  1. The Pittsburgh Steelers won Superbowl XL, now I think the Saints will win Superbowl XLIV.
  2. Love Moose and Squirrel. Guitarist Clay Moore covered the Rocky and Bullwinkle theme on his 1998 release Meeting Standards.
  3. Christiern, I think I am guilty as charged, although I did buy my son an Ipod Classic for Christmas. I am hoping to possibly get a Zune for (hopefully significantly) less money.
  4. I think some people favor a player from Cowon which is supposed to have good sound and also supports FLAC along with many video codecs. Cons for the Cowon include the user interface and also some reviewers find the unit itself a little flimsy. I personally have never seen on except online. A lot of reviews name the mp3 players from Sony as best sounding but I am put off buy the price and they only have flash memory, the largest player from Sony here in the US market is, I think, 32 gig. From what I have read, Microsoft updates firmware for existing Zunes every time they issue an new Zune so I thought I might pick up a deal on an 80 gig Zune. I am still using mini disc (stop that snickering) so you can see I don't rush into anything.
  5. I am considering getting a Zune mp3 player, can anyone share their experiences positive or negative? Thanks.
  6. Just found this today. Apologies if this has been mentioned previously. http://www.blogcatalog.com/blog/casa-valdez-jazz
  7. I just Sonny Barbato, Crackerjack, in today's mail. Sonny is one hell of an accordion player. Seriously.
  8. Its true the article doesn't specify the equipment used although they do characterize it as decent in several places. The only piece of equipment I recognize is the cd player in the last picture, which is an HHB Burnit (which I recognize only because I have one). I think Claude's observation is spot on that the test would carry more weight if people had been able to select music with which they were already familiar.
  9. I came across this on another forum. The authors' conclusions about high resolution recordings are pretty interesting. http://drewdaniels.com/audible.pdf
  10. If you google tunebite it will come right up.
  11. I am now seeing deleted CMG titles in Staples stores in my area, $8.99, I know I will see them cheaper at Newberry's, only a matter of time.
  12. If you wanted to include someone a little younger, try Ryan Cohan, I think his Here and Now release is aces.

    Bruce Katz

You will find Bruce Katz on several Ronnie Earl cd's, I think the best one he is on is Grateful Heart which also has Fathead Newman on 5-6 tracks. His solo dates have been consistently good although I have not heard his latest. He also has a long relationship with Duke Robillard. I was surprised to see he has been on the last two Joe Louis Walker cd's which I have not heard. He also has a project with Joel Frahm playing all Aretha Franklin songs, I have heard that is a bit light weight. Katz also supplies able support on 3 cd's on Audioquest by Joe Beard which are among my favorite blues cd's.
  14. I usually season with salt, pepper, and worcestershire sauce in the burger before grilling. I also find any burger leaner than 85% is too dry. Lately I have been seasoning with salt, pepper and a little cayenne pepper and then using habernero jack cheese on top, not as hot as it sounds but really delicious. Lastly, I like to use a slice of American cheese topped with a little cheddar (when not using habernero jack) makes a visually appealing burger. I have only recently discovered Siracha sauce (great on veggie wraps and chicken veggie wraps or on eggs), haven't tried it on a burger yet, only a matter of time.
  15. I am on occasional vinyl buyer. Generally I am picking up something on impulse (and maybe on Impulse!) and I am lucky to have a shop near me that has a good selection in good shape. Between vinyl and cd purchases and downloads of ROIO things I really can't keep up with everything that I have gathered.
  16. I am not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread but I seem to remember that Pablo's were priced a dollar more than most releases during the 70's (6.98 list compared to 5.98 for most everything else).
  17. Hey Flurin, if you get a chance, check out Friedlander's Broken Arm Trio release. It swings.
  18. Stanley Cowell, Illusion Suite.
  19. Roy Haynes, People, King reissue of a Pacific Jazz date with Frank Strozier. The price tag is still on it, 7.99 in 1991.
  20. I wouldn't try to convince anyone that the Carnegie Hall jam (Mingus at Carnegie Hall on Atlantic) mentioned by Jim Sangrey a few posts back belongs in the top 5 Mingus sessions, but it is the Mingus disc I have listened to the most through the years. I just can't help reaching for this to hear George Adams and Roland Kirk together. After that its probably the Candids I have reached for next.
  21. If you get a chance check out Sonny Barbato on George Schuller's take on Filles de Kilamanjaro from Schuller's Playscape recording, Round 'Bout Now. You can also look for Youtube entries for Cory Pesaturo.
  22. While I am sure you can recite many instances of jazz accordion recordings I think its not quite accurate to say there has been "plenty", it would have to be some small fraction of 1% of all jazz recordings that feature accordion.
  23. From today's Boston Globe. He has two cd's with George Garzone on board. Have not heard them.....yet. http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/20..._accordion_hip/
  24. I agree, this is an excellent price. I would buy if I didn't already have it.
  25. I missed lps in supermarkets by just a few years. I do have a couple or three records with the sticker on the shrink wrap at 88 cents. I bought the majority of the above mentioned lps at a department store at, I think, $1.97 or thereabouts.
