  1. you talkin' about that interview she gave that appeared on the Ken Burns Jazz series? Yeah what was she smoking before she said that?
  2. Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Could be Lon. I would like to get the answer. I have looked at the liner notes to the metal spine box and it says merely "SBM", whereas the cover of the long box says 24 bit. I want to know if they are in fact different remasterings.
  4. The metal spine box says sound is SBM, the long box says 24 bit. Can anyone confirm if there are indeed differences and which sounds better? Anyone compared them to Japanese DSD 9000 series?
  5. Just got this yesterday and aside from the rather goofy introduction about Swinging London in the 60s (I would have put this in the extras, but I guess the young people need context) and some poor camera work, it's a decent concert film. I have to say from the start I have been a long time big fan of Blind Faith. On the DVD,the sound and pictures are fine (you can even see that some of these superstars don't clean their fingernails), maybe a bit too much filming of the crowd. The band is fine with Little Stevie Winwood in fine voice and on Fender Rhodes piano and Hammond B3, Clapton playing a Tele with a Strat neck, Rich Grech on bass that has no bridge - just a piece of foam he shoved in there and Ginger - well being Ginger and that's great. Mick and Donovan in the audience. They do a good job on the Blind Faith tunes and there is an interesting version of Under My Thumb which I loved the way Winwood changed the melody and perhaps harmony, but it lacked a bit of energy- maybe needed more practice or maybe seeing Mick in the audience was intimidating. Overall, a must for Blind Faith fans like me. Sigh...........Gone are the days!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I saw the Paul Motian Trio at the Village Vanguard on September 15. Great show!!
  7. Wish I could have joined you guys... I think I will go next weekend. Let me know if you go again.
  8. I prefer the RVG to to OJC K2 on this release.
  9. Ernie Krivda, tenor saxophonist, Cleveland, OH
  10. I saw on the Village Vanguard website that I was wrong. Friday and Saturday night shows are $5.00 more expensive ($35.000) than Thursdays or other weekdays ($30.00). That price includes a $10.00 drink minimum. However the website does indicate that some "special" shows may be priced higher and my impression from the Times, but it is confusing, is that the PMT is $35 plus $10 for all shows.
  11. which night are you thinking of going 7/4?
  12. No one has mentioned his Newport Jazz Festival book - that is just a great book!!!
  13. to my knowledge there is no difference in price between Thursday or Friday night at the Village Vanguard. The Times notice seems to support that too.
  14. Guy I just saw the price tag on this set in yesterday's Times- $35 plus a $10 minimum. OUCH!!! any interest in Friday's sets? I have to get up early on Friday so Thursday may be prohibitive.
  15. Last night I saw Charlie Haden and Quartet West at the Blue Note in Manhattan - it was in honor of the band's 20th anniversary. I am not a huge fan of the Blue Note, but the sound in the club is great. I just got a bar seat and even that was $20. The band however, was in fine form and I thought they put on a great show, unfortunately no Larance Marable though, but Rodney Green filled in nicely. They played lots of Quartet West tunes and played a Parker tune, and Ornette's "Lonely Woman"
  16. I would vote for Mingus In Wonderland. Everybody seems to like East Coasting.
  17. I want to go too. Let me know when you guys are going!
  18. Have a great one, Lon!
  19. sorry for my earlier response, the short answer to your question is yes, but that was true of previous incarnations of this material. That probably means they didn't go back to the original sources. Chuck, I guess you did not see my post #37 in this thread?
  20. sorry for my earlier response, the short answer to your question is yes, but that was true of previous incarnations of this material.
  21. Isn't it more important to discuss Shawn's girlfriend or whether Stitt is in hell?
  22. I know that in the past there has been a Sunday concert, but often it has different groups. Like Valerie B, don't see any reference to the Sunday concert here. Help me out.
  23. I think the high prices at a lot of the NYC clubs are so prohibitive, with the cover charge and drinks it is hard to get through a set without dropping close to $50/person.
  24. Looking forward to your comments Lon. While this one is also remastered by Joe Tarantino who did such a great job on the Bill Evans Village Vanguard sessions, the liner notes say that these sessions predated the use of magnetic tape and so were recorded on to disc and that none of those discs survived, so these were made from "subsequent tape transfers" and so alas while there is some improvement over previous versions I have owned, this ain't audiophile stuff. Best regards, S
  25. I can assure you that YOU are going to hell, for messing up this thread on Stitt's PRESTIGE box, so there!
