  1. Can I sign up for 2011?
  2. Just picked a mint copy of Roland Hanna, New York Jazz Quartet in Chicago, Beehive 7013 for $4.00. Mine didn't have any inserts. Anybody know if this originally came with any inserts?
  3. Do you find, on the whole, any issues with the percussion in this group? Based on the live album "On Your Feet" and the song Buck's Boogie, I would say the rhythm section was quite adept. It's basically just rock n roll cranked up and played with tongue in cheek bravado. So you don't a paucity of a particular percussive implement of a bovine nature?
  4. Do you find, on the whole, any issues with the percussion in this group?
  5. Regarding Ron Holloway, I clipped this from his website, ...a member of Susan Tedeschi's Band but still finds time to appear as a frequent special guest of the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes & Gov't Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, Taj Mahal, and Little Feat. Most recently Ron performed with Peter Frampton, Bruce Hornsby, Bernie Worrell and Col. Bruce Hampton at the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam !!! Seems he has found a niche there.
  6. Esquire's All American Hot Jazz, RCA LPV-544, picked just yesterday at Stereo Jack's for 2.99, minty fresh.
  7. Well, some of the Newport 1958 includes Pee Wee Russell on clarinet, which makes that unique.
  8. Does the mandolin player double on something else? Really enjoyed the clip.
  9. Many years ago (maybe around 1979-80) I saw a guy repair a damaged groove on an lp with a needle and lamp like this one: http://www.nationaljewelerssupplies.com/lamps/ETLMP120.html Requires a steady hand, I know couldn't do it. I use Goldwave for removing pops an ticks on the computer, have been very happy with it and it also serves as a frontend for LAME. I am sure its not as functional as CEDAR but it also cost me, I think, $35.
  10. $20 shipped to US address, actual cost for overseas. Features Bobby Watson, Terell Stafford, Orrin Evans and John Benitez.
  11. I am pretty sure Microsoft doesn't intend for people to change their batteries but you can find video demos on Youtube showing how to do it in less than 4 minutes.
  12. BFrank, if you get the Cowon, let us know how you like it. I got a Zune 120 for Father's Day (at least, my kids said they had ordered it). My experience with the Zune 80 have been positive. The only real gripe I have is that the battery is not easily changed. I guess Microsoft hopes people will just buy a new player when the battery goes, but there are places that will replace the battery for a reasonable fee.
  13. Gone, thanks.
  14. CD on Fresh Sounds, $10 including shipping to US address. International shipped at cost. Thanks for looking.
  15. Thanks for the responses, I had forgotten about the material at James Darcy Argue's site, which is free. I see that Bobby Previte also offers FLAC downloads, same price as mp3. I've finally come around to not automatically dismissing mp3, although I still prefer lossless or at least a high bit rate. I wish more more musicians would post their stuff.
  16. I have downloaded shows from David Binney's website, Chris Tarry's website, and Pete Robbins website. Each of these guys have gigs available for $4-$6 for mp3's of a nights work. I know Steve Coleman has (or at least has had) a lot available at his site. Can anyone recommend or otherwise direct me to other artist sites where recordings of gigs are available? Thanks.
  17. I picked up the big box from someone on this board several years ago (I can't remember who). I seem to remember that the Chet Baker cd (#108) had been withdrawn as it wasn't in the box when I got it but I had no problem finding a copy on Amazon for cheap. I still haven't worked my way through the whole thing
  18. Thanks Brownie, well I didn't expect hifi, hoping for, say, comparable to Boris Rose recordings from the '50s'.
  19. How's the sound on those Continental Restaurant sides?
  20. Well, I now have a Zune 80 gig picked up from Craigslist a couple of weeks ago. I've managed to get about 16 gigs onto it so far, I am ripping at 256. On the one hand, it is borderline shocking how little documentation comes with this thing. On the other hand, it has been reasonably easy to figure out (with peeks at several Zune forums). I like it enough so far that if I manage to fill this up I will likely seek out one of the 120 gig models still around at a steep discount from their "brand new" price. One thing that has been good is I am ripping box sets that I am often too lazy to grab off the shelf.
  21. The Duke Ellington Centennial box, listening to 4 discs of 1940-1942 Duke in chronological order.
  22. Check out Duke Levine (there are some videos on youtube).
  23. Don Byas playing I Remember Clifford from the Americans in Europe lp. Pretty much has been for most of the last 30 years or so.
  24. First pressing of Kismet by the Mastersounds on World Pacific Jazz.
  25. Couldn't they have worked in a clip of Brian from Family Guy singing that Rick Astley song?
