Mosaic Sets but Especially Tina Brooks
Tom in RI replied to Dan Gould's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I’ve been bitten by the Jazz bug since the early 70’s. When Mosaic first came out I pre-ordered Mosaic 101. I don’t have it any more but I remember getting a letter from Mosaic noting a delay in the release and an offer for refund, which I declined. I mention that only to establish I was on the Mosaic bus early. As with Rooster above, I was not necessarily enamored of organ dates then the way I am now so I probably didn’t have Brooks with JOS at the time. For me, the decision to order the Tina Brooks set was solely based on the Mosaic announcement through their newsletter. I still have it, I hope to pick up XRCD copies of at least some of the issues. -

Thanks Chuck, I want that, a little pricey on Discogs. -

Are the Benny Morton track available elsewhere? I’ve got one track on a Blue Note reissue, Swing Hi, Swing Lo. Nevermind, I see I need to find the Chronogical Classic. -
3/20 LAST CALL HUGE Jazz CD list Loads of cheap titles

Pm sent on Chuck Wayne and Al Smith. -
I’ve been happy with this player, https://www.soundandvision.com/discplayers/59 Yes it’s quite old, won’t play cdr’s, and loads slower than any other disc player I’ve owned. But I think it sounds great and I haven’t had any issues with it. I bought it used for $150 a few years ago. I’d love to move up to the Sony model Lon mentioned but they are quite a bit more. There are several for sale under $300 right now on eBay according to hifishark.

Your Favorite Jazz Records of the 1980s?
Tom in RI replied to HutchFan's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I’ve just scanned through all 9 pages, I think I saw two from Adams/Pullen. I’d say their records probably had the biggest influence on my listening then. Personal favorite is Life Line on Timeless. Also, as it was the first leader date I bought by him I’d mention Kenny Barron, Live at Fat Tuesdays which also the first I’d heard John Stubblefield. -
In the ‘80’s I used to hit record stores in Boston a lot. There was one in Kenmore Square that labeled the Jarrett section “Jesus Jarrett”, that always gave me a chuckle.

New to the world of Online Vinyl Shopping
Tom in RI replied to BlueSpirits's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
I’ve sold a fair number of used records at Audiokarma, they have a feedback area where everyone can comment on the transaction, which I think really helps. I also offered to accept returns and had only one out of 60-70 transactions. I would not be comfortable buying online personally but I’ve got more than enough music to keep me occupied. Fortunately I’ve got a really good used shop in Providence, Round Again Records, that won’t put out records in bad shape. -

Package arrived today, packed as if a drop test was expected. The blemish Kevin mentioned would escape notice for the great majority of us. Thanks. -

A masterful improviser laid low by health issues since the 1990’s.

In the previous thread noted I mentioned Glen Wilson’s Trombari, The Devil’s Hopyard. There’s a review here: http://www.pointofdeparture.org/PoD39/PoD39MoreMoments7.html?fbclid=IwAR0u4AHdUUiD5Ww5Qjj-pMYIV7VLmZ6xo7BJDDH9rASEStLGQ5r2DI7Vr64 Another favorite with strings is Alan Ferber’s Nonet with Strings, Chamber Songs. https://www.alanferber.com/portfolio/alan-ferber-nonet-strings-chamber-songs/ I think both of these releases are really high quality and deserving of a wider audience.

Huh, no break for multiple items on bandcamp shipping?
-
Yes, I am aware, at least 2-3 on Bandcamp are also available as cd’s (much prefer physical product) which I’ll probably order today, thanks for tip about artist Friday. For others I’d rather work a trade than pay what Amazon has’em listed for.

I like his playing on Pete (Laroca) Sims Blue Note release, Swingtime.

Looking for cd’s by Dale Fielder. Currently I have only, Plays the Music of Pepper Adams. Ideally would like to trade (I have a pile of dupes etc) but would also buy if the price is right.

I’m told it’s a one time drop, Other Half beers are available in some RI package stores (what we call a liquor store in these parts). Enjoying a Double Mosaic Daydream. -
