I imagine that if you are patient it will turn up for less. I don't really believe that this cd would command that kind of dough.
  2. The lowest note on a standard string bass is 41 Hz, tubas and organs can go lower but if you are listening to jazz you are probably not going to miss much if your speakers produce down to 40 Hz. Most decent speakers will be fine. Bass response can be increased or decreased based on the room and placement in the room as Larry suggested above. If you want to het an education about audio I can heartily recommend Audiokarma.org. They have members in Autralia too. I have not heard B & W speakers myself but comments I have seen elsewhere seem uniformly positive.
  3. You are probably off by 10 years as the cdr wasn't developed until 1988, recorders available in 1992 were around $10,000 according to Wikipedia. I came to cd's around 1987 or 88, I remember how pissed I was that I had to buy cd's by Pullen/Adams to get extra tracks after having bought them on vinyl.
  4. Can I get a download? Thanks.
  5. Crissakes, the guy is 63 years old, give him a break. I've had a chance to hear quite a bit of his stuff live from the 80's, 90's 00's. He sticks to a pretty narrow repertoire but I enjoy his playing.
  6. If memory serves (no sure thing) those Argo's have pretty short playing time, maybe right for a Select.
  7. I hardly ever get out so it was a treat to see the great Sonny Fortune in New London, CT last night. He played at a small venue called the Oasis Room located within the Garde Arts Center. Really happy to say the event was well attended. As a bonus, I sat next to and had a chance to talk with Noah Baerman, who I found out is a working jazz pianist. I am looking forward to checking out his stuff. The same place will have Donny McCaslin November 15th, I am pretty sure I will go.
  8. Another alternative you might consider for buying and selling audio equipment is Audiokarma. Depending on where you live there may be Audiokarma groups that meet periodically, there is in my area and I have had a great time at the get togethers.
  9. You guys are the best. I wish I was more active here, I appreciate the 2012 wishes. Anyone in Philadelphia? I will be bringing my daughter there for college tomorrow and will be there through Saturday night.
  10. George Adams is,for me, one of those guys that if I see he is a sideman on a date, I will pick it up (although I drew the line at the David Sanborn lp which I am sure features no Adams's solos). I am glad I took the time to see him 5 or 6 times including twice at the 1369 Jazz Club in Cambridge, MA with Don Pullen. Dates under his own name tend to be a bit uneven. Highlights for me are God Bless the Child from More Funk on Palcoscenico, Send In The Clowns from Paradise Space Shuttle, and Soft Seas from Life Line. The two lps mentioned above by KH1958, Gentleman's Agreement and Hand to Hand, are both very strong. I'd say Life Line is my favorite Adams/Pullen lp. I like the Live at Montmartre mentioned in the 1st post but most people I have talked about it with feel that Scofield didn't really fit in well. Adams/Pullen are very well documented on many radio broadcasts and audience captures. Adams work with Gil Evans is also reasonably available as are broadcast dates with Mingus. A sleeper to look for is While You Were Out by the Boston band Orange Then Blue which features George Adams extensively. I read somewhere that George Adams and Blood Ulmer both made their recorded debuts on a King lp by Hank Marr (Sounds From The Marr-ketplace). I haven't been able to confirm but I have the record and it sure does sound like Adams.
  11. I threw this on expecting to give it a minute or two before putting in the divest pile. Was actually pleasantly surprised and I will be keeping it.
  12. Hi Thom, can I get a download? Thanks.
  13. I would love to grab this, unfortunately I have two college tuitions due so no new toys for me.
  14. I bought a sealed copy of this lp on Jubilee quite a few years ago, there were bubbles in the pressing (still are, in fact).
  15. My local brick and mortar Newberry's has this box for the 39.99 price.

  17. Some stuff going out to Felser and Bebop. Bright Moments, I will go through what I have and pull those with RRK on the cover. Jim, I know I don't have the issue of Jazz you are looking for. I subscribed just as they went out of business and never got a single issue for the money I sent in, the issues I have I bought at the newsstand
  18. I am spring cleaning and am ready to let go of some stuff. I have: Jazz Magazine Fall 1978 v3, #1 Carmen MacRae on cover Jazz Magazine Spring 1979 v3 #2 Charles Mingus cover Jazz Magazine Fall 1979 v3 #4 Stan Kenton cover, as far as I know that was the last issue. The Jazz Report Fall 1992 v6 #1 Joe Henderson cover IAJRC Journals , v15 #2, v15 #3, v16 # 2, v17 #1, v17 #2, v17 #3, and v17 #4. I also saved most of the Mosaic catalogs from the beginning to about #25. If anybody wants these they are yours for the cost of postage, which at the media rate won't be much. I also have quite a few Down Beats and Living Blues from the 1980's and 1990's which I am trying to figure if they are worth anything, if there are specific issues you might want, let me know as I just spent several hours putting them in chronological order. Thanks.

  21. Someone get Sue Mingus together with Laurie Pepper. Seriously, I would have thought Mingus would be a surer bet than Art Pepper. Am I all wet with that supposition?
  22. Can't buy anything right now but I absolutely love the picture you posted, just beautiful.
  23. Thanks Ken. That's what I wanted to know.
