  1. I'll get E.K.E.'s Blues into my listening queue today. Have a great one!
  2. Say hey.
  3. I hope you have a GREAT birthday!
  4. Have a great one, Randy!
  5. By contrast... I went to see Sonny Stitt at the Keystone Korner. Backstage, before the show, he was visibly weak, taking supplemental oxygen (other unhappy medical details omitted). I thought "If he even makes it on stage, he'll be so tired..." He got on stage and he was SONNY EFFIN' STITT! With Richie Cole and John Handy around (not to mention Bobby Hutcherson, Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins...), perhaps it shouldn't have been a surprise. Years later, 32Jazz put out recordings "Just in Case You Forgot How Bad He Really Was". This was September 1981; nine months later, Sonny passed.
  6. I hope it's a great one!
  7. There still seem to be some discounted Black Saint/Soul Note boxes at ImportCDs. I don't know if prices are up, down, same. I mention ImportCDs and BS/SN again only because they have a coupon good for 10% off through June 30th - TAKE10. I haven't tried shopping/buying. Some of the newer issues seem to still be "not on sale" (e.g. Blackwell)
  8. Wishing you a GREAT one!
  9. Berkeley location, June 15-30, 50% off all used jazz CDs under $10.
  10. Years ago - before home digital - I sold high-end audio (including Goldmund). I do understand how it can be good for a laugh. But for many, it's a real and serious thing. I'm not defending anyone here. Just recognizing them.
  11. Sad. Thankful. Sad. Thankful. RIP
  12. Belated Happy Birthday!
  13. "Great personality" or any other such phrase designed to distract the listener from what he or she should be hearing. Or asking. See, for example, automobile advertising.
  14. I hope it's great one, Scott.
  15. Just tuned in to Out to Lunch, Monday edition with Schaap. Got a small earful of grievances at the show's inception and recap on retirement decision. Listening now, I'm motivated to make an online pledge whether in anticipation of the future or in homage to the past. I'm seldom geographically positioned to listen, but it's still one of the best stations in the US. Or anywhere, IMO.
  16. I don't remember any on Xanadu (Catalyst and Bethlehem?) But check out Most on tenor. I got him to promise to bring the tenor to play at my wedding. Sadly, that gig never happened.
  17. Nice to have any Xanadus back in legitimate issue. I'm with the group that thinks highly of Heavy Love. I've got four of the other five and about eighty Xanadus in total. I could easily pick ten that I'd preferred to see reissued, but, happy to have any. 102 Powell, Bud Bud In Paris 104 Chambers, Paul/Hampton Hawes East/West Controversy, The 108 Pepper, Art Early Show, The 117 Pepper, Art Late Show, The 126 Monterose, J.R. Straight Ahead 136 Cohn, Al & Dexter Gordon True Blue 142 Coker, Dolo California Hard 146 Gray, Wardell Live In Hollywood 161 Hawes, Hampton Memorial Album 209 Raney, Jimmy & Sonny Clark Together Oh, and International Jam Sessions and Bebop Revisited.
  18. Anyone remember Lirpa Labs (Audio Magazine)?
  19. The "Lamborghini" is almost redundant.
  20. Wishing you a GREAT one!
  21. Do you ever wish they could reissue your 27th birthday and the year that followed? I do. But I'll take whetever I can get. I hope it's a great one, Chuck.
  22. Thank you, Aaron. And welcome. I hope you'll stick around. This is a good place.
  23. Belated best wishes!
