It says is on the tray insert - the print is is bit hard to read, but It clearly says it. Do you have a copy? No, I don't, I was just being curious. Could you post a scan of the insert? Thanks. You don't trust me? Sorry I do not have a scanner... and am technologically challenged. Sheesh man, relax, of course I trust you, why shouldn't I? As I said I was just being (very) curious, that's all. I am quite relaxed. Your request for a scan seemed to indicate a certain disbelief or that's how it came across to me. Can anyone else who is more technologically capable and owns this cd help us out here?

I have just listened to my second purchase from these guys - it's called "The Essential T-Bone Walker". My first Rockbeat purchase was BB King "Best of the Kent and RPM" sides. Ok, these are compilations so they would not satisfy the completist, but what I marvel at is the sound quality - for recordings that were made in the 40s and 50s - these sound like they were made last week. I note that Michael Cuscuna is involved.

I just saw this one in Manhattan last weekend. It is a must see!!! Even if you are not a Cream fan (I am) you get to see actual film clips of his drum-offs in London with Art Blakey and Elvin Jones. Also his participation in the African music scene with Fela Kuti is documented. On top of everything else, the movie is hilarious because Baker is such a character. But at the end of the film, it is hard not to be convinced he was the greatest rock drummer of all time.

The Monterrey sides are great performances... the sound is so so. The My Favorite Quintet stuff is great with great sound and yes McPherson really shines on these sides... but everyone is just soo good.

Lon, I never had the Amsterdam material before, so I have no point of reference. It is just more lo-fi than I expected. The music is glorious.... and that makes it all the harder to think it could have been better recorded.... but maybe that's just me. Town Hall - I did a brief comparison nothing extensive.

Studio Recordings of Miles Davis 1965-68 - price reduced to $11 My Cross to Bear - price reduced to $40 (take em both - $49) price includes delivery to a US address

I was listening to the Dutch concert last night and while the performance is great the sound is not as good as the sound on the Town Hall concert
-
I got my set and so far have only listened to the Town Hall material. The sound on the Mosaic seems not much different from the OJC single Cd from this concert, but the extra material on the Mosaic set is very good.

I am strongly considered this box set, but have some questions. First, I have a lot of cds that document this band including: The Town Hall Concert (OJC) which is part of this set,The Great Concert of Charles Mingus, Cornell 1964, a France's Concert import cd entitled "Meditations". While I realize that only the Town Hall Concert would be what I already own, I am wondering if you know whether the other tracks from this concert are on the same high level as the two tracks on Town Hall Concert (OJC) and whether the other concerts are on par with the cds I have mentioned above. The other issue being particuarly with respect to the Town Hall concert as to whether the sound is improved (it's not bad on the OJC and every instrument is clearly heard, it is just that the sound is sort of low fi or "boxy" if that is the right word.)

The more I listen, the more I like it.

I am surprised there is not more discussion of Sleeper even on this thread which seems to be more about other albums. Anyway, I finally picked this up. I should premise my comments on Sleeper by saying that I was a fan of the so called Jarrett European Quartet back in the day and purchased and enjoyed both the Belonging and My Song albums. Having listened to Sleeper my initial reaction was not so positive. While the musicianship is top notch and so is the soloing, the melody of Personal Mountains I found uninvolving. I also found the melodies on the ballads a bit too lush and some of the other tunes exhibiting borderline pop sensibilities - all of the things that the critics of this band said in the 70s but I did not agree with. I wondered upon listening to Sleeper if the moment had passed for me and this band. However, after listening a bit more, it is beginning to pull me in and I am not decided yet about it.

All kidding aside, I wouldn't swear to it that the mastering of this cd has changed from previous issues. But perhaps one thing that might be of consideration is that the live portion of this box has two tracks that were on the original LP but left of all previous cd issues because they would not fit on a single cd - by the way the tracks left off were solo performances one by Corea and another by Burton.
