Seeline has pegged another. Dan, I felt these would be a bit subdued for you but I'm glad you gave it a listen. If I do another BFT in the future I'm thinking all baritone, that might be more in the pocket.

You guys are good. Seeline correctly id'ed disc 1 #5. Both Seeline and Spontooneous have the right idea on the clarinet player on disc 2 #5.Spontooneous has pegged disc 2 #1. Between Hot Ptah, Spontooneous and Seeline we have the pieces making up disc 2 #11. Disc 2 #8 seems to remind people of Dave Douglas but it is not Dave Douglas. Disc 2 #9 correctly id'ed by Seeline and Spontooneous, now who do you think is playing? Seeline, I donwnloaded disc 2 myself yesterday to double check, I get 11 tracks, track 10 is tagged differently, it wasn't in the CDDB database (or whatever database the computer goes to to id tunes) so I didn't alter the mp3 tags on that track. Thanks for participating guys.

You mean Clifford Jordan, of course? I am not getting enough sleep. Yeah, Clifford Jordan.

I wish I had more autographs. I had George Adams sign the back of a picture a friend of mine had taken of a concert Adams/Pullen had given at lunchtime in Providence several years before (he was leading a different group in Boston when I saw him again but still had Cameron Brown on bass). Sometime around 1982-3 I had Clifford Brown sign my copy of "Glass Bead Games". What I really I wish I had would be pictures of me with those two, oh well.

#4 and #7 are as identified by Hot Ptah. Well done. HP has 10 cuts on disc 1, I'm not sure what happened as I thought I had uploaded 11, can any confirm how many cuts they have? On the plus side, its clear from HP's comments which cut is missing, perceptive listener he is.

Well all right then. I agree about #5, its a track that every time I play it, I seem to repeat it right away, can't get enough of it. Regarding #8, yeah I think its pretty easy to mishandle this kind of material, this group, though, is pretty spot on I think. There are no ECM cuts here (not that there'd be anything wrong with that).

Hi Jim, so glad you downloaded the BFT. I hope you enjoyed as much as Hot Ptah. I was starting to get a little worried. So, Hot Ptah, as I haven't done one of these before, should I comment on your comments or send a PM?

The links for downloads are in the signup thread. If anyone wants discs mailed I am happy to do that. I can't see the files at Megaupload so I have no idea if anyone has downloaded yet. If there's a problem, please let me know. Otherwise, lets get to it.

The link to disc 2 is here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VQXSLGJO If anyone wants discs sent please let me know.

The link to disc one is here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G17F3WYB I am mailing out discs today also, and will upload disc two a little later today.

No Theme, no method, no teacher. Just a few things I like, pretty mainstream, a little Latin, a couple of things deserving wider recognition ect. I will have Ptah's in the mail today or tomorrow and the link for you downloaders should be ready by this evening. Anyone else is welcome to download, I don't care if you comment or not in the thread.

Just a note: Tom in RI's Zunes are apparently non-HD. The HDs are a world apart. Go figure, the older Zunes have hard drives and the newer Zune HD's are flash based. I am a late adopter (and cheap). Bebop, you have both, what are the features on the newer models that you like best?
-
BFrank, I started a thread on Zune last summer: I've got two now, an 80 gig and a 120 gig. If you go with the hard drive iterations you should be able to score for around $100 or less. I bought my 120 refurbished on Cowboom for right around $100 and have been very happy with it.

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving! I have just slipped my turkey into the oven, at 14 lbs its more an overgrown chicken. I have also just ripped, sequenced, and burned disc 1 of the December Blind Fold Test. I will have disc two ready before the turkey comes out of the oven. Sorry to be a little tardy with this. If you want actual discs, please send a pm with your name and address. If you want a download I will be posting at Megaupload. Again, send a pm and I will forward the link. Apologies in advance if I have any pieces of music that have been on a recent BFT, I don't think I do.

This set was highlighted on NPR recently.

I saw a band with Anat Cohen, RI resident George Masso on trombone, Howard Alden on guitar, Marshall Wood on bass, and Gary Johnson on drums. The show was free, with a charity asking for donations at the door. The space was a small theater at the Lincoln, RI campus of CCRI. Only Alden and Wood had amplification. I am glad to say that the show had about 100 in attendance. Cohen played clarinet only during the first set and played a couple of songs on soprano during the second set. From the comments made I think only Alden and Cohen had played together before so they stuck to standards, except for a duet rendition of Shrevevport Stomps by Alden and Cohen and a choro piece. George Masso was the surprise for me, he must be in his mid 70's but his playing was energetic and focused. While this group had not played together before they are all pros who easily found a groove and were clearly were enjoying themselves. I spoke to Ms. Cohen briefly between sets, it will come as no surprise that she knows our own White Lightning.

I remember Columbia released some Boris Rose Charlie Parker material way back when (One Night at Birdland). Has any other Rose material seen major label release?

I enjoyed the past season even though my Red Sox couldn't quite get there.I am shocked, shocked I say, that the SF Giants took the series. Congrats to them, pitching rules. And along that line, what do you Ranger fans hear about how seriously they will work to keep Cliff Lee (and keep him out of NY)?

He did a Miles Davis trib disc in 1992 called One For Dewey which I have but haven't listened to in quite awhile. The fact that I didn't get rid of it tells me I heard some merit in it last time I played it (available from 15 Amazon sellers for the no respeect price of .99 or less, both used and new). He also participated in some Frank Zappa sessions in the 1970's

Is Goldwave free? I paid for my copy, serves as a frontend for the LAME encoder.

I agree with Sidewinder, the Mingus piece Passions of a Man is great Halloween music, also the 1st minute or so of George Russell's recording of Round Midnight with Eric Dolphy. I had those two things on a loop a few years ago to great effect.
