Like Dan I am using my turntable mostly when digitizing an lp. Otherwise, since Father's Day I have been using an mp3 player with cassette adapter in my car which is where I do most of my listening.

Oh my God, its the Happy Birthday, Tom memorial thread! Thanks one and all. Hey Sangrey, after so much anticipation I finally got a chance to hear some Iapetus yesterday, and it hit me. And I had my first Lambic Framboise last night, yummy! Oh, and AARP is sending me literature too. Oh happy day.

Hey Chris, I enjoyed the 1st Jordan song, looking forward to the next.

I got a copy of this when it was first issued. Some of the BeeHive lps had inserts with glossy photos which was neat and unexpected. I really wish I had gotten a BeeHive t-shirt way back when, even though there is no chance it would still fit.

Hi Claude, yes I saw the same info at CliffordJordan.com. So do I understand that this may never have been issued, let alone reissued?
-
Has this date on Survival Records ever been reissued? Anyone here ever hear it?
-
Ken, my storage is more like yours (only much smaller). The thing that really caught my eye is that the shelves fold into a closet.

Check the picture here: http://www.colgatealumni.org/s/801/scene_inside_2col.aspx?sid=801&gid=1&pgid=2787 I am so jealous. The printed version had a brief article about longtime Colgate prof Dr. Blackmore who left his lp collection to the University. 17,000 pieces. I had a ball visiting his house so many years ago.

I was sad to see this. Been listening to a couple Little Feat '70's broadcasts in tribute today. Vanilla grits, yeah.

Happy belated birthday, Lon.

There is an impressive discography at the George Coleman website: http://www.georgecoleman.com/discography_frame_index.html He's also someone who has been pretty available on roio recordings from the last 35 years or so. Count me as another who actually prefers Miles w/Coleman to Miles w/Shorter. Another landmark date George was on is Maiden Voyage. JSangry, how are those Elvin Jones records on Honeydew?

I came across this link after a google search for 1369 Jazz Club: http://www.meredithwells.com/B_BlackandWhite/JazzCals.htm I saw a couple of shows at the 1369. I think its fascinating to see who was coming to what was otherwise a little neighborhood bar.

Can I sign up for 2011?

Just picked a mint copy of Roland Hanna, New York Jazz Quartet in Chicago, Beehive 7013 for $4.00. Mine didn't have any inserts. Anybody know if this originally came with any inserts?

Do you find, on the whole, any issues with the percussion in this group? Based on the live album "On Your Feet" and the song Buck's Boogie, I would say the rhythm section was quite adept. It's basically just rock n roll cranked up and played with tongue in cheek bravado. So you don't a paucity of a particular percussive implement of a bovine nature?

Regarding Ron Holloway, I clipped this from his website, ...a member of Susan Tedeschi's Band but still finds time to appear as a frequent special guest of the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes & Gov't Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, Taj Mahal, and Little Feat. Most recently Ron performed with Peter Frampton, Bruce Hornsby, Bernie Worrell and Col. Bruce Hampton at the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam !!! Seems he has found a niche there.

Esquire's All American Hot Jazz, RCA LPV-544, picked just yesterday at Stereo Jack's for 2.99, minty fresh.
-
Well, some of the Newport 1958 includes Pee Wee Russell on clarinet, which makes that unique.
-
Does the mandolin player double on something else? Really enjoyed the clip.

is it possible to repair scratches in vinyl?
Tom in RI replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Many years ago (maybe around 1979-80) I saw a guy repair a damaged groove on an lp with a needle and lamp like this one: http://www.nationaljewelerssupplies.com/lamps/ETLMP120.html Requires a steady hand, I know couldn't do it. I use Goldwave for removing pops an ticks on the computer, have been very happy with it and it also serves as a frontend for LAME. I am sure its not as functional as CEDAR but it also cost me, I think, $35. -
$20 shipped to US address, actual cost for overseas. Features Bobby Watson, Terell Stafford, Orrin Evans and John Benitez.

I am pretty sure Microsoft doesn't intend for people to change their batteries but you can find video demos on Youtube showing how to do it in less than 4 minutes.
-
BFrank, if you get the Cowon, let us know how you like it. I got a Zune 120 for Father's Day (at least, my kids said they had ordered it). My experience with the Zune 80 have been positive. The only real gripe I have is that the battery is not easily changed. I guess Microsoft hopes people will just buy a new player when the battery goes, but there are places that will replace the battery for a reasonable fee.
